Why is he so low on draft boards. He was SEC player if the year and is putting up goods stats with good percentages. I understand that he is a senior but look what teams missed out on with guys like Wesley Matthews. Why is Grayson Allen projected way higher? I haven’t heard anyone talk about him. I was high on him as a prospect as a freshman but it took him a few years to put it all together.

Hopefully that will change after the combine and individual workouts. I like both him and Dozier from that team.

Thornwell might get drafted in the second round MAYBE. Dozier will have to return to school, his shooting % are horrific…

A lot of the time senior guards who put up big numbers often get passed by in the league because of lack of athleticism and being primarily ball dominant scorers that don’t translate to being role players well. But Thornwell doesn’t fit that mold. He is a ravenous defender who will get his minutes busting his ass on D. He’s a bit undersized and not the greatest of athletes, but he is a well built young man who will only get stronger once he hits an NBA strength and conditioning program. He will be able to defend 2s and switch on to 2s and 3s after a season or two and adjusting to pace. He can create for teammates and shoot a spot up jumper well.

This guy looks like a prototypical guy you would want on your team in the pace and space, switch everything on D league of today, I think this guy ends up being a steal in the second round as a super role player.

He is just doesn’t fit to modern basketball as a scoring sg because of his very unathletic body and also undersized, he’s kinda like Marcus Thornton…

Similar things were said about Malcolm Brogdon and he’s currently the best rookie from this draft class.  Although Brogdon was helped by his ability to play both guard positions, I would bet on Thornwell to be able to play a role on a team wherever he is drafted or even if undrafted

Not by me, I was very high on brogdon and even posted about him being overlook draymond style before last year draft… Brogdon is different player, much more all around and two way player, high iq and feel… Thornwell is much more one dimensional scoring guard that for the first time in 4 year shot Not in the 30’fg%

He’s literally nothing like Marcus Thornton. How can you watch Thornwell and arrive at Marcus Thornton as a comp?

He’s more like a PJ Tucker/Dahntay Jones type and I think he’ll carve out a solid career as a swingman who defends, scores off cuts/rebounds/kickouts and does the little things extremely well.

I didn’t think a 6’5 SG was small these days in the NBA. Wesley Matthews has been effective offensively and defensively without being highly athletic and is the same size as Thornwell.

Ive watched alot of South Carolina games this year. Ive been a huge Gamecock fan since Frank Martin took over and absolutely believe Thornwell deserves a 2nd round pick. But I also understand why he is be overlooked.

Should model his game off of Bonzi Wells. Projects as a SG but is really more of a power gaurd and the league is sort of going away from that. Very strong and physical. Not very explosive although I think people are starting to treat players with average athletisism a bit unfairly. Its not like he is a terrible athlete.

Has good percentages shooting but is a very streaky shooter. At South Carolina he is aloud to warm up and shoot out of a slump but in the NBA he will be expected to be more consistent and wont be aloud to miss his first 3 shots then round out his averages throughout the game. Also has an offense that has been geared to fit his style of play and in the NBA he will need to adjust and play off of other players.

Lives off of the free throw line at the college level but kind of plays bully ball as a senior. He doesnt get to the line the way Derozan or Butler does using euro steps, pump fakes and playing above the rim. More of the type to force his will on the opposition using his strength to fight through contact. When projected him at the NBA level he isnt a very good ball handler, and he isnt very crafty. When matched up against bigger, stronger, more athletic defenders he could struggle to get to the line.

With that being said I love his heart and desire. Great leader and absolute dog. Gets after it on the defensive end and gets your team extra possessions on the offensive glass. Teams get 3 extra roster spots next season and the G-League is now becoming a very important part of teams development. I would love to have this guy lead my minor league team at the very least.
