Let’s take a look at who Shurna is going to be fighting in training camp.
Chris Copeland: A 6’8" 28 year-old combo forward from Colorado who’s bounced all around Europe and the D-League. Athletic with a good outside shot. The big question is whether he’ll be able to guard people in the NBA. This isn’t Belgium. Scouting reports say he isn’t a good defender, more of an offense guy.
Dan Gadzuric: A 6’11" 34 year-old center from UCLA who played in the D-League. He’s a long backup center who uses his length to alter shots around the rim. Mostly a hustle guy, not much offensive game there. Used to have quick feet, but he’s 34 now, so I question how he’ll keep that up.
Chris Smith: A 6’2" 24 year-old combo guard from Louisville. Signed mostly in part because his brother JR took less money to get him a spot, but IMO, there’s some potential there. Good 2/1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Also shot nearly 40% from behind the arc in his last season at Louisville. A low mistake player.
James White: A 6’7" 24 year-old swingman from Cincinatti who last played in Italy. Athletic with good foot speed and first dribble to get by defenders. Good defender who could guard nba 3’s. Improved midrange and rebounding. Known to have a bit of an attitude problem at times.
Any chance of Shurna beating any of these guys out?
