Shot blocking prospects
It seems as if shot blocking prospects are more of the prizes ever since Tyson Chandler got recognized as the guy that made the difference in the Mavs and why they went to the finals.
With Anthony Davis and Nerlens Noels getting much love from recruites, both being classified as top 2 guys in there class I have no problem with but a little questionable about.
Both guys are being looked at as clones of Marcus Camby but why get another Marcus Camby ? I understand the dude is a crazy shot blocker but he still never made a All NBA team or even an all star game.He also led the league with 3.7 blocks per game in his second year which Davis and Noels probably wont do.
BUT seriously these guys are being consider as future 1 picks of the NBA with both potential being Marcus Camby ,Crazy shot blockers and mainly dunkers ...Would you take a guy thats suppose to be the next Marcus Camby a guy that never made a all star game with the 1st pick??
Im not saying Im hating on them or anything .I do love both upsides of these guys but questioning if they are worth the 1st pick of the draft.Another guy like them is Deandre Jordan ,he is killer at blocking shots but basically only scores on dunks and doesnt look like he is improving that much offense....
the thing with bigs is how valuable they are because of scarcity...
Bigs like Camby aren't easy to find that's why Camby has been in the league 15 years and is still in All Star consideration. You know what you are going to get with them at the very least a guy who protects the rim which most teams don't have.
The only reason Camby hasn't made an All Star game is because he's had health issues and was always about 2 points shy. If Camby could just averaged a few more points he's a surefire All Star. So the hope with Davis and Noels is that they become that Camby who can average a few more points tho. But if they just give you 10 rebounds and 3 blocks a game you're going to be content with that too.
I don't know why I keep reading about how "mediocre" Marcus Camby's career is. If you were guaranteed a player was gonna be the next Marcus Camby you take him in the top 3 in a heart beat. A 15-20 year career, 10+ rebounding and 3+ block machine who did it consistently for about 15 years, that's not as common as you guys seem to think. Greg Oden was drafted #1 with hopes he could do that. You seem to think if you take a player in the top 2 they HAVE to be the next Michael Jordan or Shaq.
^^^You act like if you compare a guy to a guy he will be just like him....We dont even know if he will be like Camby ...heck he might be at best like Chris Anderson we dont know
