Shooting Guards

http://www.hoops-nation.com/top-12-shooting-guards-for-the-20122013-nba-season/

Monta Ellis, 3rd best shooting guard in the league? Over James Harden?

This guys list is crazy. I would take Paul George over most of these players, but I am in love with George. I am a big fan of Derozan also, but after Kobe/Wade it is a relatively weak group.

I think shooting guard has been weakest position over the history of the NBA compared to other position in terms of great players. You have Mike, then kobe, west, and wade in the 2nd tier, then drexler, iverson, reggie miller, ray allen and some others. Every other position you can list several truly great players but for shooting guards the list is cut to only four.

PG- Magic, Big O, Stockton, Kidd, Zeke, Nash, now Rose/Paul and a few others possibly in today's game

SG- Jordan, Kobe, West, Wade

SF- LeBron, Bird, Havelick, Pippen, Baylor, Dr. J, Rick Barry, Dominique, Durant

PF- Duncan, KG, Barkley, Malone, Pettit, McHale, Elvin Hayes, Rodman, Dirk

C- Hakeem, Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, Malone, Walton, Ewing, Robinson, Mikan (Howard also?)

11 of the 38 players who have

11 of the 38 players who have over 20,000 career points are shooting guards. 5 of the top 10 points per game scorers in NBA history are shooting guards.

6 of the 12 players that have averaged 25 points per game for their entire career are shooting guards.

I barely made it past Evan

I barely made it past Evan Turner, glanced down and saw Tyreke Evans ahead of Joe Johnson, then I closed the tab.

U forgetting some great

U forgetting some great shooting guards that were on the 50 Greatest List....

1.Clyde Drexler

2.George Gervin

3.Pistol Pete

4.Earl Monroe

5.Sam Jones

And combo guards like Frazier,Lenny Wikens & Dave Bing..

Plus some underrated shooting guards Dumars and like Sidney Moncrief, who in 1986 was voted the nba's best player,by nba players...During that time Guys like Magic,Bird,Jordan,Ewing,Barkley, Worthy, Dominique and Olajuwon were at their peaks...McGrady has a case to be among the 10 best shooting guards of all-time

Truly Great

Dumars, Sam Jones, Dave Bing and others you mentioned were all very good players, not GREAT. And yes there are some top scorers like Vince Carter who ranks 36th all time, but again, not GREAT. Scoring points alone doesn't make you great Wolf.

Ofcourse 11 out of 38 of the

Ofcourse 11 out of 38 of the 20000+pointers were shooting guards. The position by definition asks of them to shoot and to score. They are for the most part the scoring machine of the team even though they may not be the best players. they are the most versatile scorers so they're bound to put up points. however most guys on that list also have below 4apg or 4rpg... which tells u about how un-well rounded their games are compared to othergreat players at other positions

Who do you think I'm talking

Who do you think I'm talking about?

Michael Jordan - 6.2 rpg 5.3 apg 2.3 spg ( career season highs) - 8 rpg 8 apg 3.2 spg

Kobe Bryant - 5.3 rpg 4.7 apg 1.5 spg (career season highs) - 6.9 rpg 5.9 apg 2.2 spg

Jerry West - 5.7 rpg 6.8 apg ( career season highs) - 7.9 rpg 9.7 apg

Allen Iverson - 3.7 rpg 6.2 apg ( career season highs) - 4.9 rpg ( under 6' tall) 7.9 apg

Adrian Dantley - 5.7 rpg 3 apg ( career season highs) - 7.8 rpg 4.8 apg ( 3 consecutive seasons of 30/6/4)

Ray Allen - 4.2 rpg 3.6 apg ( career season highs) - 5.2 rp 4.8 apg ( 4.6 rpg 4 apg player for first 11 seasons)

Clyde Drexler - 6.1 rpg 5.6 apg 2 spg ( career season highs) - 7.9 rpg 8 apg 2.6 spg ( absouletly elite)

Vince Carter - 5.1 rpg 3.9 apg ( career season highs) - 6 rpg 5.1 apg

George Gervin - 5.3 rpg 2.6 apg ( career sesaon highs) - 8.4 rpg 3.4 apg ( career 1.2 spg and 1 bpg on career)

The only two players I would deem un rounded were Mitch Richmond and Reggie Miller, and even Richmond topped 4 rpg and 4 apg for four full seasons in his career.

So

You cannot put those names in with Jordan, Kobe, West, and Wade............. The rest of the pack is trailing far behind them if you ask me. All other positions have a longer list of TRULY great players.

I'd have to go with C, PG,

I'd have to go with C, PG, SG, SF then PF in terms of top-tier talent on an all-time scale. If we are just talking players in the top-15 or so, very few are PFs.

Paul Pierce played beginning

Paul Pierce played beginning half of his carreer at SG. Mitch Richmond is underrated. Jerry West is a SG. Allen Iverson is a SG. Earlr Monroe. Brandon Roy was a great player, but knees got to him.

Reggie Miller!

People are mentioning Klay Thompson and brandon Roy before Reggie. Why? He was such a killer, especially in the playoffs.

This year Turner and George

This year Turner and George are easily top 10 SG's entering the season but then again Turner ISN'T A SG. Turner is the Sixers starting SF and will play PG when he's not playing SF. Same thing with Tyreke Evans.

And BTW Allen Iverson was better then Wade and was also a better and more dominant player then Kobe during the late 90's and early 2000's. Kobe has had the better career and amazing longevity but apparently people need to be reminded of just how dominant Allen Iverson was during his run, he was the bridge between Jordan and Kobe and Lebron.

What is the reason for

What is the reason for optimism when it comes to Turner? I haven't seen anything from him as a pro that would lead me to the conclusion that he'll be anything special. He's unathletic, still can't finish or shoot and he's not enough of a threat to stay on the ball as the primary ball-handler, which he needs to do to maximize his effectiveness.
