After averaging 5ppg 3rpg and 1 apg Shaq Johnson has be dismissed from Auburn due to an arrest for marijuana possession. T his is a shame for two reasons. One Shaq is one of the highest flyers in the WORLD and the best dunker in the NCAA in my opinion. Second reason is it's marijuana for goodness sake, if he lived in Colorado or Washington and even California it would be a none story. I personally am upset because I just wanted him to make it to his senior season when he would be eligible to be in the NCAA dunk contest during the final four week. Oh well, hopefully for sports centers top 10 sake he lands on another D1 school.
Plus a guy with his athleticism can his way to the NBA. I said it about him here before. During offseason....he should even dunk a basketball...just shoot 1000 jumpers a day and work on his defensive awareness and handle. I hope he lands on another D-1 also. At the very least he can get a degree and start grad school. It would be a shame to not see him do that much.
He is a waste of elite athletic ability because he can't play basketball at all. Marijuana possession and use is ILLEGAL for ALL NCAA athletes, so it would not have mattered what state he was in. This is a simple rule to follow IMO and there are no excuses whatsoever.
he cant play basketball based on what? because he averaged 5ppg and 3rpg? need I remind you that Erick Green avg 2.6ppg as a freshman at VT, 4 years later he was the nations leading scorer and ACC POY. Now he is getting a shot in the NBA. Johnson had been working on his game in the offseason. He just screwed up off the court.
^whatever Washington State will take him ANY DAY! Cmon Moos & Bone, start sweet talking. aha GO COUGS!
Pot is a pretty harmless drug in my opinion, and it's legality is based on antiquated false assumptions IMO, but he's gotta be smart about it. I get that he's a young guy, and we've all done dumb things in our teens and early 20's, but if he was arrested for possession, he was walking or driving around with it on him. That's just not smart. If he wants to do that to relax or whatever, I don't take issue, but a guy who KNOWS it's illegal and KNOWS there could be serious consequences that could hurt his ball career if he gets caught with it should be smarter.
He's got potential, hopefully he can land somewhere else. Unfortunately, I feel his game isn't advanced enough to pull a Glen Rice Jr. and goto the D-League, kick ass and get drafted. He has a lot of work to do in order for him to get to that level.
