shabazz muhammad is slowly on his way to being the number 1 pick. last night was a small glimpse of his scoring ability and his improved defense. he a little out of shape at the moment, but in a few weeks when he gets back to full conditioning i think we will truly see his true athletism and ability to score at will. last night was a good showing against georgia and kentavios caldwell-pope, one of the better 2 guards in the nation. shabazz went for 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and ONLY 1 turnover, hence his ball handling has improved and i think will only get better. once he gets back to 225 pounds we will see the real shabazz muhammad, the most dynamic player in the nation and the future number 1 pick in my opinion. whenver his team is struggling he will be the guy that they count on to come up big, and i think he will for sure. and his jumper has vastly improved, not that i think it was a problem to begin with, this just goes for people who thought his j was shaky.

I like his intensity level. He does appear a little heavy. That is something that will likely improve with practice and game play. In evaluating his game he plays with good energy and a physical style. He really enjoys contact and looks to post quickly in transition. His ball handling from my eye appears decent but he likely isn’t a player who will great with a great handle at this time. Obviously you can improve that but he looks very left hand dominant. Last night he went right for 1 maybe 2 dribbles before always trying to get back to his dominant hand. But again I love his energy and intensity.

I look forward to seeing him play later in the year after he is in shape and assimilated into the system more.

He did look like he was carrying a bit of extra bulk but he’ll soon get down to his fighting weight and as a teenager he is still probably looking for his ideal playing weight and will continue to fill out.

He has perhaps the most upside of anyone in this draft, so I’ll be interested to see if he can make a real run at top spot on the consensus mocks as he has the ability to do so.

Bazz does look a little chunky and old (what 18 year old has a grey beard?!).  He has no right hand, but neither do Harden or Manu and they’ve done OK with it.   He does have good countenance on the court.  Doesn’t look scurred.  Should be good.

Looked like a good prospect but way to focused on scoring. During the game each play it seemed he was hawking to the ball. Still had  a good fg % will get better throughout the season. Read an article that talked about him being better than harden at this stage of his career.

And I do agree with you that he will build himself up into the first pick once he gets into shape he will be able to do more things.it’s somewhat amazing how he scored 21 points with out using his off hand at all which makes me think if he develops it he could be even more lethal.( from the positive standpoint)

he is just what he was supposed to be..

athletic, very long, super strong guard who is an elite scoring prospect..

and as far as negatives it’s also the same..he seems really nothing good as a playmaker, and looks like he could be better defender with that combination of 6’11 winspan athleticism and strength..

overall he is the favourtire to go #1 no doubt, but potential wise, i am a fan of Isaiah Austin and Noel isn’t dissapointing either..and man that Smart kid has to be mentioned too, at least for now

His suspect ballhandling is what nags me about his overall ceiling.  For a guard–and he’s basically limited to guard because he lacks the size of a SF–his handle is really suspect.  All-star level guards don’t have questionable handles.

This ball handling could be an issue to him making it to the very top level but if he has a good PG alongside him then this should be a limited issue and as his game develops he’ll polish his basketball IQ so the ball handling should not affect him too much. It could be the difference between him being a good NBA scoring guard at up to All Star Level and a true franchise player but his overall ceiling is still very high.

What makes him better than Glenn Robinson III right now?

im a fan of glenn robinson III, but he is not better than shabazz. shabazz will play sg in the nba. robinson won’t be big enough to play sf in the nba from what i have seen. shabazzs offensive game is far more complete than glenns. he has the ability to take over a game when his team is lacking and he is extreamly smart with his shot selection. shabazz has a motor that never stops and he will always be looking to improve his game no matter how good he becomes or how much money he makes. he showed in that georgia game that he has improved dramatically defensivly. he held caldwell-pope who is a sg for sure to 16 points and he played man defense on him most of the time, not tto mention shabazz was still about 15 pounds out of shape. he also dominated on offense in that game with 21 points and ONLY 1 turnover. handle must not be terrible. shabazz has a great jumper can create his own shot has an advanced box game, and he makes the majority of his free throws. glenn is definatly underrated and is the best player on michigan in my opinion from the standpoint of projecting to the nba, and i think by the time the draft roles around he will be a top 10-15 pick, but he is not better than shabazz. people hate shabazz because he has had a lot of hype and they try to find anything in his game to completly destroy, but the reality is for a sg who is a year removed from his sr year of high school he has a very advanced offensive game and has the desire to be a great defensive player, and he is showing that early. he will be great for two main reasons. 1. he has a high offensive skill set and 2. he has an amazing work ethic. also he is very humble and is not letting this hype distract him.

if he does not go number 1 which im almost positive he will, he will not fall past 4. he would be a major steal at the 4 pick because this draft is weak.

I cant see him falling in to the second half of th elottery even if he plays badly. His jumpshot is picture perfect, and his scoring instincts are elite. He’s an elite level wing prospect with almost every tool in the box at his disposal. He’d make a lot of teams sorry at passing him.
