There are a lot of Shabazz fans on this site,so I keep open mind on him...
Im curious...ive seen maybe 3 games of his in high school, and about 7 at UCLA.Why do you say he has amazing work ethic when,in my eyes anyways,he barely improved in college (still not much of a jump shooter, still left hand dominant when dribbling etc...)+ he came in at combine at 9 percent body fat?The whole year, people on this site were saying he wasnt as good as high school because he had high body fat, well how can you have high body fat a whole college year and have high work ethic(I imagine he played with higher than the 9 percent body fat he came in at combine)?
9 percent isnt a super huge deal I guess, but if you have amazing work ethic, yes it is.Im not attacking him,im just curious.I imagine his fans on this site have seen way more games of his than I have.
Hes got allot of potential, I like him more that Beal and Waiter from last year(who both had great rookie campaigns0. The only wing players I liked more last year were Barnes and Lamb. Ben Howland system sometimes doesn't allow players to fully shine ala Westbrook and Jrue. I like him better than any wing player in this years draft by far.
You can have a six pack with 9% bodyfat. Is that really considered high for NBA draft prospects?
I agree, he could end up having a solid career, but I don't see why so many people believe he will rock the league? I hope he can improve, but coming out of UCLA..no jump shot, no right handle, not really a good defensive player, and never passed the ball! None of that equals to a 1st round pick to me?
What makes you say he has no jump shot? He shot 38% from three last year and took a bunch. He has a nice compact shot that was very consistent in how it looked leaving his hand, it was usually just a little short or long but almost always online. He shot poorly at the combine, but I'll take 35 games of evidence over 1 day of drills. Of all the things to knock him for, his jumper isn't one of them.
Agreed. He really worked on his J during last summer and I believe this summer it will get even better. I think a lot of the NBA negative talk about him is due to teams trying to get him to drop so they can get him. From what I've been told by a UTAH Jazz scout out here, his age is not a big deal because he's still younger than other Jrs and Srs yet still but up very good numbers. Teams know his weaknesses but they arEnt overlooking what he is good at and that is scoring. They also know that he is more athletic than what he showed in college and they know his injury and weight gain because of it cause him to be less athletic. They also love his motor which is very underrated to fans. There are questions about his size for his position but its not as big of a problem as people make it out to be due to his arm length, athletic ability motor and he has that drive to be better.
The scout says he has the drive, hunger, motor that they wish Andrew Wiggins and Ben Mclemore had
In this draft i do agree he should be in the lottery. But i wouldnt be surprised if many players in the 1st round end up in the dleague next year,so thats not saying much...
Laxmixon, what makes you say he has a lot of potential, and what makes you think he will fulfilll it?
Well hopefully you guys are right, but I wouldn't draft him. I see other players that will become better players either in their first year or down the line.
Instead of focusing on his body fat how about looking at his athletic testing. Especially his lane agility drill which squashed the he lacks lateral quickness myth. Unlike B Mac whose the same age, Bazz didn't shy away from the moment as a freshman.
