The average standing reach of starting NBA SG in 2016/2017 was : 8’46

    It is a span from 8’05 – 8’85.

Donovan Mitchell measured 8’1 at the combine but in comparison to other players with 6’3 in shoos / 6’10 wingspan he maybe more 8’4 and his 8’1 was only to improve his vertical jump.

    Malik Monk measured 8’3 – 8’4.

    Booth are also pretty athletic.

If you cut freaks like Batum, Hood, Middleton you would see that Monk and Mitchell are not smaller than the other NBA SG. That does not mean that players like Monta Ellis, Randy Foye or Seth Curry are the prototype SG, but players like A. Bradley, JJ Redick, Gary Harris or Coutney Lee are good defensively without being freakishly long.

Personally I think Monk and Mitchell can play full time shooting guard in the NBA.

If you compare them to six men combo guards, they are definitely long enough.

    Opinions ?

It’s a real shame that when you click on the Donovan Mitchell profile on this site, it has no information entered.  I gather this site has always been run as a hobby, but there are a ton of users that would help keep this stuff updated.  Given that the site gets mentions in the national media already, it would be worth it to try a bit harder.  I could understand if this was some Euro who just jumped into the second round radar, but Mitchell is a borderline lottery selection.  The draft is a week away. This is disappointing.

I have offered my web developer services before.  Doesn’t seem like a priority.

I’m not sure why people don’t think Monk can’t play exclusively off the ball in the NBA. He’s really not much shorter than Brad Beal, and although Beal is considerably longer, it’s not like that leads to him being an elite defender (because Beal is solid at best).

Monk is going to be a very very solid SG at the worst. He’s got bounce, he hustles, and he makes big shots. I really think his comparison is Beal.

Beal compares favorably to Ray Allen in style and stats.  I dont see Ray Allen when I watch Monk.

Monk would be a top 5 lock if he had better length with his albeit hot and cold but crazy accurate when hot beyond the break and midrange. His ws is only 6’3", he will be a defensive liability to some extent but the athleticism makes up for alot of it. I think he 6’3" with shoes according to draft express as of last year. Not very big for an nba 2 guard. He will likely be a 6th man most of his career.

If he commits to defense early in his career there is no reason he has to be relegated to a 6th man position.  He will be able to guard PG adequately.

He’s not much of a creator so somewhere where he isn’t the primary ball handler but can still spot up and attack.  Essentially what the 76ers need.  The Bucks.  The Rockets.  There are plenty of teams now who’s primary ball handler is not a PG.  That is Monks future.

His wingspan is measured 6’6 very often. The 6’3 is a fake. If you watch him play, defend, standing next to others, study photos…. the 6’6 is accurate.

The combine measurement of 6’3" is accurate. It is highly regulated and supervised testing. Monk has very narrorw shoulders but his arms are actually average. Overall it shouldn;t be a problem with his leaping ability and quick release.
