 I know I’m picking on a decades long tradition,so maybe I’ll just look bad. But as a european basketball fan,I just don’t see the point of having to follow a TV show in order to know if you’re gonna play the final tournament. It shouldn’t be in the hands of a few persons. I would love a soccer-type thing where the best leagues get the most teams(Spain,Germany and England) based on past results in european competition. Not saying it’s 100% fair,just that,at least,you KNOW before you play what you have to do to qualify.

I don’t follow soccer so I’m not sure what they do so I’m confused on what you would like to see ncaa basketball do, can you clarify? The better conferences do get the majority of teams in and I disagree with using past seasons, they play enough games to base it strictly on the season at hand plus there is too much turnover from year to year among squads. At the Jedi f the day, for all the complaining that goes on the reality is we are arguing teams with 6-12 losses, we could be like college football where 1 loss could keep you out of “tournament”.

 Basically every team that wins a ame in the champions league,it gives its country "points". Points of english clubs accumulated over the last 5 years determine how many clubs england will have next year. It doesn’t change very often,and the comparison is flawed in a lot of ways. My main point being,you shouldn’t watch a TV show,and when I hear teams like Monmouth getting left out because basically of scheduling? It seems unfair to me more than just "win that game an you’re in,lose and you’re out". I now win your conference,but then an end of season tournament to me is BS. You have to give the regular season more credit than that,

 its not the selection committee. each CONFERENCE determines who gets their automatic bid. i think all are the winner of the conference tournament except the ivy league, which is the overall winner of the conference. 

 

its a shame to see monmouth left out, but they should be complaining to whoever runs the MAAC not the selection committee. im betting some of these smaller conferences start going the route of overall conference record instead of tournaments after this season.

Teams do know what you have to do to get an invite to the tourney: win their conference.  Other at-large bids are generally given to great teams that did not win their conference.  Occasionally there is some chicanery, and a team gets in that has no business getting in like Tulsa this year.

As for the 2 hour special on TV to reveal the teams who got picked, I agree that is pretty dumb.  I’ve never watched it, and never will.  In the past the show was only 30 minutes, then increased to one hour long, and I think that this year was the first time it was 2 hours long.
