I posted this on the NBS forum but nobody knew the answer so I am asking here. What happens to NBA contracts if there is a season long lockout. Do players sign a contract for a set number of years or do they sign a series of 1 year contracts with each contract corresponding to a specific year. I believe NFL contracts are a series of 1 year contracts. For example Player A signed a 4 year contract in the summer of ’10. After a season long lockout how many years is he still under contract? Did he sign a contract to play for 4 years or did he sign 4 contracts? 1 for 2010-11, another for 2011-12, another for 2012-13 and then for 2013-14. Basically if there is a season long lockout are contracts treated as if it was just a long summer break or do contracts get a year whacked off them?
