Apparently, Saric did not play with the Croatian U-19 Team at the Adidas (key word) Eurocamp, due to the fact he is endorsed by Nike (think that rules out his chances of going to college). Ugh. This effing shoe stuff is just no fun, Saric missed a great chance to play in front of scouts and just play in general. Not only that, but he may not get to play in the U-19 tourney whatsoever since Team Croatia is sponsored by Adidas. Their has been a back and forth between these two companies forever, and it is really sad when someone’s ability to actually PLAY against competition that could be a possible challenge to them, or give them the ability to play against their peers, it is awful. Lame, lame situation.

I rushed this unfortunately, but this is about Dario Saric, a 6’10 SF from Croatia who is thought to be a potential draft prospect possibly as soon as 2013. He was born in 1994, and was the youngest player at this past years Hoop Summit. If you want to know more about him as a player, look at Tyler Ingle’s article on the Hoop Summit and even the article that first appeared on this site when Dario was still only a 6’8 15 year old.

As much as i hate it..im not surprised Nike wouldnt let him play…but taking it as far as not allowing him to play for the national team is just crazy.

But whenever the topic of shoe companies being shady with the teams/players they sponsor. i always give them credsit for one thing (as backwards as it is)…Nike not allowing K-Love to wear the shoes of his choice helped create the So-Cal All Stars.

That it sucks, and the Nike thing with Kevin Love is still in my mind (and I think destroyed any chance he had of going to University of Oregon, which sucked). But I feel like Adidas seems like the guilty party here just as much as Nike, as it said right at the end that they made no attempt to clear things with Nike. I do not know, I for one was never really brand loyal until it got to the point where I worked for Nike, even in college I was still down with rocking Adidas, and I guess I still am, though my closet are full of Nike gear. But, I do not know why this would be that much of an issue. After all, the NBA is licensed to Adidas (until 2012) and they are allowed to wear whatever shoes they would like. Kids that age should not have to be forced to wear any product, especially in international competition.
