Is Sam Thompson the most ATHLETIC player in college?
Anybody who has watched Ohio State this year has to be thinking that. Thompson puts up a SICK dunk every week & his athletic ability is out of this worldddddd.
Just youtube Sam Thompson dunks.
I haven't seen anybody with his jumping ability in college & his jumper keeps improving & his defense is nice.....could be a nice player in a couple years.
Youtube Jamaal Franklin dunks.
I'll put Memphis' DJ Stephens up against anybody in college...
This. Dude has a crazy combination of hops and length.
He's 6'5, but he's Memphis' leading rebounder and shotblocker (2 a game), all while only playing 20 minutes a game.
Sam Thompson has crazy springs, but that's a big claim, especially with Rodney Williams around just in the Big Ten. Plus there is some Olympic level athletes in the college game but I'm a big fan of Thompson. He is a soph and his game is coming along slowly but surely. He is becoming a better shooter and he and the coaching staff are both showing more confidence in his offensive abilities. I took some negs for suggesting that he had the most NBA potential on the OSU team this year in the "I know everyone thinks ____ is the best player on _____, but I think that _____ is really the best". I thought calling him a poor/homeless man version of Rudy Gay, was a great line, I'm just saying.
I know everyone thinks Aaron Craft/Deshaun Thomas is the best player on Ohio State, but I think that Sam Thompson is really the best.
He doesn't force anything and plays passive on offense, but one day he will break out. I think he has the most pro potential on the team right now as far as the length of his pro career. He will be a four year college player and a late second round pick even then. I like his mechanics (pass/shot), elite athleticism, defense, long arms, quick leaper and he seems to be a self contained guy thats real coachable. Don't look up his numbers because they are nonexistant but trust me down the line he will be in the NBA. He is sort of a extremely poor/homeless man's Rudy Gay.
I remember watching Sam Thompson play at the 2010 city of palms, dude was sending shots left and right, I even remember him going for a backboard block and he fell over his own teammate. His athleticism is off the charts, possibly more athletic than Wiggins. If he had an offensive game to round out that athleticism; who knows how good he could be.
No1 in college is a better athlete than Wiggins. Fact.
I cant believe im getting negged for that.
Wiggins is the best athlete in all HS and CBB. He comes from a family of athletes.
He has a skinny frame right now... Give him time 'til he's a sophomore in college and he would possibly be the best athlete (basketball player) not in the NBA.
Don't think ability to only jump from a far, or throw a nasty dunk (that they practice) like all these street ballers.... Think about first step, explosion of 1 or 2 feet, no step vert, lateral quickness, speed in the open court, vert on a second jump, stamina etc. Wiggins would have everyone beat, trust me.
We talking world records.
I was impressed with Thompson especially with the alley opp finish but I would still give the edge to Rodney Williams.
I think going as far as calling him the most athletic player in HS and CBB is a bit drastic.
Is not when you consider he can get his forehead above the rim.
And doesn't lack anything from an athleticism stand point.
You would be amazed how many athletes in various sports register a 40+ inch vertical.
It just seems silly to think the most well know high school prospect since Lebron would definitely be more athletic than EVERY college player in the country. Especially when you have players who literally are on the basketball teams because they can jump higher than most human beings and are taller than most human beings.
THEN you take into account that Wiggins isn't in college to begin with, and the comment just seems a bit silly.
"You would be amazed how many athletes in various sports register a 40+ inch vertical."
For one, Wiggins is supposed to have a 44 inch vert.

That's why he is a franchise changing talent. That's why he's 'as hyped as Lebron.'
Is not silly or weird that the best player in the class is the most athletic... Last year it was AD, and Drummond, who happened to be the most athletic in CBB after being ranked #1/2 in HS.
Aaron Gordon is EVERY BIT as athletic as Wiggins, so why isnt he one or two in his class? His ranking has to do with his rapid improvement in his jumpshot and ballhandling, not just his athleticism. His first step is made better with the threat of his jumpshot and post game.
He's also playing high schoolers. Anyone that physically imposing will have a distinct advantage. See Duece Bello, another player who belongs on this list. That advantage becomes less obvious when you play against other star players with developed strength and speed.
And lastly, he's not in college. This discussion is a moot point when it comes to the original post.
DJ Stevens may get my vote looking at some of his videos... his arms are CRAZY long. He looks like hes got a 7 foot+ wingspans EASY.
McLemore has looked the rim in the eye a few times this year, in game,, at 6'5".
Being athletic isn't just being able to jump, it incorporates speed and quickness. Andre Drummond and Ant Davis were athletic, but they weren't the most athletic people in their class, that class had MKG, Sam Thompson, Tony Wroten, Quincy Miller and many others. On the topic of Andrew Wiggins being the most athletic person in HS and CBB thats a bit crazy, seeing as CBB has players like Sam Thompson, Shaquille Johnson and Rodney Williams. Derrick Griffin could possibly be more athletic than Wiggins.
Everyone who has been named on this post is an Elite athlete. But I think what Sam Thompson lacks is strength and that has to be part of the athletic department. One guys athleticism I really like is Pierre Jackson. He seems quick, strong, fast and has insane bounce.
He is good, but I wouldnt even say he is the best athlete in his own conference. I would take Rodney Williams.
There is a lot of Elite athletes in the College, but I think that Shaquille Johnson is the most athletic. Just look at the highlight tape of his senior year.
No love for deuce bello?
I agree with DJ Stephens being the most athletic, but Doug Anderson is another one to look out for on Detroit.
Takoto (sp) from UNC. as best from a run/jump perspective. Tony mitchell aint bad either
Shaquille Johnson, is in that rare breed of being truly elite. He is only 6'4 can get his head above rim, explosive fast and strong. I think he was also in his HS football team as well. This kid is elite as they rarely come.
Thompson should turn into a nice two way player for the nba down the line. As said I don't know if he is the most athletic but he is up there. Who do OSU fans like more Thompson or Laquinton Ross?
He has hops, but doesn't have the level speed or strength of Johnson given his height too in my opinion.
