TeslaBallerParticipantWhy quit on a 5 year plan 3 years in? That’s pretty weak! It couldn’t have been his choice, at least I hope he’s not that lame of a dude.
At least 3 1st round picks this year, maybe 4 picks if the Lakers pick conveys at #4 or #5.

holefillers1ParticipantThey were going to make him take a lesser role. He wasn’t going to waste his time if he was no longer in the mix. If this team is able to grow into a contenter Hinkie probably won’t get any credit. He turned a franchise with no picks and no assets into a team on the up. I fully believe that if Embiid was able to play this past season Hinkie would still be in charge. The Sixers would be planning for year two with Embiid, Noel and Okafor but instead we get this. I am not unhappy with what Colangelo has brought to this team but I am worried we will be heading back to purgatory (13th, 14th, 15th 16th pick in draft)

TRC1991ParticipantThe unmitigated disaster is finally over. Absolutely horrible job by Hinkie putting this thing together. What a horrible plan that never turned into anything remotely promising. 76er fans nightmare is officially over.
Amazingly, we might actually see them draft some guards this year, now!

TrillaParticipantIm upset, if he started this stockpile he at least should have been able to see it through another year. It was obvious that the Colangelo signing was bad news for Hinkie, but I didnt see this coming

NBAjunkie81Participantsome credit for at least loading them up w/ high picks…… Doug "Franchise Killer" Collins wrecked that franchise in 2012……. & Colangelo would have Never went near that team then -….. w/ No Draft picks hardly…………(Three 1st round picks only between 2013 & 2018 when Hinkie took over)……….
There’s an interview w/ Hinke recently where says he’s lost 20 lbs since November……. the losing was Killing him….
I really believe Hinkie wanted Porzingus & was forced into picking Okafor by Ownership……… They’ve got a ton of 1st round picks over the next 4 years……
Now Colangelo junio can take the baton & continue his father’s legacy of being an Exec in the NBA since 1965 ….. & grow rich by building mediocre teams that never win anything……….
Congrats Philadelphia……… those poor fans have supported what they were doing for 3 torutrous years….. And your prize is Jerry Colangelo, Mike D’Antoni & Jerr’s kid……. & the knowledge that the NBA forced them on you……

publius2481ParticipantI am really torn on him. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate trying to deliberately tank, but most of his moves are hard to argue against. Holliday trade looks like a steal. Trade MCW, a gamble, but looks like it will pay off. Draft Embid. Even with his injury, most of us had him as a top 5 pick, so even if you are like me and would have taken someone, you can’t call it a reach. I think the real problem was Hinkie was so desperate to lose, he did not add any veterans to mentor his young guys which has harmed some players development. Maybe this will be good for the Sixers, but I worry this will lead to short term fixes at long term cost.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantplayer power, potentially?
I mean, money aside, if you’re Nerlens Noel, even if there’s an extra $20m on offer…do you resign at the end of next season the way things look? Or do you take the 1 year and run like the wind?
The trouble with Hinkie’s strategy is that people have their own thoughts and opinions. And if I’m Nerlens, and I’m not reaching my potential because I’m playing on an awful team, then I’m probably costing myself $10m a season just by being there.
If you can’t resign your draft assets, then you’re doomed regardless.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe #1 reason they did this is because theu couldnt get any interviews with free agents wit Hinkie there. When it comes to draftin And finding young talent Hinkie is actually really good. Next year well be getting a lotto Laker pick for MCW who will be on the bench behind Giannis.

HitsterParticipantThe 76ers started to go wrong with the D12/Iggy.Bynum trade and Hinkie inherited that team. If the players that he had drafted had been on the roster or played more we may have had a better idea where they were. But the trading away of players for future picks is always risky and we have yet to see how it plays out.
Jerry Colangelo is hugely respected and one of the guys you’d trust to make astute draft picks, his son Bryan has a mixed record but worked well with his dad at Phoenix and has had decent experience. I’d assume it will be Jerry calling the shots over the draft picks, he’ll oversee things, study all the feedback and decide from there.
Hinkie did a few deals to get picks back for Philly and could have laid the seeds for a decent rebuild we will see in due course.
A team being 7th or 8th seed may not be great but it’s better than being 10-68, how long would season ticket holders trust the process and if the commercial revenue is falling, no play off revenue then the value of the franchise starts to fall which would concern the owners.
I think Jerry will look to draft more proven players, add a decent veteran presence or two and take things from there.
We don’t know if Coach Clifford had felt embarrassed at having to field such an uncompetitive line up and may have sided with Jerry against Hinkie etc.
