When a team trades the rights to a rookie who was just drafted, do they also trade their salary cap hold to the other team?

In other words, in this potential Wiggins/Love deal, if the Cavs had traded just the rights to Wiggins before they signed him, would his salary cap hold have counted as salary in the trade?

If not, it seems pretty logical that the Cavs would sign Wiggins in order to make the salaries match up as easily as possible, even if they have to wait 30 days.

I think if you trade rights you dont trade the cap hold of the rookie. Which is why the cavs would need to sign him first then trade him so the trade would work better money wise. I don’t know for sure though

i dont think the cap hold gets traded either. i could be wrong and the cba details changed regarding this, but from what i remember, that is the reason why the magic had to sign steven hunter to an unguarateed deal back in 2004, in order to make the salaries match since drew gooden’s deal wasnt sufficient to match salaries and varejao’s rights didnt have any ammount tagged with it.

I think that Phila9012 is correct, draft rights to unsigned players are often traded so I would think that the Cavs would do whatever suited their cap better.

If it was traded before Wiggins signed, there is no salary involved. If it is traded after he is signed, then the salary is involved.
