The league sent out a memo tonight to teams and the cap and tax are now projected to come in lower than expected for ’17-18.

Salary cap now $99 million instead of $101m. Luxury tax $119 million instead of $121. That extra $2m can have major implications for some teams and how they deal going into tomorrow’s draft.

Part of the reason for the latest projection being lower is because of how short the post season was.          Less games–> less revenue –> lower projected cap.

The expected cap spike last offseason was why teams spent money the way they did.  Originally it was projected as $108m and over time the number went down to the current $99m.

It’s funny that the Warriors being so damn good might end up hurting the Warriors, keeping this team together will cost a lot more money with the salary cap not going up. They’ll probably be paying quite a sum in luxury tax next year, wonder if that affects who they can resign.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking but if they keep winning titles what’s an extra $75 mil

just expecting more 2nd round trades or teams will have to draft more Itnl stashes for the future again even though the trend was leaning towards less intl this year with the ability to add up to 17 with Gatorade rights

then factor in all the other impacts it has on teams over the cap already…

Not surprising when the playoffs were 30 games total this season when most years it is 45-50 games. A lot of money has been lost.

With the cap shrinking a bit those bad contracts from last year are looking even worse. e.g. Mozgov, Deng, Truner, Crabbe … etc.

If the cap shrinks again next year Portland is screwed.
