This has been an interesting week for the Kings. As a long time Kings fan I finally had some hope this year that some of our pieces would start to come together and make some progress but with the lack of chemistry and the Demarcus Cousins debacle i’m not sure there is much hope for this team as it currently sits.

Our coach is a joke… one of the biggest stat shockers i’ve seen through the first 6 games is how the Kings as a whole can not move the ball and have such low assist totals.

W/L vs. Opponent – Kings Assist Total / Opponents Assist Total:

    W vs. Lakers – 16 / 21
    L vs. Portland – 11 / 25
    L vs. Chicago – 13 / 25
    L vs. Knicks – 15 / 26
    W vs. New Orleans – 16 / 21
    L vs. Memphis – 13 / 20

And Jimmer holds our single player game high for assists with 5. We have scorers and shooters but desperately need a floor general who can distribute the ball and play some defense. Not sure where we are going to find that and we already have a log jam of "Guards" but no true PG.

    Just my 2 cents…

They need to make a trade and get someone like Mo Williams.  Clippers need a bench and Sacramento has depth.

Mo Williams can also score off the ball for time when Evans want to play point.  Thornton would be scoring off the bench.

Evans isn’t distributing the ball as well as many people would like is simply because he’s acting on pure instinct. He even said it himself, no one is playing like how they’d want to play. There is no improvement because there is no coaching. We go and get ourselve’s a big man and he kepts getting the ball in the high post. No offense is being run, and nobody is satisfied. We drafted Jimmer so Reke wouldn’t have worry about carrying the entire distributing role. But they need a system for it to work. Furthermore, the Kings need a damn yeller like George Karl, or a system coach. Forcing them to share the ball is better than asking them to. Or if you’re Westphal, don’t say anything at all and force a big man who’s had a double double in each game to come off the bench to make him feel even more alienated from the team.

    Fuckin Westfail.

As much as it’s coaching, Westphal has been atrocious, it’s every bit as much the collection of talent.  WHY would you get ISO scorers at every spot?  Did they not realize they have no defenders, few floor spacers, and no one to do the dirty work?

This team has much talent as any. Them not getting it done is on the Coach.

The addition of Salmons has exasperated ball movement problems. He’s generally a good defender, but so far he’s been dominated by longer and/or stronger SFs like Rudy Gay, Luol Deng, Gerald Wallace, Carmelo Anthony. He should NOT be starting, but is a definite favorite of Westphal.

Francisco Garcia gives up a lot of physical strength to most NBA SFs, but he’s a more consistent outside shooter and friend to ball movement. Also, Donte Greene has the combination of strength, length and mobility to defend the position (and despite up-and-down offensive production, he still shows more willingness to find an open man). I’d like to see both of these guys absorb more of Salmon’s minutes and create a better flow.

And where is the screening?! How are we not running Thornton and Fredette off the wide body of Chuck Hayes for catch-and-shoots? The team has no idea what they’re really supposed to be doing offensively, and it shows. It’s inexcusable for Westphal.

And if there’s one benefit of the team’s coaching, it’s that they have Keith Smart and Bobby Jackson on staff. Smart improved the Warriors in his one season by +10 games and was only let go because new management was dying to hire Mark Jackson. He’s head-coach-hirable immediately. And B-Jax relates very well to current players and gets a great amount of their respect.
