kerrstParticipantWho is the better prospect? The team style and needs may be the only thing that elevates one over the other but strictly off of talent, who will have more success in the NBA?
Sabonis has the edge over Ellenson on the defensive side as he is a better rebounder and post defender.
Offensively you gotta give the edge to Ellenson as he has a better mid range shot and more ball handling ability as he can take defenders off the dribble.
Both are great passers for big men and show good hustle but both lack elite shot blocking ability and are below average athletically.
As an aside to this question can Chriss be better than both due to the superior athelticism?

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantOffensively no I don’t have to give it to ellenson. Sabonis is an paint scoring machine, ellenson hasn’t shown me any consistency with with perimeter jumper.
Chris is a great athlete, but athleticism only gets you so far, before skill is needed to help your team win, and even with that, no sabot is is above him to.

MopgrassParticipantI fully agree. Sabonis might be more fierce than anyone else in the draft and probably has the 1st or 2nd best post game (Poeltl?)… probably the best. Just that combination is enough for me. I don’t think Ellenson is anywhere close, though he could hit the lottery. I think Sabonis is top 8 and is assured some level of success.

GBeeParticipantI’m not particularly high on either, but I’d rather have Sabonis bc I think his bust potential is very low and I could easily see him being a solid role player. He’s smart, well-schooled, plays physically, has great hands, anticipates well, can make decisions with the ball, can read the defense and he does all the little things that most highly touted prospects do not. I could easily see him being a Nick Collison type, maybe more if he expands his range.
I really dislike Ellenson as a prospect. I think he has some of the highest bust potential of any of the ’16 prospects who have been projected to go lotto. Physically I think he’s sloppy, has a bad body type with heavy feet. He’s also a low IQ player who for some reason is touted to be a stretch, despite not being a good shooter. Even in high school he was described as this super skilled big who can stretch the floor, but he looked more like a willing shooter than a good one. 75% from the line does give hope, but that won’t matter from the floor unless he drastically improves his IQ/shot-selection. As a jump shooter, he is a bad shot taker. I also think he projects to be a horrible defensive player, who won’t be good enough offensively to make up for his defensive shortcomings. I’ve made this comparison before, but he reminds me a lot of Andray Blatche.

MettaWorldDurant1ParticipantI see Ellenson as a slightly more skilled but less size Mitch Mcgary

Jr. ROXASParticipantIf you realy watch them play, Sabonis is clearly more skilled than Ellenson. People say Ellenson has the better jumper but is actually really inconsoistent with it. Sabonis’ mid range game is really underrated.
As far as post game goes, man, Sabonis is a load down there. Once he gets the ball down low, it’s almost a sure 2 unless he gets doubled. He has so many moves and has such a reliable touch.
