Ryan Thompson should be a HIGH 2nd round pick !
What skills does he have?? I mean its is great to have hope but does he have great speed?? IDK, I only seen that reel.. Is he a great jumper?? Does he have a good head for the game?? Why has he never been mentioned before?? Why wasnt he recruited harder??
He will get a look but there seem to be alot of questions about him...
Ryan is going to be a good role player at best. Coming from a Kings fan, I wouldn't mind picking Thompson up if he doesn't get drafted because they would have a good bench with a solid starting line up.
First of all, why cant you answer my questions?? Second, why were his numbers worse as a senior??
Brandon Roy got better every year and obviously, this kid hasnt... If a senior doesnt improve every year, they arent getting draft.. If there is no sign of potential, no GM is going to bite..
I was fortunate enough to see Ryan Thompson play live once during his senior year, @Hofstra in Bracket busters. I think he is going to be a good off the bench guy, he can score at will, but he is not an explosive scorer, I could see him in his prime averaging double digits though. He is a team player as well as a good teammate. If he doesn't get drafted, I won't be surprised, but it would be foolish not to draft him after he tore up portsmouth.
he will be a good role player the brandon roy comparison is a joke. please get off his junk. he seems too slow at the sg and too small for a sf. its pretty bad when you cant even post his senior year numbers when teams prolly concentrated on him more
leppy, he is a pure 2 guard, he is not a combo at the sg/sf. The only reason that was put there was because guys that are 6'5" in the MAAC conference are usually SF. He has the tools to be a solid player off the bench to play the 2 guard. His defense is respectable enough where it is not a liability to guard SG's.
What can Brandon Roy do that Ryan Thompson cannot do?
Ryan Thompson has all of the same SG skills... and a similar level of speed, quickness and athleticism.
Like Roy, he can even play a little PG.
Woah!
On that note, I am done with this argument... After seeing that, I can tell that you are a homer and your mind will never be changed... Good day to you sir..
Ryan Thompson doesn't have a weakness. I searched for a weakness, and all people can come up with is athleticism, but he has average NBA athleticism and can dunk. His quickness is underrated. The man gets to the hoop at will. There are a lot of successful wings in the NBA with his level of athleticism.
Having the same SG skills as Brandon Roy doesn't automatically mean being the same level of player, but it is worth mentioning. I'm just saying he has the same SG skills. Name one Brandon Roy SG skill that Ryan Thompson doesn't have?

Ryan Thompson will be yet another second round pick who became a STAR in the NBA.
You know, if you're going to say that he should be a high second round pick, you might as well reach for the stars and say he should go in the top 10. Show some conviction if you're going to be such a homer...
SRY, couldnt help myself.
I was just looking at this guys stats.. Every stat but his free throw percentage went down his senior year.... He got worse at everything except shooting the ball with nobody guarding him...
You are running off all of those skills that he has.. I have news for ya.. I have all of that too.. Also, I can dunk and Im only 6' tall.. I can shoot, score, created, defend, rebound... Everything he can do.. I am arguably the best player on my team.. However, I play at a small school, just like someone else in this thread... My skills wouldnt translate to the NBA game, just like someone else in this tread... I could put together a highlight reel of me cherry-picking the hell out of people and making threes.. I could show you me dominating some of the teams in our conference.. BTW, our gym is bigger than some of those gyms he was playing in... The guys in the NBA are bigger than those guys he is playing against..
Please answer my questions!!!
Why wasnt he recruited harder out of HS??
Why have I never heard of him before??
Why did his numbers go down as a senior??
If he is Brandon Roy, why isnt he going in the first round??
Why do you love him so much??
8th deadly sin, i'll answer your questions because cyclo is definitely not going to...so here are your questions and i'll do my best to answer them
Why wasnt he recruited harder out of HS??
he was a 6'5'' 185 lb. kid from a non-powerhouse high school in new jersey who probably didnt really hit his strides until college...he was a 1-star recruit (his brother jason thompson was a 2-star)
Why have I never heard of him before??
im not really sure why you havent, thats primarily your fault because ryan has gotten a decent amount of exposure on this website among other websites...hes not brandon roy, but hes definitely a player you should be familiar with
Why did his numbers go down as a senior??
teams probably scouted him more intensely
If he is Brandon Roy, why isnt he going in the first round??
hes not brandon roy, cyclo is a homer..but ryan is certainly a 2nd round prospect
Why do you love him so much??
he's probably a huge rider fan or from the area where ryan thompson grew up in or currently plays
He's alright, but he's not really that good at anything at the NBA level. I think for a team like Golden State, he can be decently productive (that's not saying much though) but for any other team he'd be a longshot to make a roster. He's got no true NBA caliber skill, but he could definitely play in the D-League or overseas. What would his role be? I think he's a 2nd round prospect, maybe at the end of the draft, but what role would he carve out?
ryan thompson probably will end up in the lg.. No star though.. You guys knocking and saying "why wasnt he recruited harder".... do some research he had other options lol.. He elected to play with his brother in college for that reason alone. His brother jason was a guard who sprouted into his 6'10" - 6'11" frame.. SO there is your answer and jason made it as a high pick. I think his bro will make it too, but def not brandon roy, just a nba role player.
Again, what skill does 6-6 Brandon Roy have that 6-6 Ryan Thompson doesn't have?
Where are the weaknesses?
Answer the question!

Not saying he'll be as good as Brandon Roy. Just saying he has the same size and skills at 6-6 220 and that's well worth a first or high second round pick. The guy is smooth. Every year there's a sleeper who later becomes an NBA star.
Hoopsworld compares 6-6 220 Ryan Thompson's body and game to Joe Johnson.

Joe Johnson is a good comparison, but since Ryan is a SG who can play PG, Brandon Roy is the better comparison.
and i know who he is and his is a good player..a really good mid major player..he will be drafted in the second round and he will make a team i believe, but come on cyclo be real, one of my best friends might get drafted this yr and im not even makin crazy comparisons to one of the nba's best players bc he can do some things nba players can do..and to answer ur question what skill does brandon roy have that he doesnt..all of em bc come on man he might be able to do some of the same things but not even close to the level brandon roy can.. u just talkin and lookin like a fool sayin this stuff...just put his name and info out there sayin he can do stuff so ppl look him up and find out about him and agree with you, dont annoy everyone and make them like the guy less..but he ca
Thanks Taylor.
yeah bro no prob!
tigers04...is your best friend marques blakeley?
Comparisons are best case scenarios based on similar size, skills and level of athleticism.
Ryan Thompson
Best case scenario: Brandon Roy.
Worst case scenario: poor man's Brandon Roy.
Either way, the guy's 6-6 220 size and SG/PG skills reminds of Brandon Roy.
Ryan was by far the most dominant player at Portsmouth.

Impressive. This guy doesn't have the weaknesses of a typical 2nd round pick! What weakness does he have? Every NBA guard skill is a strength of his.

ps. Never heard of him before.
gotta disagree with this one...but I do think Ogide should be in the NBA some day.....his size may be an issue. He'll have to get an outside game, but his inside game is old school and unstoppable.

Jason's little brother. This guy can play!!! Has every skill a SG should have. NBA game all the way. Reminds me of Brandon Roy. For some reason, his senior numbers were below his junior numbers, but his junior numbers (below) are a better indicator of the kind of player he is and what he's capable of.
Ryan Thompson 6-6 215 SG/SF Rider U.
18 ppg. 6.5 rpg. 3.2 apg. 1.8 spg. 50.9% fg. 77% ft. 42% 3pt.
The biggest sleeper in the draft. The teams in the late 1st/early 2nd will be kicking themselves for not drafting him. Will be a starting NBA shooting guard someday...
Look at these NBA skills...
