Hey guys I’ve been reading this site for maybe 6 years now but for some reason never decided to post. There are definitely a lot of smart basketball minds on this sight, do I figured might as well get involved in the conversation.

Anyway watching Westbrook this year play without Durant reminds me a lot of MJ himself. Obviously the freakish athleticism and hangtime are similar but even more similar their undeniable will to win/not fail.  Even the skill sets remind me of each other  in my opinion, quality midrange game but inconsistent from 3 point range, good passers but not on the level of a magic or even lebron. I really do think westbrook is MJ as a 6’3 point guard which is kind of ironic given he plays on the same team as the best pure scorer since MJ. It will be intersting to see how the Thinder fare in this stretch without Durant and whether they can climb up the tough  western conference standings.

I think Westbrook is actually a better pure athlete than Jordan. In terms of speed, quickness, strength, and leaping ability, I have never seen anyone on Westbrook’s level. Maybe D-Rose in 2011 during his MVP season. Westbrook is like a freakishly athletic Allen Iverson. He’ll go at anybody, anytime, anywhere. He doesn’t back down from anyone and is super competitive.

I would agree with Westbrook being a slightly better athlete than Jordan.  Jordan’s advantages would be his strength for his size and overall skill level is a little higher.  Maybe in a couple years Westbrook can come close to Jordan’s skill level, no question he has the work ethic and talent to continue to improve.

Are ya’ll serious? He’s a better athlete than Michael Jordan now. The Michael Jordan who double clutched from behind the free throw line Michael Jordan? The rock the cradle Michael Jordan who seemed like was in the air for 10 minutes, no one since then has been able to duplicate the hangtime and grace of that dunk. I mean, Russell is showing what he can do this year as the number one option and they are first team nba numbers, but now we are comparing him to Michael Jordan…. He’s not good as Kevin Durant.

I think Russ is a bit better in terms of raw speed and explosiveness.  But regarding the other aspects of athleticism like body control, reflexes & timing of movement, it’s Jordan all the way.  Then comes the skills and intangibles which I think Russ is not even close to Michael.  With that said, Russ is still a top 5-8 player in the league right now.

Russ is a monster, but he’s no MJ. Not even close. He doesn’t have those kind of fundamentals/intangibles. He doesn’t have that kind of skill set and he never will. He doesn’t have that kind of basketball IQ. As competitive as Russ is, he’s not the killer/obsessed with winning type of dude MJ was.

Russ is a freakish athlete, but there’s not one thing he does that MJ couldn’t do. However, I can name several things MJ did that Russ could only dream of doing. MJ just had a few God given physical attributes and special gifts that few guards/wings can compete with.

Russ is great… But he’s not MJ… It’s just not even close. However, Russ is young and I still think he can get a lot better. He’s one of my favorite players to watch right now. He’ll just never be on MJ’s level though.

I agree. I think the guy only meant to compare Westbrook to Jordan in terms of style. I don’t think he meant that he thought Westbrook is literally as good as Jordan. Just in the way they play.

I would go with the best 6’3 power guard since David Thompson.

He’s really having a great year.

i think that team is more dangerous with Russ in Video Game Alpha Beast Mode with Durant now as the best second option in NBA history.

I can see the MJ thing.  The way he is a gamer and going after it every night.  Yeah, why not.

If Michael Jordan was Hulk Hogan then if Russ isn’t the next Hogan he is the next Randy Macho Man Savage or Peak Ultimate Warrior.  Durant is more like the Undertaker.

     Ok,

he’s the new Jerry West.  Best 6’3 guard in the game. Great scorer. Two way player. Can board, handle the ball, and get assists.  Pain in the butt to deal with. Always looks angry and intense.

He is to the current NBA what Jerry West was in the OLD NBA.

People forget just how efficient MJ was. The season he averaged 37 ppg he shot 48% from the field. Jordan had 10 seasons in which he shot between .482% – .538% from the field….Russ’ career high is .457%

As good as Russ is, and he is a hell of a player, his shooting percentages are on par, but slightly worse than MJ put up at age 40.

Of guys I have seen, he is a lot like Peak Charles Barkley.  A strong, physical, athletic beast who could score, run the floor, rebound, handle the ball, and pass.  He could D up a bit when he felt like it, too.

The all star game showed us, hey, Russell is the best guy on the court.  Same thing with the 1992 Dream Team.  Hey, Sir Charles is the best guy on the court.  He’s about to sky for the rebound, call his own number, dribble the ball down the court, throw down a monster dunk, put the defender in the hospital, bend the rim, and get a technical foul for making the other coach cry.

       You’re really stretching, dude.

Of all the players you’ve ever seen seen ( which apparently dates back to the early 1990’s ), the guy you find most like Russell Westbrook is an undersized power forward who finished top 3 in the league in rebounding 5 times, and shot 60% from the field during his prime?

I get what you are trying to say, meaning Chuck could do a little bit of everything, but there are dozens of well rounded players a lot more like Russ than The Bread Truck.

Do u know that there is footage when Jordan was playing in overseas game fresh from being drafted when he jumped a step inside the free-throw line dunked it and shattered the backboard. Jordan took a step in side the free-throw line and rock the cartel. Jordan had a 47 inch vertical. dunked of just about every center in his era. was faster than just about ever person in the league. I swear some of u kids had to be born in 2000 taking like this. this is crazy. the people that agree with this need to be band. Westbrook isn’t even a better athletic than Dr. J. what about Charles Barkley. 300 pounds 6’4 and could jump out the gym. David Thompson Dominique Wilkins Vince Carter, Shawn Kemp. Man you need to do your research.

He’s what Iverson would have been if he was 4-5 inches taller and a little bulkier. Same killer instinct "Me first, I’m the best" attitude.

I’ll put it this way-only a handful of people in league history can have a 44 point 12 rebound 13 asst. 2steals and a block in a game.

In the league right now, only LeBron and Westbrook can do it. He impacts the game in every way, and is virtually unstoppable.
I like the MJ comparison I think its interesting, though there’s no way I would say Westbrook is MORE athletics than MJ. MJ had better body control (even better) definitely jumped higher and was definitely just as quick and at least as strong. And he was taller. But the relentless motor, Jordan esque athleticism and all around ability is kind of similar
