Mr. HookShotParticipantSeeing Louisville play, I am truly amazed by the development Russdicilous made compared to last year. He really developed his passing game, plays less out of control and really looks like a legitimate NBA player. He definitely plays with a chip on his shoulder and has this winners mentality, not allowing his team to lose (much like Kemba Walker).
Most websites think he will be picked in the second round, ranging from the beginning of the second round all the way to the end of the second round. On Aran Smith’s big board, he is placed 64th.
What is your opinion on him? Do you see Russ Smith going drafted and in which round? Which team in the NBA would be a good fit for him? How big will be this NCAA tournament for him? What if he leads Louisville again to the title?

JoeWolf1I think when all is said and done, he’ll be one of the top 30 NBA players in this draft. You know what you’ll get with Russ, a lightning quick scorer that won’t be able to lock up shooting guards on defense, and doesn’t necessarily fit the mold as a point, but I think the guy has what it takes to score points in the second unit.
I realize I’m higher on he is than most, but I think he’s a sure bet to play a role, and I think he’d be a good option at 25-30. I think he has way more value to a playoff team than a project, and a team like the Spurs seems like a team that could use him. They’ve had a lot of success plugging in scoring combo guards to their system and getting the most out of them. George Hill, Gary Neal, Patty Mills to name a few. I think Russ Smith could do well in the Spurs system, and with Norris Cole only having one year left on his contract in Miami, Smith would be a good, cheaper option to come in and play that same role for the Heat.

JoeWolf1My thought was just that the Heat have needed to be creative with their roster in order to carry the Big 3. Cole is making less that 2 mil a year on his rookie scale contract. He could easily get more money elsewhere, and another rookie scale contract would make more sense financially than pumping out 2.5-3 mil a year ( probably his free agent market value ) on your backup PG.
They could do it, but that was my thought process.

Mr. HookShotParticipantRegarding Miami, I can see them trading down a few spots to the top of the second round (e.g. trading picks with the Bucks), so they don’t have to shelve out garantueed money.

PlatypusParticipantAs of right now i have Rus going to the 6ers with a high second round pick. He would be on the team to provide a scoring punch off the bench and if they wanted or needed to he could play next to MCW.
With my mock draft this is what i have the 6ers being (didnt include unpredictable free agency)
Top 3 pick- Wiggins or Parker
Other lottery pick – Lavine or Harris if he drops
High second round – Smith (best fit imo) or Napier
Lower second rounder – European Pick or BPA
MCW – (Lavine/Harris) – (Parker/Wiggins) – Young – Noel
Smith – Wroten – Anderson – Davies – Sims

FastAndFuriousParticipantI see Russ as a second rounder still.
Last night he came up big in the clutch but he made alot of stupid decisions and was just running like a chicken with his head cut off for most of that game,Pitino and even the big fella Montrezl had to cuss him out a time or two because he was just playing too wild.
His decision making is still terrible but I will say he has the talent to be a first rounder but I think he will be a second rounder.
