I’ve been seeing some rumors about the Wolves maybe trading their 2 second round picks to get another first round pick towards the bottom, if there’s someone there they like. Have anyone else been hearing this?
I myself don’t know what they want 2 more rookies for. I think they have a very young team now, and need some veterans in the locker room and bench, to show the way.
I also could see them trading Budinger to a team like the Clippers that needs depth. As it just showed in the playoff collapse.

I don’t really know anything about this situation as far as players the T’Wolves have been targeting as a late 1st round pick, but one guy that came to mind is Robert Upshaw if they miss out on Karl Towns and Jahlil Okafor. They could be looking to add another big man with a ton of shot blocking ability just to build depth to their already talented young core. Obviously Upshaw is a risk-reward pick with his checkered past but KG could be one of the few guys who can truly get through to him about the importance of making good decisions off the court.

Like you said they already have a lot of young talent so the 31st and 36th picks are a little overkill. Much better served to turn it into 1 guy whose a little better. I think Dallas at 21 is a fit. They need as much cap space as possible and need all the young talent they can get. I think Minnesota wants their hometown boy Tyus Jones. They need a backup point guard who can run the pick n’ roll. Plus, they need insurance for Rubio. They also have been interviewing forwards like Wood and Looney. I think Sam Dekker would be their target if they went with a forward. Minnesota has a lot of youth already, but it’s not like they don’t have veterans. KG, Pekovic, Rubio, Martin, and Budinger are all already there. I think they’ll try trading Bennett and Bjelica as well. Perhaps they can come away with both a forward like Dekker and a point guard like Jones. Maybe that would be too much youth, but I think they probably have enough vets already.

I know Minnesota has Pekovic but if the T-Wolves get a top two pick and get one of the two bigs, then they will have probably the best young roster in the league. Rubio, LaVine, Wiggins, Payne, One of the Rookie bigs, Shabazz, Bennett (I know, he is terrible but still), Dieng. That is a very good young roster.

Hopefully Rubio can learn how to shoot and LaVine can be more consistent with his shot.

Since everyone hates trade ideas so much I figure I’ll throw some out there for the Wolves. First off, I think they could use one more hungry veteran, but I don’t see any reason they can’t add 3 more rookies. Flip has already said that they will likely only add 2 more, but I think there are a couple scenerios where he can feel good about adding 3.

Trade: Toronto gets Canada’s own Anthony Bennett and Minnesota’s 31st and 36th picks. Minnesota gets the 20th pick and Vasquez. Vasquez would give the Wolves an ideal backup combo guard to help along LaVine and provide relief for Rubio. The 20th pick could be used on someone like Jones or Dekker. Toronto needs help at the 4 spot and may rather have Bennett and the two early 2nd rounders over the likes of a Portis or Looney.

Trade: Washington gets Nemanja Bjelica, and Minnesota gets the 19th pick. Nobody has responded to my two previous post of this trade, so I’ll ask again for you to look him up. I think he might be just the guy they’re looking for.

Okay, I’ll stop before I get killed too much. Try adding to the conservation if you don’t like something.

He’s long and has a good skillset that could really help the Wizards (who actually drafted him initially, btw) … at least offensively. But who’s he guarding in the NBA? Might be hard to hide him on that end.

Though I guess if Mirotic can manage, maybe there is hope.

I think Bennett and the 31st is enough for the 20th. Then they could select tyus jones who would be a good back up and is a local guy who looked at going to the university of Minnesota but okafor didn’t want to go there, so he feels a connection to the state. Then with the 36th pick they can draft and stash a guy, it really doesn’t matter who, just any high potential guy. Those can pay off like with pekovic or bjelica who would be a solid NBA role player. It also gives the team flexibility that way they don’t need to find a spot for the player like GR3 who didn’t do much and got released before the season ended.

Thanks twolf for bring up Bjelica. I totally forgot him. And yes either him or Bennett would be good trade bait.
I don’t know about Budinger. At the end of the season when he was playing a lot, he was playing a whole lot better. I don’t know if that was enough for the Wolves to want to keep him. Or another team want to make a trade for him.
I do think the Wolves will be active on draft night though.

I read that they were really interested in Nikola Milutinov on ESPN Insider the other day.

    Here’s the excerpt:
Minnesota Timberwolves: The team currently owns the Nos. 31 and 36 selections in the second round of the 2015 NBA draft. According to Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com, the Wolves may select Nikola Milutinov as a “potential stash guy” who will spend a few seasons staying in Europe. Wolves’ scout Zarko Durisic is reportedly a big fan of the young Serbian big man. Regarding Durisic, ESPN.com’s Chad Ford writes: “He has size, he’s mobile, has strong footwork and excellent fundamentals in the post. He doesn’t use his jumper the way he should and he lacks a great motor, but we’re talking about a serviceable 7-footer who could be worth a look in the second round.”
