Dude I don’t think he’ll come right away he’s skinny as heck and soft, will get dunked on by everyone. Think weaker Shawn Bradley with longer arms.

Thought this was a great pick by the Nuggets (then Jazz) at #27. I know his appeal has lessened somewhat over the past six months but DX did have him at #4 overall from June-Dec 2012. His highlights, whatever you can find on youtube, are absolutely nuts. He obviously needs 20 more pounds and a post-game but if he has any semblance of a post-game, dude will average many, many blocks per game. At 7-2 with a 7-9 wingspan and great agility, he could be a terror. Jazz offering a late second rounder and cash seems like a bargain in a league that saw the playoffs largely defined by the emergence of mega-sized C’s Gasol and Hibbert.

Question, though: Is he planning on coming to the NBA right now? Or is his plan to wait a year? If the Jazz drafted him knowing that he’s intends to come over immediately, this must seal Big Al’s fate in Utah with Kanter already waiting in the wings.

to think he’s weaker than Bradley. Gobert will be the steal of the draft. I don’t even know how Nogueira was drafted 10 spots higher when Gobert was far more impressive last year when both attended Treviso Eurocamp. Gobert gained 15+ pounds during the year, hired a diet and has more than solid stats considering his limited minutes (8pts 6rbds 2blks in 20min) and the fact that he had a new coach who doesn’t love young players. He will end up one of the top 10 players in this draft and I still don’t understand how he fell this low

there is something with hiss buyout clause actually… but it should be solved. His team is openned to that kind of deal.

I think he want to come in his mind but it should really depend on what the Jazz management told him and what they expect from him (backup behind Kanter, NBDL). He should stay in europe (maybe leave for a solid ACB club) to gain experience, improve his body strength wether wasting his time in DLeague.

All in all I think a bargain for Utah… low risk HIGH reward.

Very good value and well worth the gamble for a late-first round pick, Utah needed some more size so why not take the tallest player available. He needs a bit more seasoning and sending him to Spain would be a ideal testing ground for him I agree with JunkYardDog, the D-League won’t do him any favours he needs to play against men in order to toughen up for the NBA. If he stays with Utah it must mean that Jefferson will be cut loose with Kanter more than ready to start (most improved player candidate) with Gobert set as the back-up but Utah could send him down to the D-League anyway if he doesn’t impress enough.

I was waiting for him to be picked up and could have seen the Spurs jumping in for him if he’d gone one place lower. I always remember what Larry Bird I think it was said when the Pacers drafted Roy Hibbert “He’ll still be 7ft 2ins at the ed of the game” also the great Red Auerbach used to say “You cannot teach height”.

I fully agree, he is a low risk high upside pick up.
