UnbiasedObserverParticipantAccording to Yahoo sports, Rudy Gay is to opt in to the final year of his contract. Maybe if they got a few defensive pieces they could be a playoff team. Noah Vonleh would be a perfect next to Boogie and could be an anchor. But the Kings want to trade the pick and he might not be there at 8. What do you guys think?

Memphis MadnessParticipantThey could use Aaron Gordon as a defender, rebounder, and garbage man.
He and Rudy can play either forward spot.
Aaron Gordon would make a lot of sense if he is there.

Chilbert arenasParticipantIf they’re looking for a defensive piece Aaron Gordon or Gary Harris would make sense, if they keep their pick of course. Vonleh won’t be there at 8.

Nick YoungParticipantI agree with Memphis. If they draft Gordon instead of trading up for Vonleh (which would probably at least cost a future first) they would have a starting line-up of Thomas, McLemore, Gay, Gordon and Boogie. In my eyes that’s good enough for a 8th seed in the east.

Chilbert arenasParticipantDo you really think that’s good enough for the 8 seed int he West? They’re going to knock out Dallas? or Memphis? or Portland? I think it’s a line-up that leads them right back to the 8th pick.

Nick YoungParticipantThere is no way in jose that would be good enough for 8th in the west. Good thing I said east.

bkb77ParticipantGuy has almost 20 Million reasons to opt in. He knows nobody will pay him 19m Guarenteed next year so saw this coming a mile away. The real question is where does he go after this year and how much is he worth on the open free agent market?

BallinmvpParticipantYeah Gordon is a good option, smart or Payton could be good if they let IT walk. They are also bigger and better defenders

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantWho they get depends on who the Lakers get. Smart, Gordon, and Vonleh are all on the Lakers’ board too

doubledribblerParticipantSmart financial move on his part. He is not getting $20 million from anyone else and I doubt he would get anywhere close to that in his next long term deal. Take the 20 now because whatever he would have gotten this year should still be available to him next year.

ph90702Exactly. Opting in is just another way of saying that somebody would make less if they opted out. Anybody think that Dwyane Wade is going to opt out?

HitsterParticipantRudy was never going to opt out of what will be his best pay day and it gives him options later in his career if he wants to chase a title for less money.

r377ParticipantKings should of kept Thomas Robinson. They could have signed Luol Deng or Ariza for half that money. Plus they have this years lotto pick….

earldaniel31Participantbut Sacramento’s rarely conducting draft workouts which is kinda odd for a team with #8
excluding the #8’s salary.. they’re up to 67 million in salary

Mr. HookShotParticipantSmart move, taking the big sum of money this year and hoping his productive half year with the Kings will continue the next year. If he can show that is can be effective for an entire year, I feel like he will improve his market next year considerably.
