Rubio staying in Spain!!!
They did okay, they will trade Rubio when they need to and hopefully Flynn plays well if not they can trade him and keep Rubio. This kinda threw off the draft but actually Rubio should never have fallen that far. Sacramento started it all by taking Evans who i think can do well with them but Rubio will come back to haunt them. Then again though they got Sergio Rodriegaz who has a flashy game as well but is not on Rubio's level.
I kind of doubt this is over yet. They said they wouldn't negotiate until the lawsuit was dropped. Also his team in Spain is in huge financial trouble. They would prefer the buyout money to having rubio back. So Rubio's team is negotiating. He could play out the final two years but I would not be surprised if a buyout is still reached. Probably best for twolves if he does stay there for 2 years. I would rather get him at 20 with a better team than at 18 joining a bad team.
Everyone is overhyping the Rubio thing. Rubio WANTS to play in the NBA. Rubio has never said anything that would suggest he didnt want to play in Minnesota. Everyone is listening to what people close to him say as being more important than what he says. And how does a $97,000 contract lead to a $6+million buyout. It will be reduced, and Rubio will come over. If they dont, a NBA prospect playing in Europe wont want to play with them. He will be a Timberwolves. And the Timberwolves wouldnt have won in the next two years anyways
Report: Rubio to remain in Spain for two years
Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Minnesota Timberwolves first-round draft pick and international sensation Ricky Rubio will reportedly play out his contract with DKV Joventut, choosing to remain with the Euroleague team for the next two seasons.
According to El Periodico, a Barcelona newspaper, Rubio will withdraw his contract lawsuit against his club. He would have had to pay an expensive buyout if he were to negate his contract and play for Minnesota next season.
Rubio, 18, was selected with the fifth overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft and had been expected to be one of the top rookies in the upcoming NBA season. Should he play out his contract, he will not have to pay a buyout and will join the T'Wolves for the 2011-12 season, when he is just 20 years old.
