Lebron James belongs in Philly.  Perfect way to end his career.  He clearly loves Embiid and Simmons is his young brother.

If you were getting old and knew your career was coming to an end…would you want to deal with Ball drama…or go out on your own terms playing with the next generation greatest players, continuing to get back to the finals, securing a legacy which includes most NBA finals trips.

Lebron’s got two or three Good years left, he definitely isn’t trying to figure out the puzzle pieces and play GM like he’s been doing in Cleveland.  I like Clarkson and Nance and George Hill and Hood, but they’re not fun to be around or exciting like JoJo and Ben, along with the prospects of Markelle.

I’ve always been a Lebron hater (mainly because of comparisons to Jordan), but yesterday was not only a love-fest but also serious respect for talent between generations.

I believe Joel is going to bring him in, he’s too magnetic of a personality.

Its either Philly, where he settles in for 5 years and Bron Jr. finishes out high school playing here, Lebron plays another 4 or 5 years and goes back to the Finals at will…

or Houston even though Houston would have to gut most of their roster.  Both options are GREAT options.

I’d love to see it though.  I’ve always thought Lebron plays harder everytime he’s in Philly, has a little extra pep in his step.  Yesterday he creates one of his best moves ever.  Its that extra energy and youthful joy for the game that Simmons and Embiid bring, that Brett Brown brings, that I think is going to have Lebron sign with US.  TRUST IT!

Why shoot 3s when 1. you can’t and 2. you don’t have to?  I never saw Shaq out there  on the end of a pick n pop from 20.  Simmons is having a great year. He’ll have to learn to shoot if or when they figure out how to stop him, but until then maybe the hate should be for defenders that cant stop a PG from taking all of his shots inside the paint.

    I really like Donovan Mitchell.

He’s a terrific scorer and a really active defender.

But….. there’s really no argument in my eyes. Ben Simmons is rookie of the year.

    16/7/7 is ridiculous.

Aside from that, he’s among the NBA leaders in steals, deflections, loose ball gets, and he plays fantasctic one-on-one AND help defense. He blocks shots here and there too, and hustles for rebounds.

Combine his 16/7/7 with his defensive hustle, and you’ve got not only an historic rookie season….. but one of the more complete all-round seasons by any player in history.

The form on his pull-up jumpshot looks pretty sweet, so he’ll start hitting them at a better rate sooner rather than later.

As for the three-pointer argument… anyone that watches Philly’s games would know he hasn’t actually taken one legitimate three-point shot. His 10 attempts have ALL been halfcourt heaves at the buzzer.

I’m seriously impressed by Simmons and haven’t missed a Sixers game all season. Being Australian, I predicted the 16/7/7…. but I wasn’t expecting his defense to be this good this early in his career.

    ROY without a doubt!

Stats are a funny thing. We can use stats to tell a lot of stories.

In terms of ROY, there have been 29 players since the NBA/ ABA merger to avg 20 or more ppg in their rookie year. Seems like a meh stat right? 13 of those are in the HOF with Durant and James to follow for sure and Anthony, Griffin sitting on the borderline likely and it would be nice if Hill got in as well (so over half of those players end up enshrined). Yet these are still some middling facts at best.

However only 7 players have averaged 20 ppg, 1.5 steals and 3.5 assists their rookie season and it is pretty nice company for the most part as well; Bird, Jordan, R. Harper, A. Iverson, L. James, T. Evans and D. Mitchell (2017-18). *Grant Hill missed this by .1 ppg. This club gets very lonely if you include players whom averaged 35% or better from 3pt land and 85% or better from the stripe (Mitchell is on the cusp of this).

I am not saying Donovan Mitchell is destined for greatness but he is very deserving as well of equal consideration for the ROY along with Ben Simmons and not anything less. This just shows that stats can be used to support a lot of inspiring context.

Let’s be a little more honest and sober-minded though and a tad less over-enthusiastic about the hype. Neither player belongs in the same breath as Bird, James or Jordan etc yet. It just sounds so ridiculous. Let’s re-discuss any such lofty comparisons maybe in 10-15 years if there is any context left for it then (unlikely).

That Mitchell is also having a great rookie year.  The only difference I see is that you are comparing Mitchell’s stats to other rookie seasons.   The stats in the original post for Simmons are compared to any player season, not just their rookie season.  What he’s doing is very rare for any player, let alone someone in their first pro season.
