Rondo the most successful PGs ever?
Did you really just say Rondo is not even top ten on ball defenders at his position???? LOL that's funny just his quickness, foot speed and 6-11 wingspan ALONE make him a terror overall, and on top of that Rondo takes pride in playing defense you cant be serious
i love rondo, but did anyone watch this past series against orlando, he had one or two good games and did nothing in the others, yeah he absolutely destroyed cleveland which made him all of a sudden the most talked about player and made the cover of sports illustrated, he was pretty bad against orlando, and there was a previous statement about he was the reason they won in 08, are you kidding me, paul pierce was dominant on both ends of the ball every game, he brought them the title, saying rondo did is a complete joke
Iggy, if Kirk solely guarded PGs you would see how good he really is. Like I said, he has to guard SG and SF most of the time giving up a lot of height.
EDIT: By the way, I am NOT saying Kirk is a better defender than Rondo but people underestimate him. Wade has said he hates going up against him because he is relentless and never stops.
yes every Pg has their weakness, i completely agree, however all the PGs you named still dont have the talent surrounding them that rondo has...do you honestly believe if you switched rondo with williams, rondo would be able to bring the jazz to the playoffs even? i dont think so.... what about if you switched rondo with nash, would the suns make it to the western conference finals? probably not...but if you put any of these PGs with the players rondo has, they would be able to bring the celtics to the finals.
I will try to get the proof for that 4th quarter statement, but i do know its true
For Jameer Nelson he did. He averaged 18 points a game that series, maybe not torching, but his numbers went way up against Rondo.
I've been apart of alot of Rondo- Rose debates
I'm gonna say this and leave it up to you guys- I'm a Rondo fan, I will support him and I think he's a top 3 PG. The Big 3 helps him develop but I feel Pierce is the #1 and Rondo is the #2 who will make the 3 and 4 better (Garnett and Allen).
He could be the #2 player but he chooses to be the #4 because a PG as a top 2 option cannot win a NBA championship.
I do agree with pierce being the number 1 option and rondo being the number 2 but rondo is the number 2 option to make plays not to score, and if it wasnt for allen, garnett, pierce, perkins, sheed, surrounding him, would he still be able to do what he does? i dont think so bc there would be alot more help defense....i think this is the best way to describe it....when you see derrick rose driving, you see 2 and maybe even 3 men clogging the lane, however when u see rondo, there isnt any help bc they are afraid to leave the talent surroundign him wide open for jumpshots.
Rondo's on the ball defense is overrated. He's good, but not elite. He plays his man from behind. It's like that thing you do at the gym when you let somebody pass you and hope you can poke it from behind them. Rondo is very good at that, but sometimes it gets him beat.
I think he's the best overall defender at the point guard spot though.
That's all i'm saying overall he's the best defender at the PG spot
This past regular season his 2p fg% was a very close second to Nash among starting pgs, and he attempted 130 more 2 pointers on a slower paced team.
He could easily bring jazz to the playoffs. The Celtics would rather have Rondo than Williams.
rondo is a good PG but that year he won his first ring he was hardly a factor and without the big three rondo would be avg at best, the BIG 3 made him better and makes him better and they make it easy for him he has the easiest job as a pg in the league he can focus more on D because he does not have to be the number 1 option for his team he can grab a lot of boards because his jumper is so bad that he can camp around the lane, rondo cant lead a bad team to the playoffs let alone to a championship. people look at his numbers and assume he is the most important player on the celtics, IMO ray allen and peirce are because they hit all the shots spreading the floor so that rondo can drive easier, and when you play with the same team as a pg for 3 yrs of course your assist numbers will go up because of the chemistry and the knowing where your teammates like getting the ball.... if you put D.will,CP3, nash and rose on the celtics they would have had the best record in the league because of they are better offensive players and they all can takeover in crucial parts of games and people shit on roses passing ability but you try being a PG on the bulls where every season your playing with like 7 different teammates and playing with players who are hurt all of the time and your team is one of the worst scoring and shooting teams and he still avg 6 apg and his progression from jan to until they where eliminated by the cavs speaks for its self
Do you watch the Celtics a lot?
Wait before y'all mail in your votes for Rondo as a Hall of Famer..No question he has elevated himself into a top 15 player in the league..But If you put Rondo on the Bulls and put Rose with the Celtics..The Bulls would never make the Playoffs...And the Celtics will win 75 games a season..Listen ,Rondo is a gritty hard working, determined player who isn't as talented as Rose ..But has gained extreme confidence from being around Doc,KG,Pierce & Allen..And from listening to the advice Celtics legend like Russell,Tommy Heinson & Cornbread Maxwell have given him..After aquiring Garnett people said the Celtics had all the ingredients to be a championship team except a point guard...Rondo took that personal and worked to improve his game....But his all out style will wear him down in a few years....
The Celtics would be worse, not better with Rose at PG. Maybe Rose would score more than Rondo, but he wouldn't set up his teammates nearly as well, and the Celtics would lose more.
B-ball fan ........Rose is a pass 1st point guard..He scores for the Bulls becuz he has to..if he had the cast Rondo have he'll be winning rings..Rondo is successful becuz he pushes himself to be great..If Eddy Curry had Rondo's heart he would be a 8 time Allstar by now..But he's surving off his talent....But what good is having the talent if you're not putting in the work to become better?
if u switch cp3 with rondo celtics win ship last 4 years same thing goes if u switch nash dwill rose biullups celts wud be a lot more successfull with them rondo is very lucky he was brought up in the nba with 3 hofers on his roster dnt u think it wud b easy to run a team as a 4th option
I agree that he is a pass first pg, but that doesn't mean his court vision is as good as Rondo's. You know Ray Allen shot only 36% from deep this year.
yeah i watch the celtics enough to know that rondo is a product of the big3 and if rose wanted to he can do everything rondo can do and do it better and rondo cant do what rose can do,also rose's presence on the court has more effect then rondo's
ray ray was lightihng it up after the alll star break it was his start that made his 2 pnt % go down but 36 % is still very good
Rondo locks up player not every game but he does..he avg damn near a triple double in the playoffs last yr wen KG was out even in the beginning of the season he did so he proved he can score he may not be able to shoot but many pg's cant shoot that good well he doesnt shoot good for right now but Rondo is successful but not the most ever
cp3 is still the best
How is it people can say "Its because of the talent around him" yet anytime one of the Big 3 gets injured Rondos production increases?
