role players are a huge part of the nba. I think they are way undervalued.

You got your superstar number one option. You got your number two option who also puts up big points.

I think you can fill in the rest with role players who only do certain things well and are efficient.

role players should be able to ………… shoot well, play d well, rebound well, and play efficient. they should be able to do a couple or maybe 1 of these things really well. they dont need to shoot a bunch or score a bunch or even pass well really. there not going to have the ball in there hands.

players who are bootleg scorers are not somebody you want on your team. a player like sylven landesburg is an example. he’s never going to be a 1 or 2 option so theres no need for him to be on your team ever because he doesnt do role player things well. players who shoot low percentages and take a lot of shots equals a lot of losses.

i think teams should start looking at role players 15 pick and up. a lot of 1 and 2 options are gone by then. you need to think of players who can excel in a role playing spot.

Marqus Blakely comes to mind off somebody who does role playing things well and should get drafted in the late second round

Damion James, Pondexter and Booker come to mind as great role players.
All 3 are about the same size and build but extremely versatile and high energy guys.
James is the guy i really like. If he can develop his shot out to nba range he could be a solid starter or a great 6th man.

I think if your building a championship team you need a few components without question. #1 is a top of the line PG who can hit free throws and shoot the 3 at a decent clip. Without a real floor general to QB the offense things can often times become chaotic at inopportune moments. #2 You need a Big man who can score. This could be your 4 or 5 but one of those 2 has to be great on the offensive end. #3 You need a lights out SG or SF who can create their own shot by breaking down the defender and getting to the hoop for either easy buckets or and1’s The other 2 starters (Role Players) must be excellant defenders and one of them must be able to spot up for the open 3. The other should be a defensive Big man. Everyone should know their role. This is my baseline. If you can manage to put to put together 5 guys who possess even more talent then all the more power to ya but these are the elements you need to compete. If you look at the better teams in the NBA this is how they function for the most part.

Its interesting to note that the 2 NBA finalists have 4 excellant components each. Lakers its Kobe, Artest, Gasol and Bynum (Fisher still plays his part ok aswell). They also have the great fortune of having Odom coming off the bench as a sixth man. The Celtics have Pierce, Garnett, Allen and Rondo. Rasheed is rejuvinated this post season but still not what he used to be, so you would have to give the upper hand to LA in the sixth man department. Perkins is similar to Fishers quality as a player in their teams respective starting fives as far as contributions go.

Orlando had Nelson Carter and Howard. Clev. had Lebron Mo Williams and Shaq/Zeke. They tried to plug in Jamison as their 4th big starter but it didnt work. PHX had Nash and Amare but no real break down scorer unless you count Richardson or Hill in that role. When you compare teams along these lines and matchup the talent at each position… The 2 teams with the superior starting fives made it to the finals because they were healthy and they were appropriately constructed to succeed.

personally i think sylven landesburg can be a great scorer off the bench for a team in need of it. i mean jr smith is a role player and he takes alot of shots. jamall crawford is also a role player who takes alot of shots. so wat exactly is ur point leppy?
