I am really anxious to know what you guys think about Rodney Hood from Duke. He’s been listed in the top 10 on this site for quite some time but does not have a critique on his page. My opinion is that he could go anywhere from 4 to 10 in this year’s draft if he chooses to declare. A lot of people are saying that he’s a 3 and D guy at the next level but I think his ceiling is much higher than that.

He has a great handle for a guy 6’8, probably shoots it just as well as anyone in the country, and can score in just about any way imaginable (and at a high rate). His knocks would be rebounding out of his position and only being above average athleticism…though I think the later is a myth judging by some of the plays he’s made this year. Hood is one smooth player.

Check out this vid posted to Duke Blue Planet yesterday. Thoughts??

He is good. Not a better prospect than the top 6 (Embiid, Exum, Randle, Smart, Wiggins, and Parker), but he should still go top 10.

Rodney Hood in my opinion has a overall skill set and playing style that is very similar to Calbert Cheaney and Danny Granger. He has the chance to develop into a very good pro because of his ability to be efficient, effective, and dynamic. He has a simple, but very effective way of playing, combined with a versatile all-around skill set that allows him to contribute in a variety of ways. He also shows the ability to a talented and crafty scorer who can score in a variety ways( for example: he has excellent shooting touch form long range and midrange, he’s an athletic finisher around the rim, he has solid post-up skills, solid footwork on the perimeter, and solid ball-handling slashing skills ) I like him and I actually think that he has the potential to develop into an all-star or into a great role player

Don’t forget that he’s two years older than most of the others soph, and 3 years older than Jabari… He’s extremely good, but he doesn’t have the same potential, considering his age.

After Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, Exum, Randle, and Smart (in no particular order), I see Hood battling Gordon and Lavine for the next pick. So #7-9, unless there’s someone else comes on real strong or is doing so while slipping under my radar.

All-around guys like Hood who can shoot from everywhere will be able to make shots in the NBA. He’s actually a pretty safe bet.

he’s been a real good shooter this year, shooting 50% from the field and 45% from 3. thats going to be his calling card at the next level. Cus he’s not a great defender and lacks explosiveness. He’s not a great athlete but i’d say he’s a decent one, he moves well.

he wont drop out the lottery thats for sure.

I say this because there are going to be a lot of changes going on from now until the end of the season in my opinion.

Hood is a stretch forward that can play multiple positions. He has taken over the college game by being able to get to the hoop at will and shoot the 3. I wouldn’t blame him for going pro, but staying another year with a top draft class for Duke  makes the team a legitamate National Championship contender. Also there is room for him to go higher in the 2015 draft class which is less loaded.

a higher draft selection and a chance to win a national championship might be very compelling for him to stay

A left handed Rashard Lewis perhaps…he doesn’t really have the size to play the 4 like Lewis did but his game reminds me of Lewis’s when he was younger. I wouldn’t take him top 5 but he is a great value around 10th.

I feel like he’s what Shabazz Muhammed was supposed to be…without the flash.
