I have a couple questions. Is there anyone, in the league now, that can be compared to Denis Rodman??
Will there ever be another Rodman??
Who is the closest player, in history, that is comparable to Rodman?

as for attitude, no one I can think of. He was a very unique player. I remember him grabbing offensive rebounds and instead of going back up with it, he would dribble all the way out past the 3 hand it to his gaurd and then trot back under the hoop and wait for the next one. He flopped a lot on defense but did a great job gaurding multiple positions and getting under players skin. As for guys who remind me of him today, no one really. Somewhat similar to Renaldo Balkman in terms of how they play but of course rodman was much better. Jerome Williams used to play like him.

Great post! The Worm was/is one of my favorite players of all time… forget all of the off the court stuff (which was important, and cool)…the FIRST guy with a ton of tattoo’s, the rebel, the “I don’t want to score, I’ll do the other things…”, the celebrity girlfriends, the sense of humor, the fact that he was a total nut-job)… he could really play… he was the only guy who could guard Jordan, as he did in the Bad Boys days, or PF’s like Malone, and played a ton of center when the Bulls played small (which they did a lot), and covered people as big as Shaq… he had one of the best defensive attitude’s I’ve ever seen… he simply wasn’t afraid of trying to guard anyone, regardless of size or position… he was kind of unique in that it didn’t bother or rattle him if he got dunked on, or scored on… he just played his butt off, and made his opponent work for every single point… his lateral quickness and strength were off the charts… he could also pass really well, and had a solid basketball IQ… I mean at the end of the day he was a winner, and did what he could to win games… and the rebounding?.. his RPG averages from ’92-98 were 18.7, 18.3, 17.3, 16.8, 14.9, 16.1, 15.1… think about that… he was 6-8, probably 230-240lbs… (similar size to Melo, Beasley, or Haslem) and if he grabbed 15-19 rebounds, that was an AVERAGE night… he would regularly pull down 20-25 rebounds… no one in the game is even close… think of how good a rebounder D. Howard is… in 07/08 he averaged 14.2 and 08/09 13.8 RPG, and those numbers have been going down since then… they aren’t anywhere near Rodman… man, he was something else…

Rodman could guard anyone..from Shaq , Jordan ,Magic ,Malone..When he played wit the Pistons i use to love to watch him guarding Pippen..He would get under Pippen’s skin..It depends on whut u mean by comparing them to Rodman…As for being a straight up space cadet..Artest is very similar to Rodman…He has those weird quotes & crazy off the court antics….Artest even sounds like Rodman at times….If u’re asking if there’s anyone that can rebound and play defense like him? NO!! Rodman has no equals in that area…But at times The ‘Birdman’ & Ben Wallace play that all out defense like number 99 once did

Rodman’s jersey number is 91. xD For me, Rodman was the anchor of the Bulls. Jordan cannot score with out Rodman rebounding for him. Just like what llperez22 said, he would get the rebound, dribble it out and hand it to the team’s scorers.

I think KU freshman Thomas Robinson has a little bit of Rodman in his game, he is a feirce rebounder with a chisled phisique and a high motor. A lot of people think he could get the the NBA on his rebounding alone. I have a feeling he will develop more of an offensive game with Danny Manning’s history of developing post players, but of any prospect or player in the last few years I’d say Robinson is the most Rodmanesque.

Ya know, one time, Phil Jackson stated that Rodman was the most athletic player he had ever coached. That was about 3 or 4 years ago. That, IMO, is pretty impressive.

A 210 pound Rodman handled Shaq in the 1996 Eastern Conference Finals, he was freakishly strong for someone his size and was extremly smart. His use of leverage and his knowledge of how the ball would come off the rim was one of the more cerebral approaches to basketball than I’ve seen from a defensive standpoint.

I don’t know if we’ll see another PF who rebounded like Rodman, but he did something else better than anyone in his era. He talked a lot of trash and antagonized the guy guarding him so much, that he was often successful in throwing off his game. Instead of concentrating on winning, the guy guarding Rodman often turned it into a one on one battle of the egos. If and when that happened, Rodman won.

He may have been crazy but he was also very crafty and smart.
