i wonder who you guys feel is the better prospect after watching the past year since the last draft. if the cavs are offered the option to flip Thompson for Robinson and still retain their pick, do you think they would take it? Who has the better post game? who is more polished? who has more potential since Thomas is only 5 days younger. who do you think will be the better player in 3 years?

i definitely like robinson more as a prospect offensively. i think his game is superior to thompsons both in the post and face up. he also has more quickness and athleticism then thompson. he can put the ball on the floor more effectively than thompson and drive to the bucket. However, on defense i think thompson will be the superior player. i think hell develop into a very good one on one post defender and he has more length than robinson.

I pretty much agree with huskies100

I think Robinson will be the better player, but Thompson will be a better shot blocker and post defender.  Robinson does not have a shot blocking mentality on defense in favor of a stand your ground mentality.  Robinson is a more versitle player and a superior rebounder, he’s also a lot further on in his development on offense.  When a 21 year old PF is shooting 68% from the stripe, that’s a good foundation to build from.

Thompson still has miles to go and I think he’ll find a nitch on defense, get a few go to post moves and not really develop much on offense.  Many raw guys have great careers sticking to what they do best.  Robinson, on the other hand, doesn’t project as a 20 ppg player, but with his current skill set it’s feasable to see him getting 15-17 ppg at his peak.  He can probably score 10 ppg on garbage buckets and the FT line alone, and with a little polish his jumper could project on the pick and pop and his quickness will make him good on the roll.

Robinson is a better prospect this year than Thompson was at the same time last year but I think Cleveland are quite happy with how Thompson is progressing so if they could do like for like I think they might stick. But if they could get 2nd pick this year which is Robinson’s current draft status according to this site, I think they would look at the options let’s say.

Although Cleveland may well look at SG/SF options more in thisyear’s draft, the thought of Robinson and Thompson on the same roster would be a nice fit in my opinion. Even with Varejao coming back, we would assume that Jameson may goes to a contender so the Cavs would have minutes to fill in the frontcourt. Varejao, Thompson and Robinson would give them a nice trio going forward and Robinson would be the sort if player that Coach Scott could surely develop and with Rivers they could have a similar scenario to at NOH where CP3 used to feed West and Chandler to such great effect.

that ceiling is also higher. Nobody would call Robinson raw and I think he will be an athletic David West, who thrived in Byron Scott’s system. CP3 and West played so well together, I think it would be worth it. Kyrie-TRob is the best replacement of that combo the League has to offer. It depends on who else the Cavs can get with their pick. Robinson fits better with Drummond but Thompson with Barnes or Beal.

Thompson is a good shot blocker and has more energy than Robinson. Thompson really works hard and wants to play like a defensive oriented LaMarcus Aldridge. His offense will never get that refined but he thinks it will (pride is a good thing if you are willing to put in the work). In interviews he says he really admires LA and KG’s game. He is one of those guys that wants to improve so bad its hurts him. Just look at his body, this year. He was rail thin at Texas. He will be TRob size next year. On occasions he would face up from from 15 and take what seems like four steps and throw up a hook. That is until Scott reminds him after the next foul with some pine time, that he is not allowed to do that.

I swear Thompson travels more than anybody in the NBA. I love him though, he tries to dunk everything. He is represented by Rich Paul of Lebron fame. He was really pushed Lebron to stay in Cleveland and kept ties with the organization. I thought the working relationship he had with the organization was a reason (I thought they reached for TT, turns out I was wrong) they drafted Thompson at 4.

And to think I was p!ssed that Kanter was off the board. Kanter for TRob would get laughed off the board.

I agree that combo would be nice. Thompson has started at center a few times this year. It wouldn’t be the best option as they are both about 6’9. As they progress one of them in a trade would be a great asset. PF with potential are the most coveted young trade assets.

I think they would keep Thompson. Robinson is a solid player but, Thompson just has too much upside.

Drummond would be a better fit than both to me…

Drummond i dont think would be the greatest fit for Cleveland. I feel any of next years bigs will be better fits. They should go for Beal for sure.

potential doesnt win games. production does.

I myself would take Robinson.  Robinson is more of a David West or Carlos Boozer while Tristan reminds me of former Knick Charles Smith

heres another question for you guys, is Tristan Thompson already a starting caliber big in the league right now? i know he’s been starting for the cavs a lot and has put in some good numbers, but is that a reflection of his improvement during this season, or the lack of quality bigs the cavs have?

im not expecting him to start over all-star players, but if he’s in lets say, New Jersey, do you see him starting over Kris Humphries? or if he was in phoenix, do you see starting over channing frye? how about in atlanta over zaza? just how good is tristan thompson right now?

Thompson isn’t a starter yet, but remember his age and how long it takes some raw guys to develop – Bynum for example.  He has a great motor and work ethic. I expect him to look like a very different player 2-years from now.  Robinson is a far superior offensive player now, but I like Thompson’s defensive potential more than Robinson’s O going forward.
