Complex man. In a way represented everything that was right and wrong with college basketball. Changed the game in so many ways, both for the better and for the worse, you could argue. But no doubt a great basketball mind, and someone who really cared for his players beyond the basketball court.

Its ironic that his death comes just 3 days after dean smith. Both were among the most successful and innovative coaches of all time, but their styles couldn’t have been more different.

UNLV ruled college basketball for 2 years. Those teams with Grandmama, Greg Anthony, Stacey Augmon, and Anderson Hunt were some of my favorite college basketball teams of all time. They were exciting to watch and played with a swagger and chip on their shoulder. Tark was obviously a controversial figure, but UNLV basketball in 1990 and 1991 was king. RIP to the Shark.

Sad.  Tough week for college basketball. Two legends.

I guess college basketball needs great teams.

The current Kentucky team sounds close to the old Running Rebels squad. Great team with defense and swagger led by an alpha coach who may/may not bend the rules.

Coincidentally we could get an epic Kentucky showdown vs. Duke in this year’s Final Four.

I like the rebel coaches. Rebels like Coach Cal and Tark make the "good guy" coaches like Dean Smith and Coach K look like good guys.

I loved those Vegas teams. And that’s what they were, Vegas. As in, LAS VEGAS…..Showtime and different from anything else that I’ve ever seen in college basketball. Tark was a different character. He introduced the Omeba defense and I’ve never seen anything like it. The energy that they played with was insane.
They started the baggie shorts on the college level before Michigan, Larry Johnson and Moses Scurry both had gold teeth, they were city, they were brash and beyond aggressive. They ran the whole 40 minutes and were in the condition of a track team.
. I’ve been watching college basketball a good 27 years or so and they are the best team that I’ve ever seen, although Duke upset them with a great strategy and that 92 Duke team I think would be ranked my second best.
They were the best pressing team EVER! It was crazy to see how quick, athletic and relentless they were. They’d destroy everybody. Arkansas was number 2 and they went into Fayetteville and blew them off the court by over 20. Now, if they played Kentucky…
Defensively, as far as half court defense, Kentucky honestly is as good as any defense that I’ve seen, but Vegas MIGHT blow them out. They have a shot at beating Vegas though. They would have to play a slow game, but their interior defense could make the game close and go down the stretch. But if it was a running game, which it might be, Vegas could win by 20. They were super fast, super athletic and experts at converting fast breaks. You just couldn’t let them run or it was over…..
