Ricky Rubio for OJ Mayo

Does a straight up trade Ricky Rubio for OJ Mayo makes sense for both Memphis and Minnesota, and is it a realistic senario? Im some what of a Grizzlies fan but Ive been really disappointed with Mike Conley.

No...Youre a Grizz fan and

No...Youre a Grizz fan and you dont see what Mayo is gonna become.Geesh.

Dont ever trade a proven young star for an unproven young star.

And what your saying is after trading Mayo for Love they are gonna trade Rubio for Mayo?

Both teams have alot of Draft Picks alot of talent and alot of felxibillity with contracts and Cap Space they really shouldnt do anything stupid.

I cant see why memphis would want this

rubio just signed for another year in barcelona, hes developed a good relationship with mchale and he knows minny wants him,hes not fond of smaller citys, and its unknown at this point wether or not hes going to be another fran vasquez.
while on paper it would seem like minn would even love this deal mchale thinks quite alot of rubio so I dont think either team would consider this possibility as unless rubio does a vasquez its unlikely to benefit either team.

McHale has been out of MN for

In response to 13kavak, McHale has been out of MN for nearly a year now and had nothing to do with Rubio to the Wolves, David Kahn is the GM who made that trade with Washington and drafted Rubio. Also, Rubio's original deal was that he would play for Barcelona for two years before a buy out was optional, he didn't just sign a new deal to stay there.

Well I was thinking that if

Well I was thinking that if Minnesota ends up with John Wall, I think that a backcourt of Wall and Flynn is more dynamic than a Rubio and Flynn backcourt.

Perhaps they can trade Rubio for either Mayo, or sign and trade for Rudy Gay. I think the "Conley Experiment" in Memphis is done, and I see them looking for a new starting PG either in the draft or via trade.

You do realize if Memphis

You do realize if Memphis wanted Ricky Rubio they would have drafted him last year and not had to give up O.J. Mayo to get him. Mike Conley is too young to give up on and although he hasn't lived up to his #4 draft pick he averaged career highs in points and assists last year. Plus with Rudy Gay a free agent you could be stuck without any true wing scorers and two starting caliber point guards. I give that trade an F

Whoa. The Rudy Gay thing

Whoa. The Rudy Gay thing could work out..
It fills both needs, but then again. Who Knows if Rubio will come over..Especially for the Griz, but that's the reason they traded for Ronnie Brewer, in case they lost Rudy Gay, but I'm sure Memphis would want more...

@JoeWolf1

Memphis could be stuck with 2 starting caliber PGs ? What PG? Memphis doesnt have a starting PG....

And I think everyone is giving Mayo's stock a little too much value. When we drafted Mayo, I thought we were getting a dynamic scorer (somewhere between Ray Allen or Kobe Bryant ceiling), but I think he will just be a solid guard, and not a superstar that everyone thinks he is going to be. He's undersize 6'4, and has average explosiveness and settles for jumpshots instead of driving to the basket more to get to the Freethrow. I would take a lead PG over a 2nd-3rd option type scorer (which is what Mayo is and will be) any day.

Ricky Rubio and Mike

Ricky Rubio and Mike Conley... with who to shoot on the perimter? Ronnie Brewer and Sam Young? They are solid slashing G/F's but they would have no one besides Mike Conley who would most likely become their backup pg who could shoot above 30% from 3 point range.

Memphis could draft a

Memphis could draft a perimiter shooter if they do decide to trade Mayo. Xavier Henry or James Anderson could fill his role, and have the starting line up of:

PG Rubio
SG Henry/Anderson
SF Gay
PF Randolph
C Gasol

This team is really just a good solid PG away from being a playoff team, Im hoping Rubio could be that guy for us.

I agree with a lot of what

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, I just think Mayo is too much to give up especially with Rudy Gay still in question. That lineup looks okay, but what if Gay takes off this summer? Then I think they'd be stuck with a worse team, PLUS they'd have to be prepared to buy out Rubio's contract because he still has another year left on his contract. I just think they'll wait to make a move. Mike Conley is also entering a contract year, sometimes players just "happen" to get their stuff together when big money is on the line.

Well this is an important

Well this is an important offseason for this team, because In my opinion, this is the most talented Grizzlies team they have ever had, they just couldn't make the playoffs because the West is tough and they lack a solid play at the PG spot. They need to solve that PG spot, and sometimes you have to give up something to get something in return, and Mayo is the most attractive trade bait we have. I think Mayo's upside is limited and I think he has reach his highest, I don't see him being any better than what he is right now, hes a 18 points per game scorer and nothing more. I saw what Stephen Curry did his rookie year, and while I have never seen Rubio play, if hes anything like Curry, I would trade Mayo for Rubio.

I do think Gay will stay in Memphis, I think they will give him a Max contract that no other team will offer, unless the Knicks becomes desperate and offers a max contract as well.

I just think Memphis is going

I just think Memphis is going to focus on Rudy Gay this offseason. Conley gets bashed by the Memphis media, but he still has one year left on his deal and played pretty well down the stretch last year ( around 16 and 6 in March and April ). I don't think they are going to trade Mayo for someone who they'd have to buy out his contract for him to play next year while in the same off-season they're trying to sign a high salaray free agent. If Conley doesn't produce next year I could see him being shipped before the trade deadline and they could try to get someone in the off-season, but I just don't think they'll risk losing Gay and Mayo in the same off season, because even with Rubio, with those two gone and a rookie shooting guard...hello .500...or worse

idea for mess.eee

If my Sixers get the first pick, would you be interested in some kind of a deal for Jrue Holliday? I really don't like 2 PG systems haha

@apb540

Conley and Holiday is not much of an upgrade lol. Although I see Holiday someday becoming a lockdown defensive PG, which makes him more intriguing than Conley, but I still wouldn't count on them as my starting PG as of now. I think the Sixers are a mess, that Elton Brand contract really screwed them up. They may need to draft another PF just to make up for Brand's poor play.
