Last summer there were really only three possible destinations for Kevin Love to be traded to: Chicago, Golden State, and Cleveland. While I realize the offer for KlayThompson was pulled off the table, and the Bulls offer may well have been a bluff, I thought it would be fun to revisit and possibly rank the possible trades since so much has changed in the past 9 months.

    Chicago

Love for Jimmy Butler/Taj Gibson/Nikola Mirotic or Doug McBuckets

Butler made a huge leap this year and is looking like a true 2 way player. His offensive game has really come around with the added responsibilty of being the go-to guy with Rose out. You dont have to be a Bulls fan to be heart broken about the Rose injuries. A healthy Rose and an emerging Butler would be a scary tandem. If Mirotic were part of the deal, the trade would look even better for Minny. If he got Wiggins type minutes he would be in the running for ROY.

    Golden State

    Love for Klay Thompson/David Lee

There were at least a few people in the Warriors organization who were at least interested in this deal. It seems that Steve Kerr was smart enough to talk them out of it. It’s not a stretch to think that if Klay was given his own team that he could make a Harden-esque jump and put up some crazy numbers. Maybe Love would have fit in better with this team and they could have brought Kevin Martin in as part of the trade to fill in at SG, but it is obvious now the trade would have been a big mistake.

    Cleveland

    Love for Wiggins/Bennett/Miami 1st round

Enough has been said about Wiggins and his potential, some maybe overblown. Simmons recently wrote that he should be considered a top 12 trade value, but thats Bill Simmons for you. He has been better than expected his rookie year. Bennett is now a worthless asset, and the 1st rounder got flipped for Thad Young got flipped for a year and a half of coach KG.

As a wolves fan, if I had my choice of the three, I would still take Wiggins. Say what you will about Klay, but the potential of Wiggins is too much to turn down. And we all like potential…thats why we’re on this site, right?

said it from the start Kevin love is overrated, smart that those teams didn’t take the bait and traded any of those players. We have a guy here that’s a product of player that played on a horrible team and was therefore able to post up good numbers. He’s an exceptional rebounder, stretch four but an awful defender with mediocre post moves. Love is detrimental to the cavs, there honestly better with Thompson as there starter. I really hope no team breaks the bank for him in the offseason

To piggy back on my last post, Cleveland will eventually regret that trade there’s no question about it. There eagerness to win a title and bring a championship to the city who hasn’t won a championship in decades, and to do so quickly got a little over themselves when, they decided to part ways with there number one draft choice Wiggins for Kevin Love. A kid with that much potential and with so much promise to be an all time great caliber player, you just don’t give out for an oversight talent, especially when the guy is in his contract year and can just walk.

My question is does anyone actually believe that Kevin Love absolutely won’t leave?  He’s saying all the right things and it will be hard for him to turn down the extra money,  it just doesn’t seem like he is enjoying being there though.  Which is a shame because he will never be on a more talented team.  Despite what he says though I can definitely see him pullinga Dwight Howard.

Call me crazy, but I trust Kevin Love at his word.  If this team was a total disaster, or he had major issues with a player/coach I could see him thinking about leaving, but all he’s had to deal with is a lesser role, which I’m sure he expected coming in.  I don’t think the Dwight Howard situation is a good comparison considering Dwight made it clear before the trade he didn’t want to go to the Lakers but the Lakers thought they could change his mind given a year of success.

If not for the trade, Wiggins could have been the Rookie Richard Dumas (compare rookie stats) to LeBrons’s MVP Charles Barkley.  Whatever that means.

…for a good portion of his career.   He’s not at all..   It’s hard to perform with guys that need to have the ball in their hands.   Chris Bosh went through a similar situation with LeBron and DWade.   In fact, I think Kevin Love is doing better than what Bosh was doing the first year.   Eventually, Bosh started to do the little things to help them win and did more with less.   Most of Kevin Love’s issues is the system forcing him to the 3pt line.   Once they figure it all out (maybe next year) I think he’ll be cool.   Overrated when his usage rating is the same as it was his rookie season?  Nah…   He’s still averaging 16 and 10 in a down season for him & considered the 3rd option.

One thing I will say is, he’s not having fun and normally he’s not in any of the team pictures with LeBron & Co. on IG.  I don’t know if that’s a major deal, but you have an All-Star not around the biggest ‘friend guy’ in the league in LeBron.   I tend to worry a little.   Especially when you see Love on the sidelines or not getting in late in games, he looks defeated and uninterested.
