According to Buck Harvey of the San Antonio Express-News:
''The Spurs will consider everything and everyone this summer when free agency begins..But 1 optioned tossed out this weekend by someone in the Spurs organization is not just another name...Kevin Garnett...
Duncan and Garnet have been the best power forwards of their era..And will finish careers among the top 4 players to ever play that position..They've had 1 of the most intense rivalries in basketball ..Garnett had made a history of trying to punk Duncan slapping him and whispering crazy smack when guarding him..Rumor has it the it all started on May 9th 1999(Mother's Day) When Duncan was at the free throw line and Garnet looked at him and Yelled''Happy Mother's Day ''Mother 'F'er''...Duncan's mom died of breast cancer when he was only 14...Garnett is known for saying nasty things to get under players skin, but sometimes he goes to far..A few years ago Charlie Villanueva said KG called him a cancer patient.
There are some that'll say Garnett was better and others will say Duncan was the man..And Duncan has 4 rings to prove his case to Garnett's 1...
Joining the Spurs will be intersting for the fans of basketball and bothe guys have always put team 1st..But seeing them on the court in a Spurs uniform will be like seeing Jordan in a Washington jersey...
Its hard for me to see KG leaving the Celtics..He's 1 of the most loyal players in the game and after coming so close to going to the finals.I think with a few additions and everyone healthy next year they can still be competitive...
If KG joins the Spurs, he would be conceding something in regards to the rivalry and it will come off as Duncan being the better player of the two. At the end of the day though I think Garnett would do it for two reasons. He wants to win and knows he can win playing with Duncan, Manu, and Parker under Pop. A lineup that has Duncan, Garnett, Leonard, Green, Parker with Ginobili as the sixth man would be too good. A KG-Duncan defensive front would be unstoppable.
I doubt this as an actual legit possibility to happen. KG and Duncan hate each other and I can't see them squashing their beef this easily. Unless these two guys have really moved past their differences which I doubt , this will be like mixing oil and water.
Is there going to be a long list of playoff teams who aren't interested in Kevin Garnett?
Both have always been 2 very competitive players, the only difference is Garnett is more vocal and sometimes does and says things that he later regrets..But i really doubt if he's a bad person..Just a guy that gets caught up in the moment...Danny Ainge hasnt let his intentions known about what his and the organization plans to do..But Garnett's defensive and shooting touch was almost as valuable as Rondo's triple double...I think wants to return, but its up to the Celtics..
But i also worry about the Spurs signing a bunch of aging players..All of their key players are over 30..Duncan is 36...Manu will be 35 in July,Parker turned 30 this month,he's their only tradable piece..And with no 1st round or 2nd round picks in this year's draft.....Maybe is now is the time for them to look to rebuilding...
The Spurs may be interested in him but I don't see him being interested in going there. I could see him possibly signing somewhere like Dallas who is going to make a run at Deron Williams...If they get him with a frontline of Dirk and KG they would certainly be a contender for another title.
The Spurs with KG are immediate title favorites. Yeah, I said it.
I think most of us consider Duncan to be the better player. The Spurs need to get younger though. Even with Garnett, teams like the Thunder would run them out of the building.
not sure if they wouldnt put aside their rivalries for this because these are two winners. I would love to see it. First of all, it will help both out as far as not being relied on for major minutes all the time. While I agree the Spurs dont need a bunch of old players, KG is an exception. Then they can keep bringing in and developing young guys. Can you imagine the mentorship program and tutelage a rookie big would have playing with those two??? It would be like a big man skills academy.
Was that a serious post by JLV2012?
Anyways, I think Garnett is actually the superior player to Duncan, at least at this stage in their careers. Garnett may be the top defensive player in the entire NBA. He completely turned around the Celtics; imagining what impact he could have on a team that already is a championship contender. As a Celtics fan, obviously I hope this doesn't happen, but if the Celtics championship window seems closed and they are going to start rebuilding, I can see why Garnett and Allen would want to leave.
I agree that KG is the superior player to Duncan at this point. In their primes it was very close but the edge goes to Duncan. Right now KG is still one of the premier interior defenders in the league. KG also brings leadership and intensity that Duncan doesn't provide. Timmy is a great player and just because he is not a vocal leader does not mean he is not a good leader at all but KG is one of the best in the business when it comes to motivating.
He probably just forgot to sign out of his troll account and sign into his actual account.
Maybe we'll finally get to see KG as a Laker?
Can the Bulls afford him?
KG has too much pride to leave the Celtics. He clearly wants to retire here, Ainge will probably resign him for less money.
It depends if he is willing to sign for the Mid-level exception of 5.76 million. If he is any team that has a shot at a title will be lining up to bring him in. At this point in his career even though he could still make 10 million a season I don't think that is what is important to him. Remember as "Da Kid" in Minnesota he made over a hundred million dollars but could not get out of the first round. I would bet he would trade half that money in to be on a team like the Celtics with enough talent around him to win. I am not a KG fan at all and actually dislike him but as a hoops fan you have to respect his game and desire.
^^^ Never mind on that... With Derrick Rose out, KG won't consider Chicago. ^^^
I kind of want to see him going back to Minnesota. He would work great with Kevin Love inside. Then they could bring Pekovic off the bench at center. Derrick Williams will improve as a small forward in my opnion and then you have Rubio when he comes back from injury. Rubio is a similar player to Rondo so KG won't have much adjusting to do. If they can get a sharp shooter with the 18th pick then the T Wolves might actually resemble a younger version of the "Big Three" Celtics.
I think KG can play another 3 or 4 years. If so, then I see KG's addition to the T Wolves making them a legit playoff contender. If they could sneak in the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed I can see them giving a top seed a run for their money. Then in 2 or 3 years make a deep run in the playoffs. If they can get a quality shooting guard or make a move to get Tyreke Evans (another scorer and shot creator) then I really like their core of Love, Rubio, Derrick Williams, KG, and Pekovic.
If KG wants to buy another title next year then his only real options are Miami and Oklahoma City. But, if he wants to go to a team to help them contend over the next few years, then Minnesota would be a great place for him. He's still the best T Wolve in their history and a title there would just add to his legend.
No way he is going to win a title in Minny. They are just on their way back to being a playoff team and it is a huge step between that and title contender. Even with KG playing like he did this year the TWolves would still not stand a chance in a series against the Thunder. He gave almost the entire prime of his career to Minny so there is no way he goes back there now to just make the playoffs and get bounced in the first round again.
My guess is he stays with Boston at least for one more season. I can see them resigning him and giving him a player option for next year so if they don't contend he can go somewhere that will.
KG and Timmy D getting together in SA???
You heard it here first.
I'll bet you werent saying OKC would run S.A. out of the building when they were down 2-0 and the Spurs hadnt lost a game in about a month and a half. The Spurs were a great team, the Celtics were too. OKC just made adjustments and the Spurs couldnt make theirs fast enough because they had been crushing teams playing the same style for weeks.
If Garnett were to play with the Spurs, they would be just as much of a threat as they were this year. I would love to see it, but moreso, I would like to see Rondo and the Big 3 stay in Boston. Not because I am a Boston fan, because I am not...but because I am a fan of good basketball.
have made their last runs at a championship, it would be smartest to combine both the teams.
Starting lineup: Rondo, Garnett, Duncan, Pierce, and Ginobli.
With Parker and Allen coming off the bench.
Popovich as head coach, Rivers as assistant coach.
I don't see it happening either.
Obviously teams will have interest in KG since he had a great playoff run.
Also not sure how he's the best player in the league and 4 yrs. left is crazy for a 36 yr. old w/the mins he's logged. At most he gets a 2 year deal.
Best defensive player*
