Remember this name DAMIAN LILLARD
While living in Utah I heard his name in passing but didn't think much of it. This past week after playing in utahs pro summer leauge I watched him and I must say without doubt he is one of the best guards in America. The first thing that stands out is his size for a pg a tad under 6'3 in shoes 190 Once you watch him play you become amazed with his yoyo handles. He was matched up against a big 12 guard one game then a all euro guard another and just dominated. His very is at least 35-37inchs and he hits NBA threes at ease with defense on him(we play NBA three point line and he made 14 in two games). He also banged twice on two college big men. One was 6'11 one was 6'9. One Utah jazz guard(Ronnie price) went as far as saying he's the best overall guard he's seen this year in college. After doing a lil research I found out this kid was big sky freshman of the year two seasons ago and all conference and big sky conference MVP last year as well as All American honerableThis kid has Jeremy Lin beat hands down in any catagory u can think of. He has two years left in college and I've heard NBA teams have been watching him pretty hard. It might sound like I'm
embelishing his talent but after y'all watch him
play you will understand every thing I've said is more then legit. Very god defender as well. And long arms with Otis thrope big hands(looks weird on a guard)
He's an outstanding shooter.
You've seen him
play? At first I thought it was just summer leauge till people told me he does it in the game. People told me he would get more ast but his teammates miss alot of shots or the ball hits them
in the hands and head and they lose it alot
Isin't he the guy this website just made a profile on?
Thanks for the report. Great to hear some first hand info on him! I'm very high on him as well. He's one of the top mid major guys out there, a top PG prospect and a player that opened scout's eyes during the NIT tournament. He's projected as a first rounder for the 2011 draft - currently 26th.
His scouting report here: http://www.nbadraft.net/players/damian-lillard
Anything you think that's off the mark on his scouting report? He's a better shooter then the guys he's compared to.
How did his point guard skills look? Decision making/passing?
Looked very good. He looked like a NBA point guard out there compared to the other pros out there. His form
is kinda awkward but his shot goes in. Imma check out the scouting report on him now
Looks about right except he's a better shooter and more athletic then maynor and sessions. I don't think he even tok a midrange shot in the games I saw him. He either took it to the hole for a high flying layup/dunk or shot a deep three( a foot behind the three point line) he can get seperation with ease and made 3 people fall with his handles. I didn't see him hit a spot up jumper because he was the teams pg. I got be honest though. I've seen alot of guards recently from
college to back up
NBA to euro and this guy for his age is one of the most impressive of the bunch
Yeah he gets to the rim at will, great first step. He's gonna need to develop a runner and some shots in intermediate range. Right now he's too much a 3 point or rim type of guy. Which works against his current competition but not at the next level. My scout contacts keep telling me to not get too excited about him yet. But I think he's the real deal. Next great PG out of Oakland??
It's too early to put him in the same category as guys like Payton, Kidd, and Hook, but I can't wait to see him play. Hopefully, Weber State gets a couple of games on ESPN or the College Sports Network.
yeah i wouldnt put him in there catagory because they are proven, but usually when you see a guy from a small conference they have bigger weakness then he has like no jumper or cant get to the rim and finish etc. but how often do you see a upcoming jr point guard whos quick has deep range and can get to the hole and finish you know? i agree id like to see him get a midrange and floater and i wonder if he can do it but just doesnt show it because no one has been able to stop his drives or deep shot( they will be able to stop it in the nba and draft camps). im kinda upset that i didnt listen to some people around here in utah when they said i should check him out or when my boy Harold Arceneaux (former weber st great) said the kid is the truth. whats funny is if he was playing at a big time school and doing this some people whould be comparing him to a couple nba players and wouldnt be as skeptical( i would prob be one of them if i just watched his college games and didnt see him play this past week)
Does he play PG, cause it seems he's the 2 guard out there in highlights??? I haven't seen/found more than 2 weak video clips of him, so I can't say much. One question I have is, if he's so potentially talented, why Weber State? Any reason? Not knocking him, just would like to know more...
Actually, he was recruited by some fairly well known schools, such as St. Mary's, Fresno State, San Diego State. However, he wanted to get out of his rough neighborhood, and make a change in his surroundings. Some of his friends/classmates died before they ever graduated from high school. That, and Coach Rahe's straight talk that he didn't want Lillard if he wasn't going to go to class and take care of his business off the court impressed him more than the coaches who were (he felt) telling him what he wanted to hear just to get him.
There are a couple of good articles about Lillard and why he chose Weber State:
He's probably just a late-bloomer. If a guy begins garnering interest from colleges at a late stage, then there won't be many high-majors knocking down his door, unless he's a super-raw 7-footer or something like that.
Agreed, I just hadn't heard much about this guy and was wondering...
i usually try and go to 1 or 2 sac state games a year, so ill have to try and check him out.
i actually wondered the same thing and one of the guys at the summer leauge that knew hm said he didnt play big time aau. they said he dominated in hs which doesnt mean alot if you dont play big time aau. yeah hes a pg from what ive seen in the games hes played. finds the open man and makes the basic passes as well as the hard ones. i think some may think hes not because hes so good at scoring and when you do that alot of people liek to label you a combo guard
I love that Jeremy Lin has become elite enough that you can hype a prospect by saying "He's better than Lin!"
