OhCanada-ParticipantAssuming the Raptors don’t pull off a big-time trade or sign and trade for a big name PF in the off season and they are maxed out on the cap from resigning Biyambo and Derozan here are some low key acquisitions they can make this off season for a starting PF similar to Scola/Thompson with the MLE or veterans minimum this year. Assuming the Raptors keep Patterson coming off the bench the way Casey likes and drafts a PF of the future they will need to ink a cheap starting PF for the short term.
David West- provides a toughness that Toronto lacked with Biyambo off the court and bigtime experience too keep the team mentally focused. Was never known as a floor spacer but like Scola always has been a decent midrange guy and I’m sure he can step out to the three point line.
Trevor Booker- Extremely active guy that well get extra possessions for your team and play hard on defence. Would be a fan favourite with his energy level and can stretch the floor.
Darrell Arthur- Has never really been given consistent minutes but when he has he has shown to be a jack of all trades master of none. Low risk high reward for a guy that may striluggle to find a roster spot. Ujiri is familiar with him being previously with him with the Nuggets I think.
Luc Richard Mbah A Moute- Forgot about him? Used to be aa big part of the Bucks before being tossed around the league to a bad Philly team and stuck in the doghouse on the Clippers. Good floor spacer and passer, good defender and rebounder. Could be a very poor man’s Draymond Green on the Raptors.
Jon Leuer- Has always rebounded well and taken good system shots.
I don’t like Terrence Jones due to his childhood friendship with Terrence Ross which is the most immature Toronto Raptor.

TRC1991ParticipantNot one of those guys is an upgrade to Patterson.

OhCanada-ParticipantIt’s not meant to be an upgrade for Patterson. It’s meant to be an upgrade for Scola while retaining the current roster and developing the draft pick at #9.

BiggysmallsParticipantOn paper, I guess West is the best name but how much does he have left in the tank?
Would he be able to give Toronto 22-25 minutes per game? Because I agree, I think his toughness and experience would be valuable for a Toronto team that despite going far, seemed to be at times, mentally unprepared for the moment.
Think if you’ve got a guy like Valanciunas at Center, you’d want a mobile PF who can play on the perimeter to the short corner area offensively and defend outside so that JV can control the paint.
I guess everyone wants a PF that can do those things.
I know he doesnt have the interior toughness, but I think Ryan Anderson would be a good fit in Toronto. His shooting would be valuable in Toronto because DeRozan is a mid-wing type guy and JV is all inside. Anderson, Carroll and Lowry could provide some floor balance and his lack of defensive chops could be offset by Carroll, Lowry, JV and a handful of bench guys.

BiggysmallsParticipantOh whoops didn’t see the whole "low key" part. so scratch Anderson as I’m sure he’ll be semi-coveted.

dmo21ParticipantThey need a power forward to stretch the floor. Some "low key" guys that they should take a look at:
Marvin Williams (stretch forward who is a strong veteran presence).
Motiejunas/Terrence Jones (both restricted and young. Houston can’t sign them both. I would be happy with either).
Ilyasova (doubt Orlando will bring him back. Would like to see him on a playoff team).

OhCanada-ParticipantThose guys will likely get paid more than Toronto can afford. That’s why I left them off.

dmo21ParticipantYeah, I’m also in the party that we shouldn’t throw crazy money at Biyombo (had a good playoff, but he’s still just the backup centre and I like the way Bebe plays) as that should be used to upgrade our starting power forward position. Hopefully Demar takes a home team discount too as players with his game style aren’t trending very well in the league right now (ball dominant wings that can’t shoot 3’s).

BiggysmallsParticipantEvery team wants a PF that can "stretch the floor"
That has become a prerequisite for PFs everywhere. It’s like wanting a Point guard who can pass.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantWhat about Mirza teletovic? I believe he’s a free agent and he can really stretch the floor for a player his size. Not the best rebounder or defender but still an upgrade to scola imo. Could start or you could choose to start Patterson instead and bring him off the bench. Not sure what the market will be for him but he might be in their price range.

Hype MachineThe Raptors could go for an international. After the Olympics a bunch of standouts always get hypped.
I think Brock Motum will turn heads with his passing, rebounding and shooting ability at the 4.
Or Michael Beasley who is under rated…altho Canadas lax weed laws might provide too much temptation as he wiffs the maryjane when walking into the arena.

OhCanada-ParticipantCome on man LMAO at Brock Motum. You can at least try. 17-mpg on a 7-17 team in Lithuania, provides no defense or rebounding. I was expecting you to say Cameron Bairstow who I’ve actually seen play well this year.
On a side note the weed thing happening here is actually getting crazy. There’s a fine line between legal and illegal distribution within the dispensaries here and a bunch of them got raided and shutdown by cops. Anyone and there grandmother can get weed gummybears from the neighbourhood potshop lol.

Hype MachineLol Motum is decent. Hes better than Bairstow in my opinion.
I actually expect him to get offers….maybe in the 2 year, 4m range. He looks goofy but can ball. His team was very successful in Europe.

BiggaveliiiParticipantIf raptors can get Paul Millsap which is possible if the Hawks are serious about this rebuild they should jump on it. I dont know what the Raptors can offer but it would have to be the 9th pick and a couple of other first and some other pieces. With that being said i dont know if the Raptors will have enough to actually trade for a legit quality 4 man. I would like to see them get Anderson, but him and Patterson do the samething with Anderson being the better shooter. I mean if there isnt an offer that they like you can resort to the draft which is most likely what they are doing. The time for them is now especially if the Hawks are rebuilding, The Bulls i dont trust their chemistry, The Heat with Bosh’s health, and the only other threats would be Boston, Cleveland and possibly the Pacers. I want the Raptors to be aggressive on the trade front, but another option could be to go small and have one big(JV) defitnetly the biggest offseason in franchise history.

HitsterParticipantIf they draft a PF at 9 then he’d need some minutes and could play around Patterson. A lot depends on what happens with Biyombo for if he goes then they will need an extra frontcourt body.
The Raps are one of the better teams out East now so have a better chance of adding a veteran or two and have had success with bringing proven European guys to the NBA before. So a lot could depend on who has a good Olympics.
All names mentioned above look decent choices, Jordan Hill could be another FA they consideer for one of their exceptions.
They also have 27th pick which they could look to flip for a proven player on a short term deal too, if teams want to get into the draft.
