So the draft season is upon us. The Raptors have a few options.

    1. Replace Amir with a PF

    2. Try to unearth a starting SF

    3. Back-up PG as insurance

hopefuls for each scenario (with my top pick first)

    1. Kevon Looney / Chris McCullough

    2. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson / Justin Anderson

    3. Tyus Jones / RJ Hunter (has been trying to develop his PG skills)

    Thoughts?

The Raptors have been mentioned in a lot of trade rumors, particularly involving Terrence Ross and Taj Gibson.  If they do get a veteran and want to develop a young player Looney would fit, but I think the best long term target is Christian Wood, who would block shots and space the floor beside Jonas, assuming he checks out in interviews.

With his struggles from the 3 point arc, Demar fits better as a SF, I think RJ Hunter would be a good fit at the 2, and Justin Anderson would fit as well.  RHJ is not a good fit with Demar, and long term I think they hope Bruno develops.

I tend to disagree with your assessment of DeRozan as a 3- only becuase he cannot defend big wings. Yes he can’t shoot, but he’s entirely overmatched by any number of other bigger wings. He needs a guy beside him who can defend big wings and knock down threes in order to minimize his weaknesses.

Derozan is a bit overmatched by bigger small forwards, but that is an issue with relatively few opponents.   Against the LeBron Jameses and Caremlo Anthonys of the world I’d be content giving more minutes to James Johnson.

I agree with playing James Johnson, but between him, Demar,  and Jonas on the floor, there isn’t much spacing. It was the big issue as to why Casey had him buried towards the end of the year and playoffs. Johnson didnt want to play the four and can’t keep defenses honest if hes playing the three

As a person from Toronto I can tell you one thing, Raptors make bad decisions. Year after year they draft these players based on potential, that just stay as that POTENTIAL. They drafted T Ross over Drummond, because according them Drummond was undersized at the draft measurements because he wore thick sole shoes and had some other red flags. T Ross was the guy anyone barely heard about, but Raptors act like they know something no one else knows about the draft. Drummond is a monster that continues to develop! Lets not speak about Araujo being drafted over Igoudala and others….

As a side note, Raptors dont have any real All Stars, they have some good players adn they play like a team, they dont have guys that can take over games whenever they need them to. I mean who runs the team? DeRozan or Lowry?

To be fair, all of those moves were made before Masai Ujiri became their GM. I’ve got a lot of faith in his ability to build a team.

He made a steal with Lou Williams and a few other nice moves, but time will tell.

He was not only able to get rid of Andrea Bargnani, but he somehow got the Knicks 2016 1st rounder for him!!!!!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if they go with a wing and throw the bank at Tristan Thompson. I know Uriji wants to bring in more Canadians to the team and Thompson’s stock is at an all-time high right now with Love out. Cleveland is going to have to let Love go if they want to re-sign Thompson and have a decent supporting cast.

I can never see Toronto ever being a title contender, unless they become basically an all international team. Tough to get guys to leave America

I can’t remember where I read it, but I remember seeing an opinion that Toronto missed that hard-nosed, no quick, sometimes irritating leader.

I think if they managed to ply West from Indiana he would have made a huge difference and I think they make more attempts at him this year. A guy like Tyson Chandler may not fit position-ally, but again he is a fantastic leader.

    C. Jonas/Nogueira
    PF. Johnson/Patterson
    SF. Ross/Johnson/Caboclo
    SG. Derozan/Williams
    PG. Lowry/Vasquez

This team has plenty of talent they just need someone to guide them, I don’t think a new coach would be out of the question either.

A guy like Paul Millsap would fit nicely and they might be able to pry him away from Atlanta if they can put together a big offer.  Its going to be tough for Atlanta to keep both Carroll and millsap this summer.

I agree that it would be nice to see Toronto take a serious run at either/ or both Paul Milsap and LaMarcus Aldrige (not likely but you have to try) in free agency. I think either (or both) would really make this team much more legitimate in the frontcourt. They should at least try to get them to come for a visit and make a competitive offer.

Aside from that, as a Canadian fan whom would like to see them get deeper into the playoffs I think with the current roster there shouldn’t be anyone that is completely untouchable. If they have an opportunity to make a big trade to upgrade the star power on the team (they need to make some inquiries at least) they need to do it. I agree that it would be nice to have at least one star player who is capable of making some big shots down the stretch and that the rest of the team can rally around. Not every team has this luxury but most of the serious title contenders have at least one.

I might look to re-sign Hansborough because he is a great hustle/ energy guy off of the bench but I would let Lou and Amir (they will want more money) go and focus on bigger needs this team has to address if they are going to make it past the first round of the playoffs.

The raptors need another center behind JV,and a defensive one. Is Nogeuira that bad to never see the court? He’s exactly what his team needs, they should look to involve him in the rotation more. And Bruno will have to play at some point as well. I think they could look at a point guard in the draftbehing Lowry.

They need to cut their losses and get rid of busT-Ross, ring OKC and see they will trade him for Lamb and McGary. Failing that, look at Justin Anderson or Vaughn with the draft pick. RHJ is just a younger, slightly worse version of James Johnson….
