This game is about to go into OT, and I have to say, this was one of the worst coached games I have ever seen, and one of the most mentally imbalanced game I’ve ever seen. Lowry, Beal, Wall, and BEAL again have all been the other teams MVP, as they’ve all played horrible. Beal looking like he’s a D-League player out there.

I also have to take a shot at the coaches. Casey had no clue what to do when the Wizards went small, and likewise Wittman drew up iso plays for Beal and Wall for the last 6 minutes of the 4th, not giving Paul Pierce a single play. Like mentioned above, the backcourt played horrible all game, and Pierce, who is known to kill the Raptors and was lights out this game, was told to just sit in the corner for the final minutes.

It’s created for an interesting game, but damn, this is some bad basketball!

Just terrible coaching by casey. No play calls, nothing. Just relying on contested threes the entire game. The fact that the raptors got it into OT is a miracle. That’s been the season for the raps though, live or die by the three…

on the other hand they have been killed on the boards. The only guy that rebounded well defensively all game was JV and he gets benched for the most part, while amir has given up so many crucial second chance pts. I know he has 18 pts or whatever but the amount of pts hes given up evens it out.

I would like to see JJ play next game too. Don’t know what the deal is there and how he plays zero minutes being the best defensive player on the team and in my mind the most efficient one on one player we have on the wing.

Just a toronto fan here being real.

I agree with playing Johnson. It made no sense to me that they would choose Hansbrough and Amir over him when the Wizards decided to play small ball against them when Johnson excells in that role, and would have provided them with a little more interior D.

Casey might make that adjustment, but at this point it might be too late. Losing game one at home is just deflating. Especially when the opponents two best players had the worst games of their career. I also think people need to cool it on the Val hype. He’s just not very good right now, and is really just a big body with some decent moves inside. He needs to learn defense, especially help D, and doesn’t box out at all. He could be what everyone thinks he can be, but he needs to put in a lot of work if the Raptors want any sort of credibility.

Good observation. I wanted to put some money on the Wizards just based on this fact. I had my suspicions about the Raptors struggling to guard small ball lineups. We’ll see if Casey makes adjustment, because the Wizards are going to do this really often.

Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like Casey’s coaching. Some points I have:

    – Pierce who plays the 3/4 and is a known Raptor killer starts getting hot, JJ who is our best defender and can play the 3/4 never leaves the bench.

-Neither team has shot blockers, but at least Washington goes to the hoop (lack of perimeter defense by Toronto). Toronto just shoots 3s and long 2s even though when they do go inside, they score.

-Size advantage. When Pierce is playing the 4 and is guarding Amir, why no post ups??

-JV doesn’t get enough play. He could score doe low against the Wizards as he has a height and athleticism advantage. Plus we’re getting out rebounded all day, might as well keep our 7 footer on the bench. Yeah, he can’t guard quick bigs the best, but the a Wizards trot out Gortat, Nene, Gooden, and Seraphin. Even when JV is in the game, they don’t run plays for him. All buckets were offensive rebounds. I saw more plays for Hansborough than Jonas. That ain’t right.

-DeRozan and Ross need to take Beal off the dribble all day. He can’t stay in front of them and doesn’t have the size to make up for it. Sadly, we use small lineups all the time and most of the wings guys are just set up to shoot. And the only play that gets called is the "Lou dribbles around while everybody stands around and shoots a deep 3" which you’ll see called over 5 times a game.

-Lastly, Casey just got out coached by one of the consensus worst coaches in the league. Good job.

And this isn’t just off this game, this has been the whole year. If we don’t hit more than 50% of our 3s, we are usually out of the game and that’s not right.

Casey lost this game twice. JV didn’t play in the 4th or OT. Wizards won on offensive rebounds. Amir Johnson was gased noticeably unable to fight for rebounds. Valanciunas stayed on the bench. The guards shot 19/53 for 36%. The bigs shot 16/29 for 55%. Casey needs to feed the bigs.

I’ve always been a supporter of Casey and his own development as a coach but the way he coached this game was terrible. He had no control of his teams emotions, strategy, or action and his own personal strategy was flawed. Washington also played terrible and got away with one on the road that neither team deserved.

what has casey developed as a coach though? Take this past year for an example, how has his offensive schemes improved? His defensive strategies are definitely not working anymore…so where is the improvement? He continues to fail in terms of player development with the way he manages JV.

I have been saying all year that if we fail to win the first round, it might be time to cut him loose. Yes he has taken us to the playoffs…but we play in the worst division in the league, i believe most coaches can do just as well with the same roster. with thibs possibly out, he is somebody that would really help the raptors with his ability to get the most of out everyone.

It’s shocking how little Casey trusts Valanciunas especially considering that they don’t have another center to plug in.

Let’s not forget to mention that Amir Johnson was horrible around the rim as well. Lou Williams was the flame that ignited the real push.

Bradley Beal doesn’t have that factor, Stephen A. spoke of on LeBron James prior to the first title he won with Miami. Beal must get that heart of a killer to be overly aggressive.

John Wall sold the team short in the clutch by pulling up for a mid-range jumper to send his team into overtime. This is an ongoing issue for him throughout his career. We all know that he wants to build up that confidence to win a game off the strength of a jumpshot, but in these situations, he must go with what he does best which is penetrate the lane; finish around the rim and or pass to a big on the block.

Back to the drawing board fellas! See you all for Game 2.

I remember when people actually put Beal in the same category as Klay Thompson and they weren’t considered insane.

    Those days are long gone.

I’m still awaiting Ben McLemore to rise to the occasion.
