There are gems that are found every year in the 2nd round. Rank these 2nd rounds in terms of strength.

2000- Michael Redd, Marco Jaric, Eddie House, Eduardo Najera, Brian Cardinal, Jason Hart

2001- Gilbert Arenas, Mehmet Okur, Brian Scalabrine, Earl Watson, Bobby Simmons, Loren Woods, Jarron Collins

2002- Carlos Boozer, Luis Scola, Roger Mason, Dan Gadzuric, Flip Murray, Matt Barnes, Darius Songaila, Rasual Butler

2003- Mo Williams, Jason Kapono, Luke Walton, Steve Blake, Willie Green, Zaza Pachulia, Keith Bogans, Matt Bonner, Kyle Korver, James Jones

2004- Trevor Ariza, Anderson Varejao, Chris Duhon, Royal Ivey

2005- Monta Ellis, Brandon Bass, CJ Miles, Ersan Illyasova, Ronny Turiaf, Von Wafer, Lou Williams, Andray Blatche, Ryan Gomes, Amir Johnon, Marcin Gortat

2006- Paul Millsap, Steve Novak, Craig Smith, Daniel Gibson, Leon Powe

2007- Marc Gasol, Carl Landry, Glen Davis, Josh McRoberts, Dominic McGuire, Aaron Gray, Ramon Sessions

2008- Deandre Jordan, Nikola Pekovic, Mario Chalmers, Omer Asik, Luc Richard Mbah A Moute, Sonny Weems, Goran Dragic, Bill Walker

2009- Marcus Thornton, Dante Cunningham, Dejuan Blair, Jon Brockman, Jonas Jerebko, Derrick Brown, Jodie Meeks, Chase Budinger, Danny Green, AJ Price, Lester Hudson

2010- Landry Fields, Devin Ebanks, Lance Stephenson, Jeremy Evans

    1. 2005. Best player: Monta Ellis. Great depth, solid players.

    2. 2001: Best player: Gilbert Arenas. Not much depth but the best player from 2nd round.

    3. 2009. Best player: Marcus Thornton. Great depth but no stars.

    4. 2002. Best player: Carlos Boozer. Not much depth but two really good players in Boozer and Scola.

    5. 2003. Best player: Mo Williams. Solid bunch, good depth.

    6. 2008. Best player: Deandre Jordan. Ok depth, no star.

    7. 2007. Best player: Marc Gasol. Very little depth, Gasol helps this year immensely.

    8. 2000. Best player: Michael Redd. No depth, only this high because of Redd.

    9. 2006. Best player: Paul Millsap. No depth.

    10. 2004. Best player: Trevor Ariza. Yuck.

    11. 2010. Best player: Landry Fields. Still have time to prove themselves, but as of now…Awful.

I think I counted 7 all stars, could be wrong. I feel a lot of people overlook the 2nd round, but as you can see there are many solid NBA vets taken in the 2nd. The 2nd round can be extremely beneficial if teams scout properly. Feel free to comment, or rank em.

I really can’t disagree with your rankings. 2005 is definitely atop my rankings because there’s a star in Monta Ellis but also really good depth with Gortat, Williams and Bass. 2010 needs to be last: just look at your players listed, you know it’s a pathetic 2nd round when the top players inclide the likes of Lance Stephenson and Devin Ebanks.

    @zachb757

Yeah that 2010 class is just awful. Literally was laughing when looking through 2010. Sh*t I had to include Jeremy Evans and he hasn’t done a damn thing but win a dunk contest.

2007 and 2005 are easily the best. I think I’d still take 05 though.

We have to give some time for the most recent classes…who knows? A star or two might pop up from amongst them in a couple years.

     Obviously 2005 is the best.

A mistake in your best player form 2004 Varejeao is a much better player than Trevor Ariza.

it’s always amazing to me how many productive college players that are obv NBA talent slip to the 2nd round or undrafted — Kentucky had many during the Tubby years, Chuck Hayes comes to mind…  there’s always crappy big men taken in 1st round while tweeners and other guys slip to 2nd or undrafted

But on this list, Glen Davis was a guy I knew would be a good pro, such great hands in college — and in the same year, 2007, how did they not want to take a 1st round chance on Gasol given his bloodlines …
