JoeWolf1Has everyone forgotten about this guy? He’s your typical undersized combo guard, but when people were watching UTEP to see Derrick Character they were pleasantly surprised by Culpeppers’ athleticism and scoring ability. UTEP is at 17-5 and leading the CUSA and Culpepper is dropping 20 a night (hitting over 30 twice).
Most of us know what his nitch will be in the NBA( bench scorer), but has he just been forgotten in these forums because not as many people watch UTEP as they did last year? or did people realize he’s not that good.
From what I’ve seen I think the guy can play, he may not get picked up in the draft ( although if UTEP has a good tourney run I could see him going 55-60) but I think Randy Culpepper is a guy who can play at the next level. Most combo guards like him lack one thing he has and that is fantastic athleticism. It may take the D-League to get him to the NBA, but I think it will happen.
What do you guys think?

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantHe might be the best athlete in college basketball, but he might be better off in Europe than the NBA. He is 6’0 and a 2-guard, it is a difficult combination to overcome especialy coming from a mid-major. Keydren Clark has done well oversees as a really small but talented combo guard.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantCulpepper never impressed me..There are alot of guys with skills simlar to his..And being undersized doesnt help..Coaches have adjusted their defenses and limited his affectiveness this season,by putting a taller defender on him..Culpepper is 1 of those players that goes overseas and come back to the nba after gaining confidence and adding 1 special skill that catches the eyes of a team…
I think a guard that’ll surprise alot of people is Norris Cole of Cleveland St.

B FreeParticipantIm watching the Cleveland State game now and Norris Cole looks really good. He isn’t scoring much but he looks like a true point gaurd. He demands so much attention that everyone else seems to be open.

scoutguruParticipantAll I know is he’ll make a good living playing basketball somewhere. And whether or not he’s even 6’0 is questionable. An amazing player, who’s had an amazing career.

Providencefriars15ParticipantThe problem is there are so many players who could be second round picks could could have very successful careers, throw in overseas guys and Culpepper is probably undrafted.

jeff416ParticipantI think somebody might take him in the second round. If he ever learns to play PG I could see him being a decent role player.

OhCanada-ParticipantUsually NBA teams seem to take gambles on players with high skill level, and explosive athletisism. I think he will be a 2nd round tester and D-League Allstar.
