    I know a guy who was slow as molasses at about age 14, when he turned 16 he got faster,quicker,when he hit about 18 it increased more, and now at 21 he has a 40 inch vert and is just about as explosive,quick,and fast as they come, he plays college ball as well.

    So im wondering when does your athleticism begin,peak,fade?

    Also what was dude taking. Something does not sound right there because most kids unless he starting really working out show some signs of their athletic ability. I have never seen someone just naturally go from real slow to real fast in a few years without working out or something. Was he really skinny or real fat before

    Early on it depends on when you hit puberty, testosterone helps build muscle and increases atheltic ability, if he didn’t reach his full height and maturation level until later it would make sense he’d get considerably more athletic. Also if he is playing college ball, he’s on a specific workout program to improve his fast twitch fibers and explosiveness. Personally I had about a 31” standing vert in high school and when I was around 20 it peaked at about 35”, I’m almost 28 now and its still around 31” (although I’m not on the same workout program I was when I was younger) but I’d say the peak is around 20-25 for explosiveness, but as you get older your muscles become denser, I’m considerably stronger than I was at any point in my life, this trend of strength continues to about 35 and then begins to decrease. Genetics play a factor too, but from my personal experience and what I’ve read about the subject those are the conclusions I’ve come to.

    We would need much more information on this individual to give a proper analysis.

    You can become a better jumper in a variety of ways. Growth. Body composition. Lose weight. Improve strength and conditioning. Improve jumping technique and efficiency. This guy could have done any number of things as he developed physically and as a ball player.

    I didn`t dunk untill my very late teens. I am 6ft1 with a 6ft4 inch wingspan. I did a variety of things to improve. Pistol squats and sprinting were the biggest exercises I focused on as well as eating right. I never measured my vert but at 22 I could stand under the rim and dunk 2 handed cleanly. It took everything I had in me to do it, aswell as a proper warm up, but I could do it.

    No weight lifting, none of that he’s 20 yrs old and I can tell you he’s never did any serious lifting(only weighs 160), I would love to give more detail but as hard as it is for yall to explain, its just as hard for me….

    He stopped growing at about 16 his wingspan is 6’6 and reach is 8’1 and he is 5’11 barefoot so 6’0.5 in shoes

    And he’s in college but he’s not on a big time program he’s only a JUCO player, but he will be D1 after next year, but even scouts(Various write ups) describe him as having big league(highest level) hops, first step,quickness, and elite open floor speed, one website went as far to compare him to a young Jason Terry…..its crazy

    We even ask him and all he do is shrug his shoulders and just say “Late-Bloomer” lol
