Public Apology to Danny Ferry
I just wanted to apologize for the unfair criticism I laid upon Danny Ferry on this site and others. In his first week on the job he's managed to move Marvin Williams (who never came close to perceived potential) for Devin Harris and he's managed to shed Joe Johnson's contract (which I thought would be untradable).
If Danny Ferry manages to get Dwight Howard and get him to re-sign along with Josh Smith then he will be a very loved man in Atlanta.
There’s no question that Thabeet can play the game of basketball. After all, we’re talking about one of college basketball’s most dominant centers from 2008-09. He averaged a respectable 13.6 points to go with his 10.8 rebounds as a junior, but it was primarily the 152 shots he blocked in his third year at UCONN that earned him the attention of the Memphis Grizzlies, who used the second overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft to acquire him.
They all had plenty of motivation. But what about Thabeet, who has an established reputation for simply not wanting to put in the work required to be an elite NBA player?4212312
If he can do that, the Thunder’s reputation for being a team that develops their way to a championship just might reach legendary proportions.e2121
The early season anointing has led to Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins issuing a reminder of the current Western Conference hierarchy last time he checked.32142143
“We are the Western Conference champs,” Perkins told Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman. “So at the end of the day, we’re not chasing nobody except for the ring. We’re chasing Miami to get a championship. It’s no guarantee who is going to be where. But we earned the Western champs so we’re not chasing the Lakers, we’re chasing a championship and that’s what it’s about.”r12123412142
Kobe Bryant confirmed an internet report that he is indeed retiring.
And he happily pointed out how good the Lakers seem to be and how much he truly enjoys playing with Steve Nash.
First, as far as starting his five-year countdown to enshrinement in basketball's Hall of Fame, it's definitely going to happen—just not in the near future.4rt3w43
The Celtics are still loaded with aging veterans, relying heavily on Garnett and Paul Pierce along with new additions Jason Terry and Jason Collins. But the leadership in the process of passing to 26-year-old point guard Rajon Rondo, and this year's crop of rookies could be the most productive since 2004, when Doc Rivers was himself in his first year with the team.
''I'm a big fan of veterans ... teaching some of the young guys on work ethics, earning what you get, not just riding off potential,'' Garnett said. ''I've always been a big fan of veterans'' doing that.
The Celtics returned this week from exhibitions in Milan and Istanbul and will meet the New York Knicks on Saturday night in Hartford, Conn. - their first practice game against NBA opponents.
“It was good playing with Tyler as a power forward and he was playing center,” Varejao said. “He is a smart player. He knows how to move around the basket. He knows if I am rolling, he has to replace me and if I am popping, he knows he has to roll and stuff like that.”
However, in the NBA it is often said that one team’s trash is another team’s treasure. Two days after he was released by the Spurs, New York Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald signed Novak off the waiver wire. It was Novak’s fifth NBA team since being selected in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft.]0-09
When Novak became a free agent this past summer, the Knicks organization was determined to keep him in NYC. The Knicks were able to exceed the salary cap to re-sign Novak only after a surprising court ruling that led to a settlement between the NBA and the players’ union, which gave players claimed off waivers their “Early Bird rights.”
Can the Miami HEAT repeat their championship quest from last season? Is this the final championship run for the aging Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs? Will Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks finally put all of their talent together and join the league’s elite? Can the new-look Los Angeles Lakers, now boasting Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, unseat the Oklahoma City Thunder as Western Conference champions? Is this the year the Minnesota Timberwolves reach the playoffs behind All-Star Kevin Love? Likewise, the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors are poised to make playoff runs of their own, but can they seal the deal? Are the Dallas Mavericks toast, or will their new group of hungry veterans surprise us all?
As for the starters, it seems evident that Tom Thibodeau is going to spread out offensive responsibilities and try to win games playing defense. Nothing new there, obviously, but the Bulls are a shell of their former selves without Derrick Rose. If they can hover around .500 until Rose gets back, they’ll be a nightmare first round match-up for somebody. Until the return, however, this isn’t going to be a particularly entertaining team to watch.
“It twisted and got kind of locked up a little, but it was more of a scare than anything,” Lucas said. “I felt a sharp pain, but it eventually went away and I wasn’t going to lie on the ground, so I saw if I could just walk it off. I never sit out. It’s not in me. It’s not in my DNA, so I am just going to fight through it. I am just banged up a little bit and I will be ready to go on Wednesday.”
“I think if I answer that question, it probably digs into the details more then I would like with respect to the negotiations themselves. What I can say, from my point of view, simply my point of view, I know we made several efforts to try and make this work and I think there is a point in every negotiation where you start to realize where things lie and and I feel like as an organization, we’ve made some tough decisions, this one was right up there with them. But as I said before, once you know the landscape, you have to look at everything and ultimately make the decision that you think is best for the franchise.”r3232
