Which team is going to blow your mind with a draft pick that no-one saw coming?

Feel free to include draft day trade scenarios or any other madness that turns the hype levels up to 11.

You’ll probably get negged as usual by conservative draftnet users who freak out at the slightest deviation from mainstream opinion…

but this thread is strictly for the shakers and movers who are willing to roll the dice.

boston trading the 3rd pick to philly for okafor.

    Philly Drafts either

    A) Simmons & Murray ( most likely situation)

    B) Ingram & Dunn ( least likely situation)

This is just crazy predraft talk though

Way too unrealistic. I don’t think it is possible for them to not fck up. We can probably expect them to take labissiere. I am surprised prospects still work out for the kings. The team keeps throwing the only player to not be a bust under the bus and blaming him and basically setting him up to fail. So even if you do play well, they will still get you not to mention the loss of endorsements by playing in sacramento.

Thon Maker is still towards the end of a lot of first round mocks or even early second round on a lot of major site mocks. But I still feel that someone is likely to take a flyer on him higher up the draft especiallyteams with multiple picks and he seems to have a lot of fans on here. So I could see him literally going anywhere in 11-35 range.

I think a lot will also depend on who Boston takes at 3 as the 3-10 range is fairly variable on a number of mocks.

As regards trades, we’ve discussed the Boston number 3 pick many times, I could possibly see the Pelicans doing something with their pick or even Toronto at 9.

My total wildcard idea is Toronto flip pick 9 for Dario Saric. Toronto get a proven Euro guy on a great rookie deal, Philly can look at other roster needs with 9th pick and clears a potential frontcourt jam. Toronto have had a lot of good Euro players over the years and Saric gets onto a contending team too.

Brett Brown has said Dario would go 3rd in this draft. They only trade Dario if it csn land them Murray, Hield or Dunn.

I also think Thon could go as high as 10 to the Bucks

Celtics send 16, 23, 31, and a future second round pick for 8. You know the Kings will do something weird and I see Boston moving up to grab Brown or Chriss here.

Kay Felder gets drafted ahead of Tyler Ulis.

Rade Zagorac gets drafted ahead of teammate Timothe Luwawu.

This one I think might actually happen. Dragan Bender falls to the Toronto Raptors. I think he is slipping and teams believe he is a project. Im no expert but from what Ive read and watched it seems Poetl and Chriss have passed him. So that’s 2. Ingram and Simmons is 4. Murray, Hield, Dunn and Brown is 8. That leaves Bender at 9. He may even slip further.

Furkan Korkmaz may pull out of the draft tommorow. He apparently wants a promise in the 1st round but hasn’t gotten one due to the fluidity of this draft.

Malik Beasley could fall to the 2nd round. There are very true reports that he has a rod in his leg, not suspicions.

     Derrick Jones actually gets drafted!

That’s all I can think of right now, but I’ll be back!

Im likely the least knowlegable person on this site as far as team needs but here goes:

Sixers trade pick with Boston because they want Buddy Hield ( a la Webber and Penny trade ).

Brice Johnson falls to second round.

Malachi Richadrson get picked before Kris Dunn.

    Boom.

I think Brice Johnson is going to fall to the secound round as well.

Also Wade Baldwin goes in the lottery.

Jaylen Brown drops out of top 10.

I had Marquese Chriss as a top ten player months ago and most people told me that they thought he would stick around for sophomore season or go near the end of round 1. But at this point I guess Chris at #5 to Minny wouldn’t be a shocker anymore, another site has him going #3.

Bender I feel is likely to go to one of Boston, Suns or T-Wolves at 3 to 5. I think a couple of these teams may well take a big.

If Saric did come into play then there could well be a lot of interest between the teams at 3 to 9 in the draft. It would be interesting to see what sort of offer Philly would want for him. I put the 9th pick up as an increase on where he was drafted in 2014 but feel 3rd pick mightr be a bit too much for him. It would be interesting if one out of Murray, Hield or Dunn were still on board at 6 or 7 if Philly might dangle Saric.

Brook Lopez is another player I could see perhaps being in play if Brooklyn wanted to get some picks but Boston would be most likely suitors which would cause issues

He was only drafted 3 positions later and that was because he wanted to play for Anodolu Efes before transitioning to the NBA. In that weak draft he probably would have been in play 1st overall and may have been picked there instead of Anthony Bennett.

As much as I would want the Raptors to acquire Saric its not gonna happen. Bryan Colengelo has openly stated he is trying to trade picks not acquire them and that he wants Saric on the roster. Ujiri is flying all over the world scouting because he can’t trade the 9th pick for any established player.

Saric is the exact type of forward the Raptors need starting at PF. He can shoot, dribble, attack closeouts, pass, covers alot of ground defensively and can rebound. He would be a great fit from an age, work ethic, and mentality perspective for the team going forward as opposed to a guy like Millsap who will be entering his declining years and won’t be as much alright to being a fourth option and contribute more in other ways. Sort of like Igoudala did for GSW.

    TRADES:

Chicago assuming Gar/pax are safe pull this trade off:Bulls go full rebuild and Suns bring in their Sun lol

    Bulls give up: Jimmy B

    for

One of Brandon Knight or Eric Bledsoe(depending who they like better),4th pick and 13th pick

Reasons both sides do this Suns get their star player in Jimmy B who can go back to his natural SF position and the Bulls get their fresh start with a solid vet to ease the proces for the guy they got to replace Thibs(who doesn’t seem like he is the right coach for Jimmy)..This move also send Jimmy out west rather than keeping in the EC.

Thibs makes his first big splash(probably won’t happen but would be funny if it did)…Lakers move back to get more value:

Lakers give up Number: 2 pick(which wolves use for Ingram)

    for

T-wolves give up: Shabazz M,Number 5 pick in this years draft and a top 4 protected pick in next years draft (so 5 and back lakers get it in a deeper draft)…

Reasons both sides do it:Lakers aren’t sold on Ingram and want someone further back like Jaylen brown,Jamal murray,Skal L,Kriss Dunn,Dragen B or Buddy(take the player the want without reaching at no 2 and on a lower salary) and get an asset in a better draft+ Lakers apparently liked Shabazz at some point also…

The reason t-wolves give up a bit is because Thibs can afford to be patient with Ingram and make him their versatile 6th man they need that can add more shooting…They also now can start moving onto the competiting stage rather than rebuild stage so don’t need the pick next year…

Boston trade out of draft to get help where they need it…Memphis accepts they screwed up as Cononly walks in FA and clean house…..

Boston Gives up Marcus Smart, Number 3 pick, number 16 pick and number 23 pick

    For

    Memphis gives Boston: Marc gasol

Memphis do this because they realize that they need to clean house and start again…They get a new PG in Smart to replace Mike C(as he prob leaves) and draft the BPA at 3 and can either trade up with other picks(16,17 and 23) or draft to fill needs…

Reason Boston does this is they get their Center they have been trying for years to get but no one will give up  and gasols game doesn’t relie on athletism so should age fine(at least 4-5 years of quality play)

Assuming draft stays as is(none of above trades happen) the following reaches may happen..

Number 2: I could see Skal L or Kriss Dunn being reached for right here: Skal, he has that porzingas hype building and his range looks similar to past UK player who didn’t get to show everything in KAT.But it could just be that Workout hype which could trick people as season was streak

Kriss Dunn could somehow convince LA to reach and move Russell to the 2 and let Dunn set players plates due that John wall comparrison…

Number 3/4:I could see Boston/Phoenix either reaching with Marquese Chriss as they believe he will may be a Derrick favors type player but is actual tyrus thomas type or Bender as they believe he the next Porzingas but in reality is the next Jan vesely/Mirotic(like sites say)…

Number 5: A Big or Guard that may not be a big name but Thibs will some how surprise us all…Resulting in a steal/reach at the time lol..

Number 6: Pelicans taking someone like Brown who seem like a Wesley Johnson/Gerrald greene clone over a more suitable player..OR Dejounte Murray  who could put a jrue holiday on us..Low low first rounder(in late teens early 20’s pick) blows away teams away in workouts and  soars up the boards…

     – Malcom Brogdon goes 22nd to charlotte.

    -Thon Maker in the lottery.

-Boston & Minnesota make a trade that swaps the #3 & #5 with other pieces included. Minnesota selects Dunn.

    – Denzel Valentine will become the bust of the draft.

    1) Phoenix does SOMETHING. 2 lotto picks and an extra starting quality guard is a trade haven

    2) If Phoenix deals Knight, they draft Jamal Murray. Its a copycat league and that combo of Booker and Murray sounds like hell to deal with

Just an interesting tweet for Chris Forsberg about 2 hrs ago –

The Boston Celtics worked out both Buddy Hield and Marquese Chriss in California on Monday, a source told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. What’s more, Hield hit 85 out of 100 3-point attempts during a shooting drill, this after Jamal Murray — another top-of-the-draft candidate — generated buzz by making 79 out of 100 during his individual workout for the Celtics last week. Chriss (6) and Hield (7) are two highly ranked players on Chad Ford’s latest big board and both could draw consideration from the Celtics at No. 3.

Hield hitting 85 is impressive. I’m wondering whether Phoenix consider to pair him on the wing with Booker? If they then go down the path of moving a guard and/or picks for Okafor, that’d be the type of firepower to bring back some old skool play, slowing down to drop it low, Oak drawing doubles and kicking out to knock down shooters.

Its kind of weird that the Celtics have mentioned Murray and Hield shooting the lights out in private workouts amidst rumors that they’re shopping the pick for an All-Star vet…mighty fishy.

Thon Maker to the Magic(post skiles draft history).

Baldwin lotto(10-14, trade up or down).

Jamal Murray 4th, traded to the Nuggz.

    Bender outside the top 6.

I can see bolomboy getting into the first, some team could be intrigue by his athletic ability and raw talent, see him as Thomas Robinson type prospect, invest and take a flyer on him…

     My guesses:

-Thon Maker goes lottery (10-14 range)

-Wade Baldwin goes lottery (10-14 range)

    -Marquess Chriss goes to 5

-Jaylen Brown falls out of top 10

-Sixers end up with 3 picks in the top 10
