Rumours are circulating on EPSN that Charlotte Hornets have made all their starters available for trades and are actively shopping their best player Kemba Walker to try and get a good return back if they can package him with another of their higher paid guys.

The availability for Kemba would interest a number of teams especially as his salary is $12 million for the rest of this season and next. A player at his level would likely be on at least double that if he was a FA. But with a number of teams havimng already got young PGs, a number of prospects like Young and Sexton in this year’s potential draft, Ish Thomas being an FA this summer would a team give up a lot of assets for Kemba I wonder?

Interestingly the Cavs have been mentioned by Charlotte would likely want Nets pick and would Cavs be in a position to take on any other big contracts?

The Cavs may have interest in D12 as he would only be under contract until 2019 but would Hornets take back Tristram Thompson who has two years after this year at a combined $36 million?

The Cavs could do IT and some combo of Crowder, Frye,Zizic, Nets pick for Kemba straight up but if Charlotte want to move more cap then maybe MKG or Marvin Williams for Shumpert’s shorter deal as well?

There are a number of teams in rebuild who would take on cap but they’d want assets and if Charlotte did too then Cavs couldn’t really do deal.

Walker is of course from the Bronx so the  Knicks could appeal to him. Frank N night appeal to Charlotte and the Knicks for once own their picks so could do a deal.

Clippers could be a real dark horse, they possibly want a PG upgrade and LA might really appeal to Kemba and have pick due from Houston so have immediate assets to add to any trade. Plus they have Gallinari sidelined on $20 million a year. Gallo’s deal isn’t good but the large base salary could be used in any trade to send longer contracts to Clippers. Someone like Zeller, so Charlotte could work it to reduce cap.

Also if DeAndre Jordan may well move in FA, might Clippers have some interest in D12 in a mega deal and Hornets get DeAndre’s expiring deal. This would only be if Clippers felt DeAndre was not likely to resign with them.

Spurs are another team mentioned, they don’t have huge assets outside their untouchables but have some guys stashed, own their picks so could put a deal together.

The Hornets putting Kemba into play might be a shot but if they feel he could well walk as a FA in summer 2019 or a max deal would stretch the cap too far, they maybe are considering cashing in on him whilst his stock is high.

    1. Trade Walker, Batum, and Williams to the Jazz for Favors, Johnson, Rubio, Exum, and Hood.
    2. Release Favors and Johnson.
    3. Give the ball to Exum, Hood, and Monk to see what they can do.
    4. Tank the rest of the season and hope to get Bamba, Ayton, or Bagley. Doncic and Porter would be good too.
    5. Buy out Howard in the off-season — he has no trade value.
    6. 2018-2019 core is Monk-Exum-Hood-Kaminsky-2018 Pick-MKG-Zeller-Lamb
    7. Enjoy the 2018-2019 season below the cap. Be ready and willing to take on a bad contract to get an asset.
    8. Draft in the lottery in 2019
    9. Make big offers to Klay Thompson or Tobias Harris in the summer of 2019.
    10. Make the playoffs and compete in 2019-2020.

It is about time they did this.  I am not a Charlotte fan, but feel bad for those who are.  They have had exactly one exciting player in the last decade.  Trade that guy for a chance for a little hope and excitement.

Detroit, you should do the same.

Worst place to be is fringe playoff pergatory withouth players who have enough upside to move out of that.

Drummond, who is probably one of the most athletic big men in the NBA, can pass, is the best rebounder, over one offseason dramatically increased his shooting percentages, and is an elite lob target doesn’t have any more upside? Reggie can still be 2015-16 Reggie, an All-Star caliber PG. Tobias is already a good No. 2 scorer and still young. Kennard’s looking solid out there. Stanley Johnson is already an elite defender and athlete who can still be a good player if he learns how to shoot. There’s no upside in this group?

Tobias Harris is the only one potentially with more in him, but I think he and Drummond are about as good as they get.  This is the improved version of Drummond. Kennard peaks at just an average role player at best. Reggie Jackson an all star calibre PG? Again?! Please.

If Cleveland aren’t clear title favorites with Love and IT as their #2 and #3, there’s no way Detroit can get over the hump with Dre and Tobias as their 2 and 3. Don’t forget the Cavs also have the world’s best player as their 1.

You need to blow it up and make a squad where Drummond and Harris are your 3rd and 4th best players. Reggie Jackson was on the bench in OKC, a team with Russ and KD and they still couldn’t win. No way he’s the answer to anything.

Charlotte went were having the worse season in NBA history in 2011-12 and were 21-61 the following year so to go into rebuild again so soon would seem strange. Since then they have been 43, 36, 48 and 33 wins so have been yo-yoing between the play offs and late lottery. They are only 3 wins off 8th seed, so seem to be in no man’s land again.

With so many teams in rebuild, it may not be easy for them to blow things up too.

So it will be interesting to see what they do going forward.

They have had a number of high draft picks in recent years but haven’t been lucky or smart enough to get that really top level player apart from Kemba.

It would be a real shame if the Hornets actually trade Kemba or if they are really shopping him to get rid of one of the bad contracts they have on the team. Kemba really game a long way and while he might not be superstar material, he clearly is operating on a very high level and should be an All Star to me this year. Aside from that, many believe he really loves being with the Hornets and how many players liked being there actually? Let’s sum up what a mess of contracts this team assembled recently:

Nicolas Batum (four years, $100 million), Dwight Howard (two years, $47 million), Marvin Williams (three years, $42 million) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (three years, $39 million), Cody Zeller inked a 4 year, $ 56 million last summer. The 12 million Kemba makes this and next season is actually great value and while I see that there might me a real possibility of shipping out one of the above mentioned horrific contracts, this doesn’t help them at all going forward imo.

Bringing in talented but not well shooting guy like Frank N. over from New York doesn’t help at all I think and I really don‘t see how the Cavs would want to play both IT and Walker and for sure they don’t trade IT. To be honest I don’t see any reasonable deals at all unless someone like Phoenix or the Sixers absorb some of this giant long term contracts and that won’t come cheap and the Hornets might give away picks instead of trying to get some.

So this is what I would do if I was the Hornets GM:

The first thing you need to do is decide you are rebuilding none of this maybe we can turn it around this team is to similar to the one with Jackson and Wallace that was a first round and out. There is no clear cut star where you go, get them some pieces and we will win it all..

Tank for a top 5 pick in this years draft. Trade all the talent away except maybe Kemba and one other player-My choice would be MKG as he is on a cheap deal. As they could at least be good bench players when all is done.

Trade Battum,Cody(if not kept),Marvin Dwight,Jermey Lamb for any expiring deals you can get or reasonable deals that might bring a first round of  some sort  pick back with them.

The sort of Deals I could see happening:

Dwight for Tristan,Frye and the Cav’s pick(should at least be 25-30 range).

Battum for Tyson Chadler and Jared dudley + the 2018 Miami pick this works for both sides the suns get a vet who can teach Jackson the ropes to be a good pro and the hornets get two shorter deals and pick to help speed up the rebuild(which is only top 8 protected).

Marvin williams for any cap relief you can get.

Frank Kaminsky-Boy do I bet they wished they Had picked Booker like was hoping they were going to do..Oh well I just wouldn’t resign him come RFA or unless he signs a super cheap deal.

Cody Zeller-All depends on what you do with him keep him or move on from him.

Malik Monk….I would give him at least one more season to see if he improves anymore, before I attach him to a player that I have to move ..But as I have said from day 1 he is a scorer/chucker not much else due to height limitations…

For the most part I agree with what you’re saying, but Kemba is 27 with 1 more season left on his contract after this.

What you are saying is put a 28/29 year old All-Star player with a bunch of 19-21 year olds who will take some a few years to develop by which time he will be in his 30’s. I think he would understand that if he wants to win that Charlotte would no longer being the place for him. If he simply wants to be a life long Hornet and get paid over the summer then sweet, but unless they some how turn it around in the next month the most value he will have in a trade is as of right now. He is on a very cheap contract and teams will believe that he will improve their roster as well as have an opportunity to hold onto him.

Their willingness to let go of Kemba makes me believe that they are gunning for either Trae Young or Collin Sexton

Come next year their core could be very interesting

    PG – Trae/Sexton, SG – Monk, Lamb,  SF – MKG, Bacon, PF – Kaminsky, C – Zeller

Then the next year (I imagine they’ll be in the lotto still) they have a few options they can turn to

Picking Zion in the late top 10 could give their franchise some excitement

The Hornets have enough talent to make the second round of playoffs. They are only 4/5 games out of the playoffs….

Walker is gritty and plays through injuries. Michael Jordan really likes him. I didn’t want to believe it but it looks true, like they are trying to shop him

    http://www.espn.com.au/nba/story/_/id/22152521/charlotte-hornets-open-trading-kemba-walker.

$12 mill for this season and next.

Who wins on Kemba for Fultz ? Philly can contend sooner rather than later…
