Too much teams have fallen in love with the potential of players when it comes to the draft, therefore we have a ton of guys that might not necessarily be NBA ready players right now. Which decent/okay player has the best potential to become good(maybe even great) and what good player has the potential to become great?

Anthony Randolph is going to be my pick to become a good player in this league. He has all the tools to become great, but I dont think he will ever reach it with the warriors. and I really think Al Horford can be a fantastic player down the road. He is a good player now but I think in 3 years he will be considered one of the best big men.

Yeah but look at a team like Indiana who has only selected players that were NBA ready, where are they?

I think Randolph has the highest potential and i can see him becoming an all star in like two years. People forget it took O’neal like 5 years before he broke out. Al Hoford should be nice and I can also see his fellow gator Noah who has improved a lot this year adding more offense and being a more pivotal player. I also think Speights if he can stay working hard will be better than both of them. If the Sixers can trade Brand for a better fit like maybe Jamison who has range and can play more of the perimeter give Washington the banger they need they could be pretty good.

festar35 you make a good point, the key is to have players that are ready now and players on the rise. My pick would be Demar DeRozan he is someone who with the right B-Ball I.Q. could be a star.

fans(esspecially on here) also fall in love with potential…basically to a fan if you are tall and can jump and dunk then youre considered to have alot of potential. but if youre tall and not that athletic then youre considered to have limited potential..alot of peopel ignore how skilled a player is and are blinded with just how athletic the player is. which is understandable to a point because you cant teach something liek that but you can teach someone to get better skill wise. its really hard to try to figure out whos gonna add skill to there physical abilites and who isnt. as far as youre comment fester you are right the pacers arent doing that well but thats pretty much the norm when you pick in the lotto and most of the teams that picked off potential are out of the playoffs at this point just like the pacers are. plus its different when youre picking late in the lotto compared top early. im pretty sure if they had the first 5 picks they would not have been trying to get tyler

I hate that word… Guys like Kwame, Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry all have potentials but sad to say they seem to have it eternally… It’s good to see guys like Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum living up to their potential because they seem to be a product of hardwork right now… I think DeAndre Jordan has the tools of being a solid player like a raw Dwight Howard but I don’t see him being great…

The NBA is about athleticism right now. Look at a player like Dwight Howard. People complained about him having no offensive game, but the man averaged over 20 points last season.

This is why people go nuts over a player with athleticism over a player with only skills and no athleticism… Especially a young player with athleticism. 19-20 years old… 6′ 11″ 235-240 lbs… 7+ foot wingspan and standing reach. 35-40 inch vertical… Runs the floor like a deer. You go nuts over that because that’s a player who could dominate this game.

its really a crap shoot..for every one of those like d.howard though there are 3 or four stromile swifts and dan gadzurics. the best big men are the ones who end up having skills( garnett duncan, lopez, bynum, zach randolph, lamarcus aldrige, bosh, bogut, mark, paul gasol, kahman etc)..other then howard and amare i dont see any other big men who do alot with just athletisim
