Michael Porter had another back surgery.  Hopefully he gets well.

According to his Camp it was a ‘Breakthrough", surgery. And he will play this season.

Porter and those around him also went through the pre-draft process saying he never felt better and was 100 percent for the first time in a long time. It would be nice if this surgery is a breakthrough for him, but at this point it is probably best to wait-and-see. The positive aspect of Denver drafting him is that they don’t need him right now. They are going to be a good but not great team in 2018-19 with or without him. For them to move on up in future years, they will have to hope their lottery ticket cashes.

I had a feeling there was more to it than his past back injury, just no team let it out this was why…Hence the slip in the draft

The good old he actually may need legit rookie season ending surgery…I expect him to be a red shirt rookie if anything…See Joel embiid’s rookie year to how I see this playing out. I wouldn’t be surprised if he even missed two seasons to be fair.

But heres hoping he balls out when he is back as that would be awesome to see the Nuggets get a legit talent when they need it the most.

Back surgery and problems at his age are a massive concern. I don’t now too many players with bad backs that have a long and successful careers

I was somewhat surprised, but I was happy to see the 76ers passed. Especially when the reports were saying Porter’s back was much worse than originally feared. The 76ers have enough key players with injury concerns.

I was also surprised, the redshirt formula they’ve been doing has been successful, a couple years from now that line-up with MPJ would of been  nasty!

B/c the Sixers have a great deal of experience managing these types of situation where a young Blue chip Draft prospect misses significant time b/c of injury

And they manage these sitautions Very well. Nerlens Noel is 100% healthy (he’s a head case though lol), Joel Embiid & Ben Simmons are healthy are outstanding.

Fultz was a very unique situation & they never pressured the kid, basically told him you tell us when you are ready & by the end of the season he was playing & looked very good.

So if any team in the Draft was equipped to deal w/ MPJ it was Phila & from all indications Porter was never seriously considered by Phila’s front office / scouting

Which makes me wonder if Porter has a Very serious situation that scared alot of teams off, including Phila & that is Not good.

Philly when they drafted the guys mentioned above were in rebuild but are now a play off team so might have been loathe to wait a while for MPJ. When the Clippers with the two picks passed on him, I guessed there must be serious doubts about his bacck.

There has been talk that Denver are prepared to sit him for a year if needs be. Plus he may now have been seen by top specialist. If Denver are investing money in him they’d want to get him right and this surgery could be cutting edge stuff, so hopefully they get him sorted.

But he may well need to be a guy who has his minutes and game recovery time managed at least in the next couple of years. Having dropped down the draft may benefit him if this is the case as there will be less pressure to play him than if he’d been a top 5 say pick.
