I was thinking after the trade deadline that there are a lot of players I feel bad for. Wondering if you guys felt the same way. I am aware they all make millions, so I’m disregarding that.

Nene – Went from a playoff team to the dumbest team in the NBA. Enough said.

LaMarcus Aldridge – Looked like he was leading one of the hottest break out teams in the NBA, but they stopped winning, and now future looks uncertain. Still a beast though.

Joe Johnson – Obviously hard to feel bad for the richest man in the NBA, but the front office refuses to make moves to help the team, and its frustrating to watch Joe make the right decision 95% of the time, but watch the rest of the Hawks make the wrong decision all the time. Wasting his prime in mediocrity.

Tayshaun Prince – He has to be wondering what happened to that Pistons team that nobody wanted to play. Savvy vet on a dumb team.

Kyrie – Read a stat that said he his teammates have the lowest shooting precentage on would be assists from him of any point guard in the league. Future’s bright, but the present sucks.

Steve Nash – The obvious one. He doesn’t want to leave the team and style that he helped build, but his title hopes look bleak because of that. I have no idea what that front office’s goals are, because to me they don’t look like they want to win or make money. It’s going to be hard to win when your second best player is either Marcin Gortat or Grant Hill.

Thoughts? Any other players that belong on this list?

agreed, but Joe Johnson doesn’t belong on this list. How can you feel sorry for a borderline all star who makes the max? The average sports fan probably doesn’t even know who Joe Johnson is and he’s one of the richest people in the world. It’s ironic you call him a poor player. Horford, Teague and Smith is more talent than the 3 guys I’m about to list have.

I would add Deron Williams, John Wall and Kevin Love

I don’t feel bad for Kyrie Irving.  He’s a rookie and was the #1 pick in the draft.  It’s pretty rare for a #1 pick to get on a good team with above average teammates.  He’s going to be the building block on that team and they’ll only improve as the years pass.

Nene – Feel bad for him in the short-term, but Washington probably has a better chance of winning a title before he retires than Denver did; he can mentor younger guys and be on a team on the way up now that they’ve cleared the majority of the knuckleheads, and he gets to play with a PG like Wall.

LaMarcus Aldridge – I think the reason the Blazers stopped winning is because the novelty of being the superstar wore off for Aldridge and his passive mentality kicked back in, he is an amazingly talented player, but he doesn’t have that aggressive competitiveness to be the first option. Hard to feel bad for him because they have two lottery picks and still a very deep team around him which could bounce back into playoff contention next season if they draft well. I would have felt worse if they had stood pat, because the Portland roster as it stood had peaked.

Joe Johnson – No sympathy here.

Tayshaun Prince – He re-signed willingly, again, no sympathy.

    Kyrie – what TOL23 said.

Steve Nash – Nash does get a bit of sympathy from me, but at the same time, it’s not as if he’s in his prime, he won two MVPs and has to just accept that fact he won’t win a ring, if every vet started ring-chasing the whole system would collapse, and sometimes it’s better to go out with dignity than pull a Karl Malone and join a championship team only to lose.

I feel bad for Carmelo Anthony once known as the best scorer in the leage and an elite player now known as a selfish teammate, volume shooter and also being written off of Team USA before the summer even hits

New York media accomplished their goal

I feel bad for John Wall. He is going to be in a LeBron James type of situation.

I disagree about John Wall being in the same situation as Lebron; Lebron came in and lifted his team’s record immediately so the Cavaliers didn’t have high enough draft picks to find him a proper running mate. The Wizards will have had two top 5-ish picks since Wall after this draft to find him some young talent to give him hope.

Lebron was guilty of being too good too quickly in a city where free agents weren’t likely to sign. Rose was in a similar situation because he came to a team filled with decent role players already but Chicago is a major market, so people will flock to him. The Lebron backlash wasn’t so much because he left, it was because he left to join Wade and Bosh. If he’d gone to the Clippers to team up with Blake and Eric Gordon I think the move would have been viewed a lot differently outside of Ohio (Cleveland fans would obviously still hate him for leaving his home state).

With the amount of draft picks the Wizards have had, if Wall doesn’t have a legitimate running mate by the time his rookie deal expires then he’ll have every right to leave because the franchise will have dropped the ball. That said, the new owner seems to have a good head on his shoulders as evidenced by his recent trades and his history of building through the draft in other sports.

Best case scenario Wall is another Durant; a player who is happy to stick around in an unpopular location because he has great teammates.

Do I have to go in depth with everything I post on the forum?

I am referring to once his Rookie contract is up with the Wizards. This will make or break his confidence as a player/person/citizen of Washington, D.C.

Nene – 2 of their 3 major dummies left the team as he came in. He can make their team better – no sympathy, just get on your job.

LA – As the new leader of the Blazers he’s been slipping lately. Last 5 games he’s averaging 17.6 on 44% shooting along with 7.0 rebounds. I don’t know if hes not healthy but after the improvement he’s shown in the last 2 years I would expect better when his team really needs him.

JJ – Only reason I would feel bad for Joe is the same reason I do for all the Hawks – the loss of Al Horford. But sh1t happens. The rest of the Hawks do not make the wrong decision all the time.

Prince – He is not on a dumb team imo. They’re doing ok as they look to be set at PG & Centre for years to come. He also didn’t have to resign and could have started the season shooting the ball better.

Kyrie – What TOL23 said. He was the number one pick in the draft. So he’s obviously coming to a bad team…so what? No sympathy. Same goes for Wall.

Nash – He seems happy in Phoenix and Phoenix seem happy with having him until his last days. Lots of respect but no sympathy.

I can’t just disregard the fact that they make millions to play sport on the biggest stage in the world. Along with the fact there are many talented guys who don’t play in the league for one reason or another. The only guys I could feel sorry for are people with bad luck with injuries like Greg Oden, TJ Ford, Brandon Roy etc

@Cheyenne; I’m not thick, I realise you meant when his rookie contract was up.

Instead of being defensive because someone disagrees with you on a thread you started, perhaps you should take time to read what they have said closely before responding.

I was saying that not every first overall pick is in the same situation as Lebron James or would be viewed in the same way if he left, his situation is a lot more similar to that of Kevin Durant, or even Kevin Garnett for that matter.

Chauncey Billups for tearing his achilles at the age of 35

Dajuan Wagner who’s career got ended short due to health problems

TJ Ford who’s career was cut short and never amounted to what it was supposed to because of his spinal injuries

Those are the type of guys I feel sorry for, not guys healthy making millions and being prima donnas.

I feel bad for Shaun Livingston and especially for Grant Hill who at the time was one of the nbas elite talents who was on his way to a hall of fame career before he just got destroyed by the injury bug in 4 of his 5 next seasons he failed to play more than 29 games. It is really sad as he is a class act and there isnt a player in the league i have more respect for. Also i would love nothing more than for him to retire with a ring but on this bad phoenix team it looks like thats not going to happen.
