FastAndFuriousParticipantWat in the hell is going on!!!!???
Rondo
Westbrook
Rose
Rubio
Irving
Williams
Nash
And now Eric Bledsoe tears his meniscus
Does the NBA need to shorten the season or what?
This is a serious problem

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWell there’s no need for the league to shorten the season, that’s an overreaction.
This is just a coincidence.
But this is what happens to players that take constant contact night-in and night-out. When you look at that list of players, these are the same players that are quick and athletic and take hits every time they drive to the hoop.

Toronto16ParticipantIt’s this new generation of scoring point guards. They drive a lot to the basket and are getting knocked down by behemoths who are 50 to 60 pounds heavier than them. The constant pounding on their body takes a toll.
As for Nash, dude is 47 years old what do you expect?

r377ParticipantIt is an absolute shame for some of these young stars to be injured. As a fan, we have been robbed not being able to see Rose’s career contiune with all the highlights. Same with Penny, Grant Hill, Oden etc
82 games is HEAPS, add on playoffs and some players could be playing close to 100 games for the season.
Most leagues around the world only play on average 20-25 games for the season.

FastAndFuriousParticipantMan you tripping by saying the league shortening its season is an overeaction! Ha! Are you serious? Have you ever played ball?
Man I remember when playing 30 college games and traveling all over me and some teammates would be happy the season was over more so from a resting our bodies stand point.
These guys play double that and they travel waaaayyy more than college players, these guys can play at home Monday, play in Utah Tuesday and travel to New York and play again two days later, and doing thay multiple times.
Do you understand how much wear and tear that is on the body? The NBA Season is too long, yes very entertaining but too long then some of these guys play in the playoffs not to mention some guys play 35-40 Mpg!
You obviously never played ball if you truely believe they shouldnt shorten the season.
Why do you think these guys stretch and warm up for literally HOURS before games and then go sit in a tub full of ice for HOURS after games? Because your body isnt really made for all that wear and tear, if it was there would be no reason to stretch, sit in coldtubs, etc.
Sorry for the mini rant but if you played college ball and played alot you would understand somewhat what these guys go through.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYes, I have played ball. Making your entire point moot.
And yes, it is an overexaggeration. These guys are paid millions of dollars for this job and have been for the better part of a century.
One injury ridden season does not over rule what has happened for the last 70-80 years.
It’s more-so the new style of driving/scoring/athletic point guards that weigh under 200lbs getting knocked down and pushed around by guys that weigh 250lbs+ rather than the schedule, which has been around for several decades.

FastAndFuriousParticipantJust because your paid millions of dollars doesn’t mean your invincible your still human, Im not going to go back and forth with someone who’s never played ball, because if you truely did you would understand where Im coming from.
Your response was they get paid millions lmao wtf does that mean!!???

FastAndFuriousParticipantNBA is the only league that plays that many games, euroleague only plays about half of that man you dont know what your talking about at all lol

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI never mentioned the Euroleague. The NBA has been around for about 70-80 years.
Again, I have played basketball but if you choose to ignore that and continue your charade, that’s fine.
And my argument wasn’t that they get paid millions of dollars, my argument is that for several decades, the NBA has not had an issue with playing this many games or minutes, it is just one season in which players are getting injured (of one particular play-style, I might add). It is purely coincidence but if you choose to ignore that part of my statement as well, it’s fine.
We shouldn’t be looking at the minutes or games played but rather the new style of point guards.
Now, don’t get upset or misquote me again, please.

FastAndFuriousParticipantOk you win, you dont understand the wear and tear because you havent played at a high level its studies that prove Basketball has the second most injuries right after football far as proffesional sports go. Too many games being played period.

ChewyParticipantI remeber a while back Shane Battier came out with a theory/proposition to the NBA. He said that to keep the conferences the same and still have teams play their conference opponents more than opponents from the other conference, the schedule needs to be at least 66 games. Shane is a smart guy, so I trust him…
NBA won’t change it because they make money. I recently paid and watched a D-Rose-less Bulls vs a Barnani and DeRozen-less Raptors play each other. I still enjoyed watching it, but clearly the level of the game was inferior with those players out and I still paid full price for it. Millions of people are like me every year and they see games where stars are sitting out (old spurs) or injured.

CrossyboyParticipantWhy ask the question if you’re not prepared to hear different answers?
There are clearly more injuries this season. Those injuries are much more prevalent amongst Point Guards, most likely because of the strain they’re putting on their bodies and the hits they’re taking.
Dealing with this is partly a question of player management. If you want your players to stay healthy, manage their minutes, give them the occasional night off.
Would a shorter schedule help? Obviously. I’ve felt for a while that 2 games against each team in the league (58) , plus an extra home/away match against your conference rivals (8) for a total of 66 games would be the best way to go. TOL’s stated that the league’s been like this for 70+ years. Actually, back in 1946/47 they were playing 60 games.

NYK2010ParticipantRondo ACL from last year he’s just taking time to recover and that makes sense.
Westbrook not sure if there is a problem but 3 surgeries is not good
Rose sorry but he’s got bad knees and thats his whole game, cutting, driving. Another knee injury and we’re talking about a role player.
Rubio another ACL injury I think
Irving seems injury prone but hopefully nothing serious
Williams even when healthy he’s not the same player he was in Utah
Nash father time catching up
And now Eric Bledsoe tears his meniscus not sure how that happened.
You left off Felton, Prigioni, Beverly, Steve Blake and others too I bet.
Does the NBA need to shorten the season or what?
They should shorten the season but that doesn’t mean it needs to be 60 games but get rid of all these stretches of 4 games in 5 nights its crazy. How about 72 games this way you can get rid of 3-4 back to backs for each team and end the season earlier too.
However because of money they won’t.
Also they should have an offseason program for the vets so guys don’t come back out of shape and playing ball after so long catches up to you.
They have summer league for rookies but what are vets doing esp. ones that don’t make the playoffs doing from middle or end of April till Sept.
You saw it with the Knicks last season they got together in the offseason practiced and worked out. The results were 18-5 start to the season and ended up winning over 50 games, imagine if they didn’t have injuries to Sheed, Camby, Amare & others.
