Please Stop with the Derrick Rose is a top 5 player Nonsense?

As i comment on some post i see other peoples comments about how Derrick Rose is in the top 5 players in the league. Or that he is the top point gaurd in the league. I need someone to please explain to me just how the hell he gets to that position. Can somebody honestly argue that he is BETTER than Dwayne Wade, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, or Amare Stoudemire? Remember that when you say hes top 5 that means you are talking about all positions. And dont give me any of that crap about stats. Look into to them. If you are going to say hey he averages 20 sumthin pts a game look at how many shots he takes to get there. Im not knocking him because yes he has to score for his team to be succesful. But lets not act like if You take someone like deron williams and give him the reigns to a team like that he wont do the same. I know im probably gonna get bashed and get points taken away(which is prob th egayest thing about this site when it comes to some of you who dont like opinions) but i dont care because i know there is somebody out there who feels what im saying.

I'm a Bulls fan and I agree

I'm a Bulls fan and I agree with you, he's had a great year and really broken out as a top level player IMO, but he hasn't proven enough nor has he advanced past the first round of the playoffs. He has a lot to prove to be a top 5 player, but he's on the right track.

Agreed, He cannot even be a top five player if he is the third best point guard in the league behind Williams and Paul.

top ten in no order: Lebron, Wade, Kobe, D Will, Paul, Amare, Dirk, Durant, Melo, Dwight Howard

^ Maybe I missed someone, but I'm just trying to make a point that Rose is not even top ten.....

Your right

Im one of Derrick Rose's biggest fans but I know he is not a top 5 player yet..... Its just if you watch this kid play you will fall in love with his game and his potential is still no where reached. The argument I would make is if you could start a roster today and could choose any player for your franchise I would put D-rose in the top 5 in that category. Your completely right Rose probably gets a little too much attention but I just believe thats because he has a ton of fans on this message board.

With all that being said, I still think Rose is the MVP of the league right now, probably wont last the whole season but what Rose is doing right now but more importantly what the bulls are doing right now is something that hasnt been done since jordan. Rose carried the Boozerless bulls to a positive west coast roadtrip against the best teams in the west and now the Bulls have won 13 of the last 15 games. All of this is being done with almost 0 production out of the SG position, Keith bogans is the worst starter in the NBA if you ask me. Also without Noah as soon as Boozer came back.

Derrick Rose is not a top 5 player yet. but from the words of Derrick Rose why cant he be? This kid is putting up a hell of a season and if the bulls keep rolling full steam and get Noah back Rose could be the MVP of the league. So is it really that bad to argue he is a top 5? He certainly is close if you ask me, but I agree with you he is getting more love on these boards while some other deserving players havent

Rose is definitely good

Rose is definitely good enough for people to feel he is a top ten player...I feel he is...Not better than kobe wade deron Lebron...but those are my only clear cut people...Everything else is up for debate...Yea i see dirk numbers but he is so soft and amare hasnt averaged 10 rpg in none of his nba seasons...Cp3 is a monster but I personally like the height of deron and derrick better...He is definitely arguably a top 5...Jump shot can continue to improve tho

He might not be top 5 player yet...but he is def my pick for mvp so far...his team record speaks for itself...and thats with their team not at full strength...having your 2nd or third player injured and ur team still having one of its best seasons in a while...please credit when credit is due...

Who cares? Everyone's

Who cares? Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Somebody says D Rose is a top 5 player and you don't agree. That's fine! Why all the outrage though, it's not like anybody said Brian Cardinal is one of the 50 Greatest Players of All Time. Geez! Chillax peeps!

We should all know by now, when you name a top 5 or top 10 you're opening pandora's box!

Drose is one of the top five

Drose is one of the top five players now. the reason is of that he is playing better overall basketball than most guy like cp3or kobe. i know that those guys are really good players bute compare the record chicagó bulls have with the hornet or laker even the bulls are etheir better or are pretty close. Drose is the reason for that winning record 21-10. the mvp or top five players in the nba is about the player who is having the best season and playing for are team which is playing very well(bulls) and Drose especially with boozer injuired ate the start of the season and later noah. makes him the player that is doing the most with least. because that every game teams hangover him. while kobe has pau, lebron has dwade and bosh which spacees the defendsiv floor.Drose has deng and boozer and noah. bute deng and noah are not scoring threats and boozer has played well bute their starting 2 guard is bogan. so derrick faces a double or even a triple defenders.

Some people might say

Some people might say Amare,Nash,Bosh or Blake are top 5 players..But once you actually rank them with other players they fall short of the top 5..

Everyone will admit Rose's among the top 5 MVP candidates..But not many people will say he's a top 5 player yet...Once he starts playing better on defense, there will not be any doubt he can be the best point guard in the league..For someone with great athlete skills and quick hands, his defense is poor...

Right now i think Rose's a top 10 player..But as i said, his poor defense is keeping him from being a top 5 player..He has everything else it takes to be top 5...

No IknoBall12. Sit back,

No IknoBall12. Sit back, watch him, and enjoy. When Derrick Rose's team is playing close to .700 ball while starting Keith Bogans and Kurt Thomas, the man deserves all the praise he gets. He is top five because there aren't five other players who can win with what he has to work with. He has not had a very good supporting cast when one considers Noah got hurt right after Boozer got back, and the Bulls playing at an elite level despite it. The on court, not on paper, team he has been winning with is less talented than that Wade had before this year and than Kobe had in 2006 and 2007.

Look at his team, as BTPH

Look at his team, as BTPH stated, its pretty obvious.

The his best teammates have been:

1. Noah/Boozer (not really ever together)

2. Luol Deng

and then who? They have no supporting cast, a horrible bench, and yet they are sitting at 22-10. They have been better than every team in the East minus Miami and Boston (2 absolutely loaded teams) all because of Derrick Rose. Stop looking at him as a Point Guard, and start looking at him as a basketball player. He isnt conventional, because, there has never been anyone like him. Theres no use in comparing him to Williams, CP3, or Rondo. Those guys dont go half the things he does, they are all very different from D Rose. D Rose takes games over night in and night out, and thats what should be valued more than anything. I challenge anyone to make a reasonable argument, replacing Rose with any NBA player not named Lebron or Kobe and argue how that team would be anywhere near 22-10. And dont forget, through 25 games they had played the hardest schedule in the NBA.

Rose is a monster, probably the third best PG behind Paul and Deron. He's not a top 5 player, but he's definitely top 15 and arguably top 10.

if i was starting a team

if i was starting a team today, i would take paul first and rose second among pg's but would feel great about either of them.

as for top 5 player today for rose, i think its darn close. I put kobe, wade, lebron, dwight, and paul ahead of him. But he might be next after them. Certainly close.

Rose and Paul are playing

Rose and Paul are playing different kinds of point guard, and its absolutely bananas that Williams gets dismissed like its nothing... (when the Jazz are deep in the playoffs, people will change their minds.. again) But what seperates Rose for me from a franchise player stand point, is his rapid improvement, age, and ideal NBA body. The dude is a prototype.

As for the top 5 argument...

As for the top 5 argument... It comes down do you think hes more impactful than Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

I think Wade, Kobe, and Lebron have proven to be at that legendary level...

But given Durant, Rose, and its looking like Griffin's dominance... we could have our next decade long megastars.

The Clippers should be doing EVERYTHING in their power to make the team better.

I'd take Paul and Dwill. And

I'd take Paul and Dwill.

And his weakness is still defense which continues to put him behind Dwill and Cp3

And the bulls have a better team then the hornets. Dont just look at individuals look at the TEAM. Boozer is A AllStar.

Rose is currently the MOST

Rose is currently the MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. He is not a efficient player. Also without Boozer Chicago was 9-6 not so bad but just mediocre considering he had Noah playing along him (underrated player). But yeah everyone here is so impressed because he can score 25 pts a game that dont even take notice that he is 7th in assists in the league under Felton and just 0.2 assists a game over a rookie PG. Defensively he is not even top 50 in steals. While other elite PG like Paul, Rondo and Westbrook are top5 even Wall is 6th in the league. People should star opening their eye and looking deeper than just the points category.

9-6 is way better then mediocre.....

Please when you make a comments like this please make good points. The chicago bulls were 9-6 without Boozer and during this stretch You could argue no other team in the league faced a harder schedule then the bulls so far. Their Westcoast roadtrip they take it every year against the best teams in the West and every year since Jordan the bulls have never came out at .500 from that road trip. For the Bulls to make it 9-6 with the HARDEST schedule in the NBA. The bulls as of right now have the easiest schedule remaining in the league based on their oppenents winning percentage and that is because the begining of the bulls schedule was so brutal. And This is the chicago bulls, not the Boston Celtics you might have your expectations too high if you think that record isnt a great accomplishment for the bulls.

As for effeciency he is pretty damn efficient. The only drawback is he doesnt throw his body at defenders like Westbrook and draw the foul instead wraps his body around defenders to make the shot. Just because he doesnt draw a lot of fouls doesnt make his shots not efficient.

And steals is one of the most overrated stats its not an indicator of how good a defender is so stop using it as one. Sure it is definately a nice boost to your defence but ill take a defender like Shane Battier over someone who just gets a bunch of steals.

With that being said, Rose is in the top 50 in steals, even though I feel like the stat is pretty overrated.

This kind of stuff frightens me about people. Nothing you said was really a good point.

How is he not efficient? He scores at 45% and takes 20 shots a night. And he makes 39% of his 3's, and he takes 4 of them a night. He scores with tremendous efficiency actually. And going 9-6 without Boozer isn't bad at all, and Joakim Noah is a role player. A good one, but not one that is capable of carrying a real load offensively without being set up within 5 feet of the basket in most cases. The Bulls with most other PG's would've had a losing record in that stretch, so that point is moot. He's 7th in assists, but the Bulls don't have a bunch of guys who are really capable of scoring at a high level. I think he's doing an awesome job setting guys up and playing unselfish, and he always has for the most part. Just because he's not getting 10 apg doesn't mean he's not a true PG, like some people say. He's also not as bad on D as people like to make him out to be. He's not elite, but he's certainly not worse than average. He's a top PG in the NBA, plain and simple. Nothing about him is overrated. The Bulls would be a lost cause without him.

I think they are good enough

I think they are good enough in the east to be a fringe playoff team. The Team defense is good, Deng can put up 20 plus, Bozzer can put up 24 and 10 plus, Noah can Put up up 15 and 10, Taj can put up 10 and 6 off the bench. thats no slap at Rose but the Bulls are a very good team. This isn't the Cavs without LeBron if rose is gone

I VERY seriously doubt the

I VERY seriously doubt the Bulls would be a playoff team without Derrick Rose. Like, I'd be super surprised. This is a team that starts Kurt Thomas and Keith Bogans. Nobody on their team besides Rose is a shot creator either. They defend, but they'd probably be doing EXACTLY how the Bobcats are doing. In fact, without Rose they are essentially the same team as the Bobcats.

And Luol Deng would be left

And Luol Deng would be left with C.J. Watson to try to set him up. Luol Deng contributes in two ways offensively: moving without the ball, and stand still shooting. Without a point guard, he is going to get lost. Ronnie Brewer, another guy heavily reliant on moving without the ball to get points, was a much different player when in Memphis because he didn't have Deron Williams. Even when he got back to health, he fell out of the Grizz rotation. Do I have to mention that Kyle Korver needs a point guard to get him the ball?

How would that team without Derrick Rose be any kind of competitive? And with him, they are a top three team in the East.

@ BTPH and Knicksboy, urbanovrerverything

I do sit back and watch his games. And for you to say look at his supporting cast the argument u are basically proving what i said before about him not being top 5. Remember deron williams' teams the last few years. think about it. You are basically saying rose has the same team derons been having for years! and dont try and say o but deron has kirilenko and mehmet okur. First off Okur gets hurt every postseason, kirilenko hasnt been anywhere close to being near his all star form he was at the prior years, and ronnie brewer and kyle korver was also on those teams with deron. U know the difference tho? Deron made his teammates better and took them deep in the playoffs despite having the same medicocre team. argument over.....

Haha, horrible argument

Haha, horrible argument iknoball

Just because they have Boozer, Korver, and Brewer doesnt make them remotely similar to the Jazz. AK47, Okur, and the rest of that supporting cast was better than Luol Deng and CJ Watson.

You still didnt state how the Bulls are a top 3 team in the east right now (The Jazz were never a top 3 team in the west)

They have never played with both there 2nd and 3rd best player (not counting 5 games where boozer was lost) and yet they are still right there.

He does everything for his team, scores, creates, wins games. Theres nothing overrated about him. Overrated are guys rotting a way on the T Wolves and getting recognition for losing.

Are you missing the fact that

Are you missing the fact that the Bulls are 22-10 despite injuries and a mediocre cast, and that achievement is largely due to the way in which Derrick Rose is playing and getting more out his teammates than anyone could have imagined? I have never had a bad word to say about Deron Williams, and both are great. The difference is that Rose is the better athlete and has gotten to the top of the league quicker than Williams.

WRONG!!!! You didn't watch. If you did, you realize Rose had no talent last year and had Del Negro, who doesn't run plays. Rose improved his shooting, his defense and he's a better passer. Deron Williams had bad talent? Okur, Boozer and AK47 were terrible? Price, Fisher, Brewer and company didn't fill a role? Rose JUST got talent around him. What does it say we never considered Williams as a MVP with the same talent around him. Rose is a MVP top guy now with the same pieces.

Come on man. Like I said: WATCH the games.

Lets not underrate the Bulls

Lets not underrate the Bulls talent they have on their team. They have two perennial all-stars in Boozer and Rose, two fringe ones in Deng and Noah and and some solid role players that have performed well on playoff teams in Korver, Brewer and Thomas. I would take Deng, Noah and Boozer over any player on Cleveland... BTW there is no way in hell they would not acquire/sign a better point guard than C.J. Watson if Rose was not on their team....

The scary part is that they are going to have some nice money to throw around next summer at some free agents. They might even try to get rid of Deng by the trade deadline if they can find a team who bites, like maybe the Mavericks. Their core is Rose, Boozer and Noah whereas everyone else is expendable.

Joakim Noah would have little value on a team without an elite PG or other elite players on their team. He'd basically be a skinnier present day Anderson Varejao. And what free agent PG would be good enough to make them a playoff team? Who would they trade to get a capable replacement for him? Deng? Taj Gibson? JAMES JOHNSON? Luol Deng needs shots created for him to have success, he's not a guy who can get his own shot at a high level. Neither one of them are "fringe All-Stars" without Derrick Rose. Both are 3rd/4th option (Deng) or 5th option (Noah) role players.

Luol Deng is now a fringe all

Luol Deng is now a fringe all star.

I learn something new every day.

Come on....the Bulls supporting cast is weak. If Noah and Boozer were both healthy all week, then they would have a solid top 3. But with there injuries, compiled with the Bogans/Korver/Brewer trifecta at shooting guard, this team hasnt had great players at all, and are winning at about a 69% clip.
