Adidas was going to send payments to 3 potential one and done players in order to get them to schools sponsored by Adidas. 3 out of the top 100 doesn’t sound like an epidemic to me.

I’m sure more players were involved with the NBA agents than with Adidas.

My point was top recruits wouldn’t turn down Self, Calipari, Coach K, Izzo ect just because that school wore a different shoe. And for 97 players out of the top 100 I would of been correct in that point. 

Or are you saying that Nike is doing it too? If you are calling that Duke is paying Bagley through Nike money and you are right, Then I would be very impressed with your foresight.

This is only the three that got caught. Trust me, there’s is certainly more and definitely not just with Adidas. Although, I do think Adidas and Under Armour have to go harder with the shadiness since Nike dominates the market so much.

But it’s not that top recruits turn down HOF coaches so much as it is they get stirred towards the schools to the point where thats the only coach they may have a connection with. The shoe company limit the market of choice to these young naive kids.

 I believe Under Armour was running a pretty clean circuits, lots of the AAU programs they have under the name are very "by the book" programs.. For instance in my homestate of Illinois, The Wolves (UA) vs Meanstreets, Mac Irving Fire or back when the Illinois Warriors had real juice.. is night and day on how they approach running a program.. 

Pro quid Pro is a prerequisite in dealing with some of these Chicago AAU teams, The Wolves never gave me that impression ever or any other UA program.

 On a real NOTE. Its sad. Me growing up in The Seattle/Tacoma area Coach Pitino had a Pipeline in the area with Terrence Williams and Peyton Siva being the most Notable. Other than Coach K, Pitino and Bill Self there isn’t a coach I would play for if I somehow didn’t Commit to Uw.

It is Funny How Lorenzo Romar who recruited well, Developed players well and Got Good, Well rounded, Young Prospects to The NBA. The right Way! Playing the recruiting game Through Trust and Being a father figure amongst all. Gets fired after 15 years. And you got Coaching staff basically selling a Young Prospects Soul for Money.

 Weird month for sports!

NFL and NCAA basketball may not be everybody’s cup of tea but they are YUGE!

No one day is bigger than Super Bowl Sunday (at least in sports)!

No month(ish) is better than March Madness!

Is it time we bring in COMPETITION to the major sports leagues?  Even college?

Do we need semi-pro basketball?

Bring back the ABA?

Bring back the UNITED STATES FOOTBALL LEAGUE?  Well, I bought the domain name at least!  Gonna try to sell T shirts! LOL

Hopefully, sports figures it out.  NFL might need competition.  Either a real rah-rah "patriotism/nationalism" league or more of a "rogue league".  Maybe they can bring back the XFL.

I think the NBA is the top sports league now, well, at least it is headed up.  NFL is trending down even though their ratings are still the best (although nosediving).  

NHL is the sleeper here with attendance on par with the NBA.  If they can get some better TV deals then they will be BIG LEAGUE.

MLB is always solid.  I am sure the World Series is breaking TV ratings… they have some real video game type superstars now (Troutt, Judge).

MLB might go back to being the "default" Murican Sport.

NCAA football is good, probably a bit up, at least sideways.  Their BCS "final four" is about as good as you can get in college football (although I would like to see an 8 team playoff or a 10 team playoff).

MLS is a rising star.  Yep. Just need a TV deal there, too.  Pro wrestling has all it needs to take off — only if Vince McMahon/WWE can get out of its own way.  Vince might need to go back into the XFL and try to make sure a rival wrestling company enters the mainstream.

It’s not a good look for a sport to be on the downswing.  NFL is there now.  

College basketball is a borderline niche/gimmicky sport in the first place, with a handful of top teams/blue chip programs/franchises, mediocre ball/rules with the rest.  The uber-gimmicky March Madness/Final Four is the saving grace for college basketball.  Unbeatable.  Probably one of THE BEST sports brands in US history (other than the Super Bowl in my opinion.  Wrestlemania might be 3rd).  

There have been major scandals before in college basketball.  Huge betting involving teams like City College (that basically don’t exist anymore).  Players get paid.  Tarks’ Runnin Rebels, Mich’s Fab Five, and Coach Cal’s D Rose Tigers teams had vacated runs.  

This could be BIG — especially if the top "blue chip" guys this year sorta underperform, and if we maybe don’t get an EPIC Final Four/title game.  

Too many "chalk games" in the tourney too.  March Madness needs upsets, cinderralla teams, AND blue chip programs in the Final Four — hard to balance all of that.

College basketball will compete now with some great MLB teams who could make epic runs to the World Series, the NBA, the NFL and its 3 ring circus, as well as college football, plus MLS/NHL.

Hey, if you get something nutso like a college football "final four" of Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, AND USC, then that might be really, really, really big and the biggest story in college sports.  Penn State is good too, so you have some real blue bloods at the top.  … and with the NFL operating in Bizarro Land maybe some "football fans" will migrate over to college ball.

I have been looking forward to a Duke-Kentucky title game.  Maybe we get that.  Would be an awesome matchup! Or, maybe we get something a little less riveting like Michigan State vs. Arizona.  Or Florida/Texas or something where the ratings don’t go up.

College basketball needs a lot of things to work well.  Now, if they get rid of the one-and-done rule then college ball will basically lose a lot of its "superstar names" if not actual talent.  More randomness and parity might be good for an opening tourney weekend but it might be BAD for the sport overall.  

So, instead of Conference Championship Week, March Madness, and the Final Four putting college basketball into the conversation with the pro sports "big boys" (NBA/NFL/MLB) maybe it takes a semi-permanent back seat behind NBA/NFL/MLB, but also the NHL, as well as MLS, and, more than likely NCAA football.  That’s a different business model then.  One that is a lot less lucrative — and a lot less fun.

 There is too much money being generated by these players for them not to be paid by someone. Another idea would be for the NCAA and NBA to come together and develope some sort of junior club system like that have in Europe.

 FBI is cleaning it all up so investors can start investing into the AAU basketball brand, all of this will move basketball at the youth level towards how Soccer is branded at the Youth level.. heavy regulations etc etc

The same thing happened a million and one times in other entities.. Same thing in Vegas let the crooks build it up and make money and once it gets big enough you crack the whip and take a bigger cut.. You honestly think the FBI didn’t have any idea?! I knew for years this shit was going on its been going on since ive been 16.. I was watching these guys operate at a young age.

The strange thing about this is that although Louisville has always recruited well during pitino’s tenure, they aren’t exactly a school that has attracted and relied on getting the best of the best prospects. I don’t think he has had a one and done in his time there. His national title team and other final 4 squads we’re all teams that relied primarily on juniors and seniors that he developed. You kind of have to wonder if pitino’s lack of success in securing big name one and done type players is what ultimately led him to go the route he appeared to go (especially considering the rivalry with calipari and Kentucky).

 This is nothing new for Pitino. I sort of expected his name to pop up when you hear about these sort of scandals. But as stated above he usually gets away with writing a "playing dumb" letter out to the media but not this time.

I think Chris Mack would make for a good replacement. He guided Xavier to the Elite 8 last year, and is 187-91 there. He’s only 47 years old, and has been within a relatively close geographical proximity to Louisville. He’d bring some character to the program.

 Another good option might be Reece Gaines. He’s one of the best players in the history of the program, and is currently an assistant at Eastern Kentucky. He’s 36, so he’d bring some youth and energy, and would score points with Louisville’s fan base.
